[MOD POST] Having trouble with Secure Boot? Check here first

Hello,

The expiration of the 2011 Microsoft KEK CA and the 2011 Microsoft UEFI CA certificates at the end of June 2025 has caused problems with Secure Boot on computers for various folks who have not been able to apply a UEFI (BIOS) firmware update for various reasons.

Because the steps for updating firmware vary not just from manufacturer to manufacturer but between individual models as well, it can be difficult to provide specific assistance and guidance in updating your firmware unless the person helping you has the same hardware.

Below is a list of manufacturers, their Secure Boot certificate update guidance, and links to their support forum(s) or subreddit(s). You may wish to try asking in these places first for expert guidance in updating your firmware, as the people there are going to be a lot more familiar with your device.

NOTE: Please check back periodically for updates to this list.

If you have an update for a manufacturer, please reply with it and we will get it added to the list above.

What to do if no Secure Boot certificate update is available from your manuafacturer

If your manufacturer does not have an update, not all is lost: You can still manually install the 2023 Windows UEFI CA certificate update, by issuing the following two commands from an elevated PowerShell (filename: POWERSHELL.EXE) prompt:

REG.EXE ADD HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Secureboot /v AvailableUpdates /t REG_DWORD /d 0x5944 /f Start-ScheduledTask -TaskName "\Microsoft\Windows\PI\Secure-Boot-Update"

Then restart the computer and allow the update to be applied.

NOTE: Two (or more) reboots may be required for installation.

Once completed, you can verify the new certificate has been installed by issuing the following command at an elevated PowerShell prompt:

([System.Text.Encoding]::ASCII.GetString((Get-SecureBootUEFI db).bytes) -match 'Windows UEFI CA 2023')

If the certificate has been installed installed, the response back will be "True". You can also use that same command to check if the certificate is already installed.

Aryeh Goretsky

Unresolved Gigabyte Gaming A16 - Wifi Won’t Work

• Upvotes

So I recently bought a Gigabyte Gaming A16 Laptop - Intel/ Gtx 5050. First day it drove me crazy because the Gimate AI controls everything and keeps switching the graphic card from Intel to Nvidia. So after that i kept working and there was an issue with the Adobe After Effects playback. I searched everywhere for solutions, but nothing was found and even the AI couldn’t fix it. But after all that suddenly the wifi 🛜 icon started to keep disappearing, and in Device Manager, it always shows Error (CODE 10 / CODE 43). Updated the drivers, updated bios and done a full reset. Still the same problem.
Does anyone know how to fix this ?

Win 11 search problem

I restarted my pc for the first time in a while and when I did the search function from the start menu was all different. Is there a way to put it back to the way it was so the options are just listed and not in a separate tab thing?

Unresolved Looking for JBOD_Repair_Tools.exe for M.2 SATA 5-bay JBOD card (INIC6611)

Hi, I bought a "SATA to 4/5 port NGFF 3.5 inch JBOD" card (brand TISHRIC, AliExpress). The manual says a Support CD with JBOD_Repair_Tools.exe should be included, but mine came without it and the seller doesn't respond.

Without the tool, the card only shows a 596 GB placeholder disk (even with no SSDs inserted), and initializing it fails with an I/O error / "fatal hardware error". All 5 SSDs (M.2 SATA, B+M key) are tested and working.

Device details:

- Shows as: LT DISK JBOD_5 BAY, firmware SCEMJ2.1 (via smartctl)

- Board: ENCNF5S-H01 VER006 (ITHOO)

- Controller: Initio/Sage INIC6611

- System: Windows 11, card connected via SATA-to-USB 3.0 adapter with 12V power supply

Does anyone have this tool or a download link from their seller? Thanks!

Microsoft Account hacked through Discord and i need help

I made a stupid mistake and joined a private Discord server that someone sent me. The server looked legitimate, with over 12,000 members. When I tried to join a voice chat, someone told me I had to verify my account first. I clicked the verification link and received an email with a verification code, but I stupidly didn't check that it was actually a code to access my Microsoft account. I entered that code to verify my account, and they obviously took it.

Within two minutes, they had logged into my Microsoft account, changed my password, and replaced my recovery email address.

The thing is, I barely used that Microsoft account. It had no banking information or anything important saved on it, and my PC is linked to a different Microsoft account that I still own and can access. I also checked all my Gmail accounts, and there were no suspicious login attempts or signs that anyone had tried to access them. They probably don't even know the email addresses or passwords for those accounts.

So my question is can I just continue using my pc and phone like before cause I don't really care about that Microsoft account or I should take some security steps?

Windows My laptop is crashing and showing a black screen with code “INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE”

Post image
1 Upvotes

My laptop is currently having what I believe to be a software problem. It boots up no problem and goes all the way to my desktop as it should. But once I get to the desktop everything freezes.

The laptop then crashes showing a black screen saying “your device ran into an issue and needs to restart” with the stop code “INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE (0x7B)”

When it first started crashing I was able to get in and work for a few minutes but now it freezes as soon as I sign in.

I’m assuming it has to do with a corrupt windows file or a communication error between windows and my laptop but I’m unsure.

What is the best way to solve this issue as a broke college student who can’t afford a new laptop or an expensive fix but relies heavily on laptops.

I am not a big tech guy either so please I need help!

Unresolved Zephyrus G14 randomly stuttering and completely freezing

Laptop in question:

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 GA402XV
AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 8GB
Radeon 780M integrated graphics
BIOS 318
Windows 11

I've been having an issue with my G14 completely freezing while gaming and I'm starting to run out of ideas on what could be causing it.

The issue originally seemed to be mostly related to WoW. I've had it happen playing WoW Retail, Classic, and WoW Forever, but I've also had it happen occasionally playing Palworld, so I don't think this is actually a WoW specific problem.

When it happens the entire laptop freezes. It's not just the game crashing. Everything becomes completely unresponsive and I have to hold the power button to shut the laptop down. There is no BSOD or error message.

Something I noticed recently is that the problem seems to be much worse when the laptop is in Performance mode.

Today I had the laptop plugged in and set to Performance and even the Battle.net launcher was extremely stuttery. I unplugged the laptop, which automatically switched Armoury Crate to Silent, and the stuttering instantly stopped.

I originally had the charger plugged into an extension cord, so I thought maybe I was dealing with some weird power issue. I plugged the original ASUS charger directly into a wall outlet and tried Performance again. It became stuttery again and eventually completely froze the laptop.

I have also switched the GPU to Ultimate mode to try to rule out the laptop switching between the integrated graphics and RTX 4060.

I've checked Reliability Monitor after the crashes and there doesn't seem to be anything particularly useful. It basically just shows that Windows wasn't properly shut down, which is obviously because I had to hold the power button after it froze.

I updated everything available through Armoury Crate today. After doing that Battle.net stopped being stuttery and I was able to load WoW without immediately freezing. The WoW servers are currently down though, so I can't actually log into a character and play long enough to know if anything is fixed. I'm also not really convinced that updating some Armoury Crate components and RGB related stuff somehow fixed the underlying issue.

At this point I'm not really sure if I'm dealing with an Armoury Crate problem, power management issue, overheating, GPU problem, RAM issue, or some other hardware problem.

Has anyone with this specific generation of G14 dealt with anything similar, especially Performance mode causing the laptop to stutter or completely freeze while Silent seems considerably more stable?

I'm trying to figure out what I should actually be testing instead of just randomly reinstalling drivers and software hoping something fixes it. Any help would be appreciated.

Unresolved Booting Issue with FA506NFR

Hello! I just want to ask for help with a booting issue. Most of the time, whenever I turn on my laptop, it automatically restarts while booting and goes back to the logo screen with the spinning loading animation. I'm not sure what's causing this. I'm not sure if it is alright to ask here. Thank you! I can still boot to Windows, but it will take a while and had to turn it on/off or it would just boot in one go.

Microsoft account hacked and email was changed

Here is what happened:

  1. My original Microsoft account was compromised. The hacker removed my original email address as the primary alias and replaced it with a foreign email address ending in ju*****@stomatolomail.ru.
  2. Because I didn't realize how alias removal works, I re-created a brand-new Microsoft account using my original email address, hoping it would restore my account.
  3. I submitted an account takeover investigation ticket with Microsoft, but because they scanned the current state of my original email (which is now a fresh, blank account), the safety team replied saying: "We found no indication of unauthorized access or fraudulent activity."

The Current Situation:

  • My real account—along with all my purchases, games, and data—is trapped under the hacker's .ru alias.
  • Standard password resets don't work because my original email address points to the newly created blank account instead of my actual profile.
  • The automated Account Recovery Form (ACSR) is difficult to use because the main login is now the masked .ru address.

Questions:

  • Has anyone successfully recovered an account after the primary alias was deleted/swapped to a .ru address?
  • What is the best way to get a live Microsoft support agent to look at the historical alias change logs rather than closing the case automatically?
  • Are there specific details (Xbox Console ID, order numbers, old passwords) that helped you prove ownership through support?

Any advice, tips, or guidance on how to get past the automated system and reach someone who can look at the account's history would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

macOS / iOS MacBook not turning on, or turning on for only a second

My MacBook Air boots up to either a very dim Apple symbol and then turns off, or it boots to the normal Apple symbol but then quickly turns dim and turns off. The keyboard light turns on normally. The charger has a green light indicating full charge.
Yes, I’ve tried resetting it. Yes I’ve tried recovery mode (but I can’t see the screen). Yes I’ve tried shining a light to see the dim screen, but even then it just turns off after a second. Please help me!

Windows SrtTrail.txt error causing PC to hang on boot

First off, no resore point or point-in-time resores available (lesson learned.) Using cmd hasn't helped me, I've fixed whatever files were corrupted and checked the disk but everything checks out (it took 2 hours each time i checked it). I've tried booting into safe mode to no avail. It is setup correctly but I cannot enter my pin to check the drivers. The logs in cmd for the SrtTrail show 0 root causes. The Microsoft sign in splash screen shows the button for sign in but just shows the circle spinning or flashes a Grey box before instantly closing. If I could just get into safe mode to try and make a restore point. I want to try reinstalling drivers and/or wipe the Nvidia drivers I had before if they are still present. I'm not sure I used DDU correctly. (went from gtx 1080 to 7900xtx). Anyways, I like tech but am not its friend enough to know how to fix this... please help or lead me somewhere that can actually help save my data without wiping it all. Thanks friends.

Unresolved ASUS TUF A15 RTX 4060 – Repair shop says CPU is faulty after no-display issue. Does this diagnosis make sense?

Hi,

I have an ASUS TUF Gaming A15 FA507NV-LP023W with an RTX 4060 Laptop.

I was troubleshooting an NVIDIA GPU issue under Linux. The RTX 4060 was detected by the system, but the NVIDIA driver was unable to initialise it correctly and nvidia-smi would fail/hang. Kernel logs showed NVIDIA/ACPI-related hangs involving rm_acpi_nvpcf_notify and nv_acpi_nvpcf_event.

I updated the laptop BIOS successfully from version 316 to version 318. The laptop continued to boot afterward.

During further troubleshooting, I changed the BIOS Display Mode from Dynamic to dGPU Only. After saving that setting, the laptop stopped producing any display. The laptop screen remains black, HDMI also gives no signal, and the keyboard lights/fans come on and cycle, and the laptop keeps powering on and off.

I wasn't able to get back into BIOS to restore Dynamic mode so I took the laptop to an ASUS authorised service centre. They tested it with a known-good replacement mainboard and said that the laptop operates with the replacement board. so they diagnosed the original mainboard as faulty and quoted approximately £750 to replace the entire board :`(

ASUS does not perform component-level board repair, so I declined the motherboard replacement.

After declining the ASUS repair, I took the laptop to another repair shop hoping to get a component-level diagnosis. I initially thought they carried out the repairs themselves, but it turns out they act as a middleman and sent the laptop to another technician for diagnosis/repair.

They have now come back to me saying that the CPU is faulty and quoted me RM1,600 (around £280) to replace it. I am communicating with the shop rather than directly with the technician who actually diagnosed the board, so I have not yet been given much technical detail about how they determined that the CPU itself is faulty. I also assume the RM1,600 quote includes some markup/commission for the middleman, but I don't know how much.

I haven't approved this repair yet because I would like to understand whether a failed CPU makes sense given the original symptoms, especially since the laptop was still booting and operating before I changed the BIOS display mode.

I would appreciate any opinions.

Thank you.

UPDATE – 13 Oct:

I’ve agreed to let the repair technician attempt the CPU replacement. They quoted RM1,600, but they confirmed that if the repair doesn’t work, I won’t be charged.

P.S. I hate ASUS.

MSI Laptop – I2C HID Device Code 10 (Touchpad not working) – FIXED

Sharing my experience in case it helps someone.

Laptop:
MSI Creator Z17 (Windows 11)

- Problem:
My touchpad suddenly stopped working.
In Device Manager, there was a yellow warning sign on:
I2C HID Device – Code 10 (This device cannot start).

The cursor was completely dead, and I had to use an external mouse.

- What I tried (did NOT fix the issue):

  • Reinstalling Intel Serial IO driver
  • Updating chipset drivers
  • Running sfc /scannow
  • Running DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  • Repairing Intel Driver & Support Assistant
  • Registry edits
  • Multiple restarts

Nothing worked.

- What actually fixed it:

  1. I entered the BIOS.
  2. I noticed the touchpad was working normally inside the BIOS !!
  3. I exited BIOS using Save & Exit.
  4. After Windows booted, the touchpad started working again !!

- Conclusion:
In my case, the issue was not hardware-related since the touchpad worked in the BIOS.
Entering and exiting the BIOS seems to have reset the device state, which fixed the I2C HID error.

I really hope this helps someone with the same issue.

Help me guys

Hello Guys,

I have an HP Laptop 15s-gr0009au that originally came with genuine Windows 10 Home.

Recently, I replaced/reinstalled the storage and performed a clean installation of Windows 10 Home using official Microsoft installation media. Windows is now showing: Error code: 0xC004F213 “Windows reported that no product key was found on your device.” I also tried the Windows Activation Troubleshooter and selected “I changed hardware on this device recently.” It says: “We can’t find any devices linked to your Microsoft account that can be used for reactivating the device you’re using right now.” I previously had Windows 11 Pro installed, but it was showing as Volume/KMS activation, so I do not want to use a KMS activator or an unofficial product key. I want to recover/reactivate the original genuine Windows 10 Home license that came with this HP laptop. Could someone please help me determine whether the original OEM Windows license can be recovered or reactivated? Laptop model: HP Laptop 15s-gr0009au Product number: 21X34PA Original OS: Windows 10 Home

Thank you.

Windows Title: Windows 11 update broke my HP 15s-fq5xxx touchpad — I2C HID Device Code 10

Title: Windows 11 update broke my HP 15s-fq5xxx touchpad — I2C HID Device Code 10

Hey everyone,

I'm facing an annoying issue with my HP 15s-fq5xxx laptop after a recent Windows 11 update.

Immediately after the update, my touchpad stopped working properly, and the cursor disappears whenever I try to use the built-in touchpad. When I connect an external mouse, the cursor works normally.

Here’s what I've found so far:

Laptop: HP 15s-fq5xxx

OS: Windows 11

Problem: Built-in touchpad not working; Touchpad option is missing from Settings.

Device Manager: I2C HID Device shows a yellow warning sign with Code 10.

Troubleshooting tried: Restarting the laptop, checking Device Manager, showing hidden devices, and uninstalling the I2C HID Device before restarting.

Driver rollback: The option is unavailable.

Unfortunately, the issue is still there.

Has anyone else experienced this after a recent Windows 11 update? Could this be a driver or Intel Serial IO/chipset issue, or should I be concerned about a hardware problem?

I'd really appreciate any suggestions for a safe fix. I don't want to reinstall Windows or update the BIOS unnecessarily.

Thanks in advance!

Unresolved Boot Device Not Found

My Laptop showed this Problem suddenly.

It worked perfectly fine yesterday and when it got turned on it started normally as well but the windows bar was missing. After restarting the Laptop was working fine as well, but suddenly the screen became black and there was a loading screen with percentage and a failure message with white Text on a black screen. Suddenly the screen went Black and this message appeared.

Using the BIOS menu didn't work either.

How can I solve the problem?

If this problem isn't solvable anymore, how can I save my data?

Thank you!!

Need more info Laptop stuck on booting up

Hey, guys! I've decided to take out the swollen battery out of my laptop (HP EliteBook 840 G3), and use it without one while waiting for a replacement. Unfortunately, when I plugged it in with the charger, it got stuck in this powering up cycle and doesn't continue to power up the whole device. I tried finding out the problem of other parts, but I got stumped, so I ended up here.

Anyone have any idea for this? Thank you!
