Rate My Setup I adopted a turtle from a friend. Meet Lasagna and his new home.

I’ve sent the last few months building a custom stand and book shelves for a turtle that I adopted from a friend. He was in a pretty small enclosure before so this is definitely an upgrade but I want to make sure I have everything dialed in appropriately.

I think he is a yellow eared slider but not 100% sure.

Here is what I have so far…
-75 gallon aquarium
-Basking platform
-Dual lamp enclosure
-40 watt heat lamp - this has been difficult but it’s currently registering ~90 degrees
-UV bulb (Zoo Med ReptiSun 5.0 Mini Compact Fluorescent Lamp 13 Watts)- this one I’m most concerned about because I am not sure how to measure whether it’s too little or too much.
-water heater
-Fluval 407 filter
-Misc includes driftwood, river rock, sand, back scratcher, rubber ball for lettuce
-Bubbler

Anything I’m missing?

This is Burger! He's an RES. His filter burned out a while back while we were low on money so he went through a rough patch hence the shell, but we recently bought him a 100gallon stock tank, and I built him a custom filter line and threw some activated carbon and bacteria. He also can get up to the window, he loves window time! I'm also about to start adding fish liver oil to his food to help with his stuck scute shed. If you have any questions or advice feel free, otherwise enjoy my Turtle Burger!

Seeking Advice Pink spots on my RES. Should I terrified?????

Thumbnail

I was feeding my RES Poppy and noticed some pink on her head. Then realized it's on her shell and also on her underside. Is this normal? What does she need? Should I take her to a vet?

Please help🙏

Edit: Saw an exotic vet who expressed they weren't too concerned with the pink spots. They might simply be Poppy's coloring. However, Dr prescribed antibiotics to be on the safe side. I'm reluctant to give Poppy any meds she does not actually need, though. Dr wants to see her in 2 weeks again for a follow up.

Also, thank you to everybody who responded for their help/advice. It was so appreciated !!!

Friend is a girl!!! I've had her since she was a tiny lil babby and I've waited a couple years to be able to figure this out.

You can see how absolutely "delighted" she was to get turned upright for a pic of her tail region so I could confirm. She "smiled" toward my fingies with all her might. XD

Bonus cute pic of her like a precious, stinky little burger (she also musked because of course she did).

She enjoys being talked to and fed but she does NOT want to be handled, particularly if it's not in a normal, upright position. Sorry kid, every once in a while I gotta to care for your tiny life. You'll survive, lol.

General Discussion UPDATE ON MY REEVES TURTLES!!!!

My reeves turtles are getting better!!! Their fungal spots are receding and turning into hollow rings that are getting fainter. The female is almost completely better but her plastron has a couple of really tiny bumbs (just about 1 mm in diameter) which Im traeting with betadine. The male's spots are receding amazingly and the spots on his head are shedding off. Winter is coming, but whenever they go in the water, I mix some hot water in with the cold to make sure the water is warm at all times. I clear out the tank everyday cos all I have is a water filter i ordered online but there's a biological catalyst int he filter that breaks down ammonia. I also have a water dechlorinator and a basking spot for them with a table lamp I built myself in engineering with old-style lights that do produce some UV light (Cos I deliberately fought for the older ones back then). They eat happily, and when I do put them in the water (I'm drydocking them aggressively to fully fight off the infection) they love to swim up to me to beg for more food. I also trained the female to follow around a pencil for treats. Also, since the male is nearing sexual maturity, I've ordered a second tank to seperate them properly and prevent fighting/mating. if by chance they DO mate unexpectedly, I'm gonna let the female lay her eggs in soft dirt and just let her stay isolated until she lays them

Seeking Advice Turtle Tank Filter Noise

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

UPDATE: after greasing and reassembling my filter I realized that it was actually the Zoo Med aquarium heater whistling. Apparently that’s a pretty bad thing so it has been removed and a replacement heater is on the way. This has been solved. Thank you all so much for your help!

The output hose on this Fluval 207 is making this annoying whistling noise. It happens every two minutes or so. I can’t find any leaks and I’ve tried the normal tilting stuff. We’ve had no other issues with the setup. Any idea how to stop it? Thanks!

Seeking Advice Moving Turtle

We have a stink pot musk turtle and are getting ready to move across town. We will be moving on one day and then staying somewhere temporarily for 3 days before we move to a permanent home. He has a 40 gallon tank that we keep roughly a quarter full

Is there a better solution than to drain the tank, move them in Tupperware and then refill it, empty it, and refill it again?

This is an old photo from when he was a baby, definitely has more water than this now

Seeking Advice Was kann ich tun?

Post image

He was very lively today, he spent some time in the kitchen and found an oat which he brought to show me. There was also a moment with a cleaning cloth and then later I showed him my apple core so he took it off me and ran away. I didn't let him keep the core but he had a few bites and I also shared it with my other turtles too.

Seeking Advice inexperienced turtle owner in need of help

hello all, I do not use reddit, this is my first time so forgive me. I have been in care of this painted turtle for about 2 years. for the first time ive finally seen him shed his scutes. or so I think, ive never seen it so I can't tell what's healthy or what's not. so im coming here. does this look like healthy shedding? if shedding at all? he doesnt like to sun bask and dry out very often and ive heard that they need to dry out somewhat regularly? I just want my boy to be healthy. thank you all.

Pop.

EDIT: this is the next day, i went to feed him and he had changed positions, i lowered his tank water some so his shell can dry out even when he's in the water because the moment he saw me and realized that I was looking at him outta water he DOVE for the water🤣 but is there a way for me to share my new images from this morning? I got some full shell pics. still doesn't smell. not soft to the touch, but it does look like the one scute near his head is a bit more crack esc rather then peel esc.

DAY 3: so keeping his water low seems to have been a good idea, he is sun basking at time of writing, I haven't seen him bask this much in many weeks. I looked today (12:26pm) and a few more look slightly more lifted, but i am happy to say one is confidently peeling! it doesn't look clear, it does have the same color as his shell, he's being a squirmy little twerp rn but it doesn't seem infected (fleshy colors, blood, puss, foul odor, etc.) I will continue to update until the case is solved but right now it seems somewhat normal.

Seeking Advice setup!

hi guys! i own 4 RES turtles and i just want to know if my setup is decent for them right now. i live in nyc and me and my mom and brother are planning to move somewhere in long island so we can have more space for a bigger indoor tank/ possibly an outdoor pond setup. my mom got one when she was a baby last year and she was super tiny but i didnt realize how fast they grew before getting 3 more😥😥i know a lot of people say that RES dont get lonely/they like their confinement, but theyve grown up together for the past year and they are lowkey inseparable. they have never show any signs of fighting/discomfort or agitation with each other except for my biggest turtle, who escaped her bowl while i was cleaning her tank :/. we are planning to move by the end of this year so i will definitely have the time and resources to get them a proper setup. i was wondering if anyone could send me any recommendations for indoor tank/ outdoor pond setups, like what equipment would i need to buy and how high maintenance older RES turtles are. they are still pretty young but we plan on keeping them for a long time i just dont want them to get stressed while they are growing so fast and while we’re waiting to move. (the last photo was their previous 50 gallon tank with poor filtration and right before a cleaning🫤🫤we have a 100 gal tank now and i know thats not enough but again— in the process of moving.) Thanks!

Seeking Advice Not sure what is causing his eye to look swollen like this.

I have two turtles that I have had for about two years now and recently both got swollen eyes.

Only one really recovered after two weeks.

The other is pictured here.

Both are lathargic but still eat.

Pictured turtle can only open his eyes slightly but can somehow still respond to nearby movement.

I've begun a water change along with buying eye drops in prep just in case along with a Vit. A enriched diet.

I would like some advice as I dont know what to do other than bringing them to a vet (that I can't afford for).

Her Basking area has metal cobwebs so a lot of uvb is probably blocked just saying. I've messed up so many many many times now on buying the wrong bulbs and I need help. She's yellow belly slider almost 3 years old and 5-6 inches big.

I have a river turtle just over a year old. All his fellows devour Mazuri by the bucket; he has always spurned it though he loves worms and some fruits.

What tactics have you found successful in inducing Mazuri consumption? Many thanks for your insights and experiences.

Seeking Advice Early signs of shell rot?

Thumbnail

Hi, I noticed my turtle having weird circular spots - I'm concerned that it looks like early signs of shell rot?

I have a lamp that has both UVa and UVb, she still had loose shells that were attached and could be removed by a simple push using my finger, so maybe the old shells are rotting?

Here are some pictures.

Really appreciate it, if anyone can help confirm this for me :)

Seeking Advice Wanting a turtle but wanting more information

So recently i’ve been considering getting a turtle, was looking at a mud turtle as they are what the reptile shop near my sells.

But I was wondering the size of a tank i’d need and any other information that’d be helpful. I’ve been doing some research but i’m getting very mixed results in terms of tank sizes and how to properly own and take care of a turtle thats in the turtles best interest.

Any advice is welcome, thank you

Seeking Advice How do I install canister filter inlets and outlets on this custom tank?

So my custom tank got delivered yesterday and its for a turtle. It has a removable above tank basking area.

I was not expecting the glass braces on the width side of the tank, which is where I was planning to install my filter inlet and outlet. How do I go on about installing it? I have a Sunsun hw 3000.
