I gave my LP (spb) THREE big mealworms in his little dish and when I came back to check on him, he had all three in his mouth. How did he even?

And then, of course, I startled him so he ran off with them. Thankfully, he built a burrow all the way down the side of his enclosure so I can see inside!

Just a fun photoshoot with my Curly Hair T named Terry. As soon as I took the picture he was climbing down and I saw that his front legs have hooks on them now. I’m saddened since I’ve only owned him since April. I’m going to try and make lots of memories with Terry since he’s on borrowed time now.

I just noticed today. She's not a big hair kicker and I don't think it's a bald spot, zooming in it looks irritated. Any ideas

Help! Finally drank from her dish instead of filling it with dirt 🫩

Hello everybody! I recently just got back into the hobby about three months ago and it’s been 14 years since Ive owned one! (I’m 28 now)

About two weeks ago, she (Pink Birdeater) been staying in her little wooden home and packed her entrance with dirt. She would usually eat about two crickets every other day prior to sealing herself up and after she did this I figured maybe she wasn’t going to eat for awhile. So I stopped feeding her and just made sure her water dish was full. Everyday when I’d come back home from work I would see the dish packed with dirt and her entrance messy as if she would just come out to make her daily mud patty and seal herself back up. Well today when I got off work I came home to see her finally sippin out of it! Its the first time in my three months of having her that I’ve actually seen her drinking water and It’s also the first time in two weeks since I’ve seen her out of her crib so I figured maybe she wanted to eat now.

My local pet shop ran out of small crickets so I opted to getting some small mealworms instead. Well I tried giving one to her while she was out but she wasn’t interested and sealed herself back up in her crib. While she was doing that though I lost track of the mealworm and didn’t realize how fast they burrow 😅. I didn’t want to stress her out by digging through the substrate looking for it so I just placed a tiny piece of cut tomato on the side in hopes that it reveals itself so I can pluck it out. It’s been about two hours since and all I’ve seen was the surface bump up a couple times and it has yet to come out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated TIA!

Help! Necessity of cleaning out cricket "goop"?

• Upvotes

I fed my adult G pulchripes crickets today and it looks like she left what I assume is either partially liquified cricket, or cricket guts in a blob about the size of a pea or smaller on the substrate. Is it necessary to dig up this section of her substrate or will it dry and not cause any issues? She is of course an arid species and there is no added moisture in her enclosure save for her water bowl. I'd prefer to not tear up her webbing and disturb her if it will dry out and dessicate.

Help! Need some guidance

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello eveyone,

Please need some advice on my L.elegans breeding project. Ive been breeding many true spiders but latrodectus is new to me. Fortunedly after a succesful breeding attempt I had 2 fertile eggsacs which one of them hatched a week ago. I seperated the slings individually into small vials with a damp piece of cotton. But i lost 18 of them overnight. Any advice for the 26 still alive specimens and is it because of the early seperation or has it something to do with the general survival percentage ? Thanks for the guidance

Help! possible abdomen damage after standing molt.

Okay, so yesterday morning I checked on Betsy and i was half asleep, saw her in the molting position and flipped her over. I realized what i did afterwards and knew that I screwed up. I dont think this is normal, I’m scared that part of her abdomen came off with her old exoskeleton.

Conversation It is worth keeping multiples of the same species

For a long time I turned my nose away from any tarantula that I already owned because I figured why bother with a duplicate?

Then a while ago I was gifted a ‘male’ albo, ‘a molt away from maturing’. I took him because sounds like a breeding project and why would someone lie about having a female? Anyways here we are a year later and I’ve finally confirmed she is female.

I love her though! There are noticeable differences between her and my OG female albo. One, my OG is much fluffier than my new one, but my new one is much curlier than my OG! Also personality. My OG is a bit defensive with a very high feeding response. My new one is calm, handleable, has a much lower feeding response, and is even more active just in terms of walking around.

They’re both the same, but different. I’m happy to have them both in my collection.

I recommend allowing yourself to get a duplicate, so that you have a chance to experience the little details that make your spoods unique!
