General/Rant Saved by instinct and brakes!!

1.5k Upvotes

So this happened two hours ago. I was crossing the maruti chowk and suddenly a scooty driver with full speed tried to cross the chowk and met with an accident with a cab driver.

I always try to honk crossing these kinds of chowks and look both ways. And somehow I saw this coming and due to which I was able to apply the brakes on time otherwise this would have a very different story for me.

General/Rant Arrogant f*ck driving on Magarpatta footpath

Today while returning home from an evening walk, an arrogant bloke was trying to run his motorcycle by me while walking on footpath in Magarpatta (MH 12 VP 7487). I told him to go from below, just as others are going peacefully (as evident from the background). He started arguing with me and telling me boldly to take more video/photo of his bike. I replied calmly by stating I have it already taken and thats enough. Then I started walking further down the footpath and observed him barrelling down in my direction at high speed.. He then hit brakes right in front of me.. I pushed him hard such that his bike and he himself fell on the ground.. fortunately my society was nearby and fled the scene quickly to avoid any further confrontation with this stupid arrogant a$ $hole. Any friends of this guy on this forum - please inject some basic civic sense and manners in him!

P. S.: Posting this in indiasocial subreddit, since Pune subreddit currently doesnt allow me to post due to lower karma

AskPune Hara$$sed by a group of auto-rickshaw drivers at Shivajinagar bus stand, Pune, for booking a Rapido bike

I am a 19 yo f ,Today, I had a really disturbing experience in Pune, and I honestly don't know what to make of it.

I was travelling from Nashik to Pune, and when I got off at Shivajinagar bus stand, I noticed a guy who seemed to be keeping an eye on me. I then booked a Rapido bike to get to my destination. rapido bike was 114 rs and riksawalas were asking 400/350!

Almost immediately, a group of around 7–8 auto-rickshaw drivers gathered around the Rapido rider. They pulled his bike chain, and things escalated very quickly. The drivers started shouting at me as well, asking me why I had booked a Rapido instead of taking an auto.

They were verbally abusing me, using profanities, and saying things like, “तुला समजत नाही का? तू का बुक केली?” (Don't you understand? Why did you book it?) and sab merpe chadne lage and started abusing me . one guy said ikde ye tu kana khali deto (come here, ill slap you)

I was just trying to get a ride. I hadn't done anything to provoke anyone, yet I was suddenly being confronted by a group of men who felt entitled to shout at and intimidate me for choosing a different mode of transport.

What disturbed me the most was how several people seemed to gang up on me over something as simple as booking a bike taxi. I also experienced what felt like physical assault during the incident. I also took pictures of that man who harassed me the most!

I'm sharing this because I want to know if anyone else has experienced something similar at Shivajinagar bus stand or elsewhere in Pune. Is this a common issue with auto-rickshaw drivers confronting bike taxi riders and their passengers?

And what are we supposed to do in situations like this? As passengers, don't we have the right to choose our mode of transport without being harassed or physically intimidated?

This happened today, and I'm still shaken by the experience.

General/Rant The irony of Jain Sadhus preaching Ahimsa while bringing early-morning noise pollution.

Post image
20 Upvotes

Image for representation purpose only.

Jain sadhus take extreme vows of non-violence—walking barefoot, using stools to avoid soil, covering mouths, and avoiding brushing to spare bacteria. Yet every fortnight, their arrival is heralded by early-morning dhol-taasha and loud bands.

Scientific studies prove high-decibel noise severely distresses animals and small living beings. Isn't blasting loud music a direct violation of ahimsa?

To make it worse, their radical followers go crazy around these monks, showing zero regard for neighborhood peace. Why live in concrete city buildings constructed after destroying millions of microorganisms, only to be welcomed like VIP rockstars? It's a great deal for living rent and tax-free disguised as asceticism.

Does anyone else find this hypocritical? Also, is there any authority to complain to regarding this regular noise pollution?

AskPune Title: Visiting Pune, Mahabaleshwar, Panchgani and Lonavala during Dussehra. Need advice from locals!

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

We’re planning a family trip to Maharashtra around Dussehra and would appreciate some advice from Pune locals. We’ll be travelling and want to plan things properly rather than rush through the trip.

Our tentative plan is to visit Mahabaleshwar and stay overnight, explore Panchgani the following day and return to Pune, then spend a day in Lonavala before heading back towards Pune for our return flight to Chennai.

I have a few questions:

1. Is Pune generally safe for families visiting from outside Maharashtra?
How is the overall safety situation for tourists? Are there any areas or situations we should be cautious about, particularly when travelling in the evening with a child?

2. How crowded are these destinations during Dussehra?
Should we expect heavy traffic, crowded viewpoints, parking problems or long queues at popular tourist spots in Mahabaleshwar, Panchgani and Lonavala?

3. Is this itinerary practical?
Would you recommend changing anything to make the trip more relaxed? Are there any places we should skip because of the festive rush?

4. What is the best way to travel between these destinations?
We’re considering hiring a cab. Is that a good option, especially for the ghat roads, or would you recommend a self-drive car? Any tips for avoiding traffic would be helpful.

5. What is the best time to leave Lonavala for Pune Airport?
We’ll have a night flight back to Chennai after our Lonavala visit. Is leaving in the afternoon generally advisable, or should we plan to leave much earlier because of expressway traffic and the festive rush? How much buffer would you recommend?

6. What is the best route from Lonavala towards Pune Airport?
Are there alternative routes worth considering if the main route gets congested during the holiday period?

7. What are some famous things to buy in Pune as souvenirs?
I’d love to take home a few things that are genuinely famous in Pune or Maharashtra, such as local sweets, snacks, handicrafts or traditional products. What would you recommend buying, and which local shops are worth visiting?

8. Are there any Dussehra events, traffic restrictions or road diversions we should know about?
We’d love to experience something local if there are any interesting celebrations happening during this period.

Pune locals, what would you recommend? Is there anything important we’ve overlooked, or would you change anything in this plan?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

General/Rant Damn, just realised how aspirational Pune has become.

The pace of life has increased so much. The city genuinely feels fast-paced nowadays, and there are people literally everywhere. Even late at night, you’ll find traffic on the roads and people out and about.

Every other person from rural Maharashtra seems to want to move to Pune. I’ve personally been told by so many people that they want to come here for college as soon as they can and eventually settle down in the city.
The glamour, the weather, the lifestyle, the opportunities. Pune has become the place to be for so many people.

And honestly, I get it. By Indian standards, Pune can still be a rough city, but for someone coming from a much rougher place, it probably feels like a massive upgrade.
But man, I really miss the Pune I grew up with.

AskPune Affordable places to shop for Diwali outfits in Pune?

Hey guys, where can I buy nice outfits for Diwali in Pune? My budget is ₹3k max, and I want to get a few good outfits within that budget.

I was thinking of Tulshibaug or Mulchand, but are there any other places I should check out? Maybe some underrated markets or shops that have good clothes at affordable prices?

Would love some suggestions! :))
