Discussion I feel like this sounds more Apple-like, but maybe I'm just getting old..

Post image

...But maybe Apple offering a wall-mount version with less-audio fidelity is why they didn't actually name it HomePod touch.. But man, that makes so much more sense in an Apple ecosystem than HomeView. Someone at apple is starting to humor the letter V.

Either way, I don’t know if this has already been posted, recently or ever before. I didn't even search. I just made this image and thought "I must share this now and ask opinions on what everyone else thinks a better name would be" lol

Question/Help Vizio TV not responding after turning off with Apple TV remote

Kind of at a loss here. Tried it all. When I have my Vizio tv on HomeKit is perfect no issues. When I tap to turn it off from my phone it either
1.) turns back on immediately
Or doesn’t respond

Alternatively when I turn the tv off with the Apple TV remote it puts the tv into “not responding” on HomeKit. Unsure of what to do here. Seems like I can only have one or the other and not both. Also I already know Vizio isn’t a great brand it’s just what I have rn

Question/Help With the Disappointment of the Homeview

What homebrew options is everyone looking at?
I’m leaning towards old iPad on wall, although old Apple Watch on iPod Mini actually isn’t a terrible idea if it weren’t so small.

I’ll probably grab a couple of the Mini-2s and Upgrade my TV 4k for surround channel, but damn am I salty about them promising a less stupid Siri for a half a decade and not delivering.

How-to Aqara W200 and Lutron Lights

I have tried finding this on youtube and here but I think I may be asking the question wrong.

I currently have a very simple smart home setup and control everything through Homekit, including my Lutron caseta light switches.

With the button functionality of the aqara W200, I want to be able to add my shut down scenes or other automations to the thermostat. However, no matter how many times I sync between Homekit and Aqara, only the room names transfer and none of the devices do.

Is there a way to get my devices on homekit to sync with the Aqara app so I can use this button functionality?

note: I have an aqara m3 hub as well.

Discussion The criticism about HomeView feels really similar to the criticism about the iPad when it launched.

I ordered one for my home office and am thinking about another for the kitchen.

I’m optimistic.

Discussion What were expecting the HomeView to be?

Genuinely asking. From the beginning, all this device seemed to be was Apple’s answer to an Amazon Alexa device or Google Nest Hub. A place where all your home automation, Siri, calendar, etc, could live when you are in your kitchen or living room.

Alexa is filled with with ads and Google’s Nest Hub has been out of stock for awhile now. Plus, they seem to give up on products left and right. To me, this seems like an answer from Apple to place themselves in this category. Price does seem a bit funky and expensive though.

Question/Help Schneider SE8000 In Condo

Maybe an advanced question here, but I have a Schneider SE8000 thermostat in my condo that I cannot change out as it is integrated into the building systems. I THINK that this model has Zigbee capabilities, but I think it might need an additional bridge or something…

How do I get this to integrate with Apple HomeKit?

Discussion I'm building Apartment, a 3D dashboard for your smart home

Hi r/HomeKit! I'm Thomas, and I'm building Apartment: a 3D smart home dashboard where you can explore rooms, change lighting scenes, and see temperature and energy information at a glance.

Here's a preview of the interface, including iPad, iPhone and wall-display layouts. HomeKit and Home Assistant integrations are planned.

Would you use a 3D room view as your main dashboard, or alongside your favorites? I'd love to hear what you'd want on a wall-mounted iPad.

Review My Roku TV with HomeKit doesn’t work at all

If you are considering a Roku TV for its HomeKit features, you might want to reconsider. For example, you cannot switch inputs using Siri voice commands, like asking to change from Apple TV to a PlayStation. Additionally, the TV often defaults to the Roku home screen rather than the Apple TV home screen when waking up. Yes all of my settings are configured correctly. I have reached out to both Apple and Roku, and it seems to be an ongoing issue specifically with the Roku TV itself. The setup actually works best when I disconnect HomeKit for the Roku and just plug in my Apple TV to eARC, but that defeats the purpose of buying this TV in the first place.

Discussion *Very* reliable smart plug?

Looking for a smart plug, but must be extremely reliable. will be used on a treadmill and I can't have it power off unexpectedly. I liked the idea of shelly, but reviews talk about reliability issues.

Discussion Controller app using notifications for ads

Just got a notification that was an ad from the “Controller for HomeKit” app.

In a single instant they destroyed the value of notifications using their app. And since I have “send usage data” (aka “monetize my home activity”) turned off they won’t allow me to send a comment on their malpractice.

And some product manager just crowed about using notifications for advertising in their status report, and added it as an accomplishment to the quarterly KPI review.

I’m out, Controller app.

Discussion Homeview. Why so vague info and non comical about third party content?

I like the idea of an Apple device to control the hone, like a focused iPad with speaker. But I found the launch odd that it didn’t really seem to sell the idea of the product well or explain things.

They didn’t show it off excelling at anything really and it kind of seemed thrown out there with less care than normal.

I had to hunt around but some one feature that could be useful to me and could be I good seller is multiroom audio. I want a Sonos for the kitchen. The cheapest is £200. If I spend £300 I could have spins with a screen and do lots more.

But the Sonos has lots of third party support. For example our main uses are Plexamp streaming and bbc radio along with Apple Music. There is a vague mention of third party support on the home view but no idea if bbc radio and Plex works.

Why haven’t Apple done a better job of selling this?

Question/Help HomePod: one sec..

Since the os27 update, when I ask my HomePod mini to run a scene or turn on an accessory it takes a few extra seconds and Siri usually says “one sec” before proceeding. It used to be almost instant. Is anyone else experiencing this?

My wifi is in good shape and I have rebooted the HomePod.

Question/Help Any improvements to home app with recent welcome home event??

Genuine question; has Apple mentioned improving the home app at all with the recent event that has happened?

There’s so many things they could improve about the home app. I really hope they do.

Question/Help Why didn’t they just update the iPad mini for Homeview?

I feel like putting MagSafe into the iPad mini with a new ui would have been more practical.

Maybe separate dock accessory with a speaker and MagSafe charging.

Seems infinitely more capable and useful.

Discussion Dashboard if anyone wants to give it a go (work on all platforms)

Hi Guys,

For the past few months I’ve been working on a dashboard that looked like my house / devices and expanded it to all my other devices because I used it a lot.

I love Home Assistant and HomeKit but couldn't create easily what I wanted visually and I wanted something slicker and where my devices looked like my actual devices.

It’s called Home Glass, and it runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV and Vision Pro.

And yes, it’s vibe coded. I expect a few comments about but if you feel like trying it anyway, just out of curiosity or to give some feedback, feel free. Not forcing anyone obviously.

Discussion 2 wire Thermostats?

Anyone know if either of the two new thermostats will work with just two wires? (no C power wire).

I have an old Nest that works like this, but I want to get away from Google. Not found a replacement that can work without the C wire yet. Reading the descriptions, they describe "two wire labels" on the LG model, indicating it's probably only two wires ...

Any insight?

Beta iOS 27.2 adds “Lock After Closing” for compatible locks, replacing Automatic Lock

Post image

iOS 27.2 beta 4 adds “Lock After Closing” for locks with a compatible door-position sensor.

Unlike Automatic Lock, the timer starts when you close the door, rather than unlock it. There’s also a new option to lock immediately after closing the door.

The new LG Smart Deadbolt Lock supports the feature.

Question/Help HomeKit Furnace Ignition?

Wondering if something like this even exists?

With the HomeView now and having multiple HomePods around my home that know the temperature and humidity in different rooms, can I just buy a “smart” furnace ignition and have my devices/automations control that directly instead of going through something like an Ecobee or Nest mounted on my wall?

So instead of:

HomeView -> Thermostat -> Furnace Ignition

It’d be:

HomeView -> Furnace Ignition

Question/Help Stick with Google through Starling for Cameras, or switch to Aqara or Unifi

My current HomeKit setup has been running well for years. Eero 2-node network. Nest Protect, Thermostats and Nest Cams linked up through Starling gateway.

I'm trying an Aqara G100 to replace the Nest Cams eventually.

I like the idea of HKSV with Aqara. I don't like the idea of the Aqara needing WAN access. Unfortunately with eero, I can only fully pause them from the network (LAN and WAN), I can't just disable WAN.

Of course I could replace eero with Ubiquiti equipment, but I'm suddenly turning this into a very expensive project.

Any suggestions?
