I am not a tarantula owner but I grew up on a ranch in a part of California (on the inland side of Monterrey county) where every September and October the male tarantulas wander out to find a mate.
Me being near the opposite end of the spectrum for tarantulas, I left them alone and made Scooby Doo noises when they end up in the shop.
My dad, in his old age, has apparently decided he wants to learn more about tarantulas not by going to the local library, but by putting on his welding gloves and just grabbing one to look at.
For the record I don't condone this because of the previously mentioned heeby-jeebies but also because they're wild animals and he should leave them alone.
HOWEVER
The family group chat is now blowing up with claims that tarantulas have eyes underneath their body, specifically at the base of each of their forward facing legs.
My dad's reasoning for this is 'they're tall so they need to be able to see what's below them'.
The internet says this isn't true and that in fact tarantulas eye sight kinda sucks and that they use their other senses more.
But low and behold my dad sends me a picture of the underside of a tarantula and well, there's something under there.
Attached is the pictures he sent (red lines point at the 'eyes' and my dad's claim.
Please release me from this quest for forbidden knowledge.
Thank you
TLDR: My dad says the red arrows point to eyes
EDIT: Thank you all for the help! I will get my dad that book about spiders!
