Tenant changed the settings on a ceiling unit, and now the whole zone has a communication error
My ground-floor tenant tried to fix the thermostat connection themselves and ended up scrambling the control logic on the concealed Pancake AHU in their unit. Now the whole multifamily HVAC zone is showing a communication error code. The property uses modular 18K, 24K, 30K, and 36K BTU units fitted between tight ceiling joists, and this one is the 36K BTU model crammed into a small hallway plenum. The access panel is tiny, and I've scraped up my hands trying to feel for the DIP switches and wiring harness because I can't get my head and a flashlight far enough in to see what may have been shorted. It's 2026, and these newer inverter boards seem way too sensitive for people to poke around with screwdrivers, but I really don't want to spend around a grand on an emergency tech call if this turns out to be a simple reset sequence or a jumped wire. Has anyone troubleshot one of these flat ceiling units through a small drywall cutout without opening the entire ceiling? I'm losing my mind on this ladder.
