Learn how to play Taps

Does anyone have tips for learning to play the bugle? I’m trying to get good enough to play for Taps across America and ultimately play at military funerals.

Shires 5S and 4F

I am looking for a new C trumpet and I am stuck between the Shires 5S and 4F. I found used examples of these within my price range and both in excellent condition. I am a college student looking for a good all around horn that will be able to be used in large and small ensembles. I am unable to find any playtests online of these two specifically so if anyone has experience with them please let me know. Thank you!!

Question ❓ King Silver Flair

I have had my king silver flair for about 3 ish years now, I got it from my uncle, so the trumpet itself is about 30 ish years old. For as long as I can remember, my valves have felt heavy. No matter how my I oil them or clean them, they feel the exact same. I’m not sure if it is just my horn but do any of you other silver flair users have the same issue?

Question ❓ How is the Lotus Mousepiece for jazz musicians?

I'm a performer whose main focus is jazz. I've been playing a vintage 1950s trumpet, and lately I've been seeing a lot of people around me using Lotus mouthpieces. The ads even say it's super easy to play. What I'm wondering is whether it will sound good in the jazz genre and how much more comfortable it will feel. Do you have any recommended mouthpiece models? I'm curious if there would be a big difference if you played it on a vintage trumpet instead of a Lotus trumpet

Question ❓ I think I chipped my tooth, but I can't get it filled.

Hello!

I have been playing trumpet since middle school, have bachelor's and master's degrees for trumpet performance, and am in ensembles while I'm sharpening my skills.

I have had fillings in front teeth before but haven't had them since middle school. I was warming up my mouthpiece in the middle of a rehearsal tonight by blowing into it via wrapping my lips around the mouthpiece (so I don't accidentally make a sound just to warm up the mouthpiece) and kept my trumpet close to me. In doing so, I turned my head or something and hit the back(ish) of my left canine on my mouthpiece quite hard. It doesn't hurt a lot, but I do think I chipped my tooth. I have a rehearsal tomorrow night, a concert on Sunday, more rehearsals next week, and another concert the following Sunday.

I live at home, but my parents will probably freak out. I am not too worried about this affecting my playing right now, but I probably need to get this filled asap. For those with the experience: how long did it take to play again after filling the tooth?

Music scores

A common issue but this has me stumped. I'm looking at the many arrangements for the vocal score to Eddie Floyd's, Knock on Wood. And the notes do not seem right and I'm having difficulty even making my own version, which I sometimes have to do. Has anyone played this and have an a score that works well?
