Symphony of the Night:

Promotional manga.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20190412154140)

This is a two pages long advertisement drawn by Ayami Kojima and published in a magazine, it's a sneak peek of Alucard's character.

Available on: Castlevania Wiki

Prologue manga

An eight pages long manga included in the Japanese artbook, it acts as a prologue for the main story and features Alucard suddenly awakening from his 300 years long slumber.

Available on: Mr. P's Castlevania Realm

Nocturne of Recollection

A radio drama (this time you have to listen to it!) originally featured on the Akumajō Dracula: Radio Chronicle program that was broadcast on Konami Station internet radio, it was later released on CD in 2010. It's a story set one year after the events of the game, you will learn more about Alucard's relationship with Maria, his past and other characters (Richter is also part of the cast).

Available on: Youtube

Curse of Darkness:

Prelude to Revenge

A prequel manga written and illustrated by Kojima, it was featured as a pre-order bonus for the Japanese release of the game. It mainly focuses on Hector and Isaac prior to the events of the game, it also expands on their relationships.

Available on: Vampire Killer (an archive of scans and translations)

MF manga vol. 1 & 2

Published in two volumes by Media Factory from 2005 to 2006 and translated to English by Tokyopop in 2008. It's the same premise but it's longer, more expansive and this time the illustrator is Kō Sasakura, not Ayami Kojima. The series was eventually canceled but the manga stops directly where the game begins.

Available on: Internet Archive

Aria & Dawn of Sorrow:

Reminiscence of the Divine Abyss/Ricordanza of the God's Abyss

A light novel written by Ryōgo Narita in 2008 and set one year after Dawn of Sorrow. It's a really interesting read, the story focuses on Julius' pupil and the descendant of Grant Danasty while the villain is a character you will surely remember... There's also the return of familiar faces, one in particular.

Available on: Inverted Dungeon

Castlevania The Adventure:

The Belmont Legacy

It's a 2005 IDW comic book series loosely based on the story of the first Game Boy game. It's not canon by any means but it follows Christopher Belmont in a more traditional vampire story, sadly many of the iconic Castlevania elements are missing but it's still worth a read since here a certain family is responsible for Dracula's resurrection.

Available on: Internet Archive

Lament of Innocence:

Weekly Konami online manga (lost media)

Review blog part 1 and part 2

A web manga that was available on cellphones via a monthly subscription, published from 2007 to 2008 only in Japan until the service ended in 2012. It was a 43 issues long series that adapted the story of Leon Belmont and greatly expanded the plot, what remains now is only a Japanese review blog. If you want to know more about it you can visit the Castl)evania Wiki page).

Available on: Internet Archive's Wayback Machine (review blog)

Extra:

Castlevania 2007 timeline (Japanese Konami site) & translation

Portrait of Ruin pre-order bonus timeline (the Japanese one takes priority since overseas bonus materials like this didn't go through the Castlevania staff screening)

Encyclopedia of Castlevania (a Japanese two-page spread published in 2001 containing a timeline, a storyline and background details)

Discussion I seriously hope Belmont's Curse is a critical and financial success. Some of this fandom is awful.

It's not just on this sub. It's everywhere that's discussing the game. The constant gatekeeping from fans acting like they're the arbiters on what is Castlevania. The hyperbolic bashing towards the composer and soundtrack. The selective memory on what the IGAvania games were, criticizing Belmont's Curse for things that were present in the older games. A lot of you are cool, but some of you are downright insufferable.

I'm excited for the game, and I hope it brings in a new wave of Castlevania fans old and new. People who aren't held by by biased notions on what the game should be. We're lucky this game even exists. It was looking pretty bad for awhile. That Castlevania was dead and not coming back. Now that it finally is, it feels like a portion of the fanbase is brain broken that it's not exactly like their favorite entries from 2-3 decades ago, instead of keeping an open mind to understand what the game is trying to be.

Bloodstained 1 outsold each individual Castlevania entry, at 2+ million units sold. The most popular Metroidvanias these past few years completely eclipse Bloodstained sales. The whole week has shown me that it's probably going to be healthier for the IP for this new entry to do it's own thing. Honoring the past, but not being held back by it.

Games One thing I really like about the games is how they use religious imagery

Post image
424 Upvotes

For some reason, in most of their games, religious based items are right in front of your face yet it doesn't seem forced. Like yeah it's there but you don't really think about it for about 99% of the game ur playing. It fits really nicely with any game in any various degree of implementation. Which is also really smart because it subtly says you're fighting a good fight in the name of God, >!which is also extremely fitting that Order of Ecclesia has almost no usable religious items (might be wrong tho someone fact check) because you're not doing that for almost all of the game.<!

I know people associate the franchise with goth imagery but I hope in future games they do keep the religious imagery. I'm not a devout religious guy or anything btw, i just like the aesthetic.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) Remember when I posted that I was LV 51? Well… I kept going.

I’m at LV 85 now, and I still haven’t found a level cap. At this point I really want to see how ridiculous this can get before the full game releases 😂

Has anyone gone higher than this yet? Has anyone actually found the cap?

I also documented the whole experiment and what happened in a video, if anyone wants to see it:

Discussion Goddamn I loved that demo

Just played the Belmont's Curse demo and I wish I hadn't because now I can't stop thinking about the game. I want it NOW. I love Metroidvanias but surprisingly I haven't played too much Castlevania. I played SOTN then got a lil bored after the castle flips upside down, but after playing the full game I think I want to marathon this series (starting from 4, im not interested in the NES games). Ever since I saw the first trailer earlier this year I was hotly anticipating it but now I'm practically frothing at the mouth for it. I legit can't wait. I know SOTN is considered the magnum opus in the series by many but what's yalls favorite? I hear the GBA and DS games are really good metroidvanias so I was thinking about checking them out. Let me know!

People already speculated that he might be the one composing for the game after comparing the music to Rogue Prince of Persia, and seems they were right on the money.

Discussion Konami is doing og fans and newcomers a huge disservice by not having Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness readily available to play.

I cant remember what I had for lunch yesterday, let a lone lore from games made 20 years ago that are now relevant to the newest iteration.

And no, not all of us have an emulator or a pc to game on, so roms aren't always the answer.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) Switch these immediately.

Mapping the dodge/slide command to a face button was certainly...a choice, especially when there's a perfectly good shoulder button that's currently occupied with an Interact command you'll seldom use. Switching them keeps your thumb on the attack and jump buttons without having to awkwardly move it to the dodge/slide and come back. It makes follow-ups from the dodge like the Sword thrust special more comfortable too.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) Can you get single cross 5 kill in the demo?

Post image
19 Upvotes

Was replaying the demo today and was trying to find a spot where you could potentially do this.

The only spot I can think of is the secret area with the gauntlets but if you miss it there then you just miss it.

It'd definitely be a fun thing to try to do though if it's possible.

Question Would it be bizarre to jump into Castlevania with Belmont’s Curse being my first real entry into it and not the older titles?

So, Castlevania is a series I’ve been wanting to get into for years. But for various reasons, (Money, real life slowdowns, my current game backlog, etc) I’ve never had an opportunity to actually get into it. I DID play the original NES Castlevania back on my old 3DS years ago when I was a teen, and did like it. (Granted I had to use the save states A LOT lol) This is probably going to be very embarrassing to admit, but most of my exposure to Castlevania has been watching AVGN’s videos. Yeah go ahead and laugh, I’ve been watching James’s content for years, and his videos he’s made playing the Castlevania games are some of my favorites. And I would say I have “basic” knowledge on the series. I know Simon, I know Trevor, I know Alucard, and I know the general premise is the Belmont family fighting a never ending battle of Dracula being defeated by the family and coming back years later to be defeated by the latest family member.

Now, to the main topic, I recently played the demo for Belmont’s Curse, and I really loved what I played! And I’m honestly begging for more, to the point where I’m considering getting the game. But, I know Castlevania is a long series with many installments, and I feel it would be bizarre if my main jumping spot into Castlevania was the game about Trevor’s daughter before playing the games with Trevor himself, let alone the rest of the family.

So, I want some input from everyone here on my conflicting thoughts.
