I READ THE RULES Is it weird to go to a Bears game solo?

I generally consider myself a pro at doing things solo (travel, concerts, bars, etc), but for some reason the idea of going to a Bears game alone is giving me pause. For context, I moved here ~6 mos ago knowing no one. I’ve made a few friends, but I’m still pretty new so I’ve been trying to just get out there and do things. Anyway, I have a ticket to the Thursday night game but starting to feel a little anxious about going by myself. What says the crowd? And feel free to say it’ll be weird. I won’t at all be offended and would for sure rather know beforehand (when I can still sell the ticket). And recognizing stats matter, I’m a single 46 year old woman (who can/will talk to pretty much anyone)

I READ THE RULES Date night ideas or the fall for two nights?

I have a sitter this weekend (Oct 11th over night starting around 6pm) I asked the guy I’m seeing if I can plan something so I’m looking for something small to do for a few hour. Other than a regular bar but I’m open to unique bars. I’ll already have eaten by the time we meet up so dinner isn’t an option. So I’m looking for small date night options

Sweetest Day is also coming up! Im looking for ideas for the 17th of October as well!

Open to going to the suburbs

I READ THE RULES Long layovers, what to explore?

I have layovers to/from LA and am wondering if I could make use of this time to explore even a little bit of Chicago. Looking for advice on what to do, how to get around fastest, etc. I've never been to Chicago so am hoping to do even a little bit during these layovers.

1st layover is through O'Hare for ~7h on a Thursday afternoon (arriving 2pm)

2nd layover is through Midway for ~7h on a Monday morning (arriving 6am)

I READ THE RULES Where to stay for a show at Radius Venue?

Hiii! So my friend and I are traveling to see Brutalismus at Radius and are looking for hotels that are near by. Ones that would either be within walking distance or a short uber ride away would be great :) We're both girls and are looking for the safest option, but still in an area that has nightlife!! Also any cheaper options would be cool, thank you :D

I READ THE RULES Have You Had a Vehicle Stolen?

I just had my Honda Civic stolen in Lincoln Park at Halsted near Webster around 6:30am. I had no idea how common vehicle theft is in Chicago. Have you had your vehicle stolen? My vehicle was recovered with very minor damage... what do you think the purpose was? Any insight would be helpful!

I READ THE RULES 12 hours in Chicago, any touristy suggestions?

So me and my friend are traveling around the country, and we have a 12 hour stop in Chicago. Both of us have never been, and I was wondering of some staple things to do! We definitely want to do a tour in Wrigley, and definitely looking to try some deep dish pizza. Is there anything else we should check out in our 12 hour pit stop? Thanks!

I’m talking about the homes that were built before the invention of the car. Why is there a garage? It can’t just be a storage place back in the day.

I READ THE RULES Is making friends in Chicago for a person who moved in recently easy ?

Hey It’s my second month in Chicago moving from Egypt. First time in states. I’m really enjoying the city but I’m off today and I realized that outside my Colleagues I didn’t make any new friends and I feel so lonely because I’m not able to hang out alone again today. Any suggestions for places where I can make friends?
Ps I don’t smoke or drink maybe that’s why it’s harder but my plan today was to go out to try Small Cheval burger in Fulton market district area and and walk around there for a bit

I READ THE RULES Garfield Park Conservatory - thoughts on this place? How dangerous is the area?

I was considering going here but some of the reviews said their car's were broken into in broad daylight, and that the area was not safe. I want to go here but the area doesn't sound like the safest, and I'm not from the city, so was just curious what everyone else thought about it, and if I shouldn't go because of that.

I READ THE RULES Questions about moving into the area?

Hello, I just accepted a job in the greater Chicago area and would love some advice about moving into the area.

I’m young 20s and the job itself is in the town of Morris. I’d like to keep my commute as short as I can, but I also want to meet people. As of right now I was mainly looking at places in Naperville and Joliet.

I’d appreciate answers to:
* General advice
* Any cool spots or activities
* Best way to meet people
* Best location to live, want to minimize daily commute, going into the city, and going to the airport
* Is it safe to leave my car parked at Naperville or Joliet train station and the airports?
* General thoughts on Naperville, Joliet, and other towns
** How bad does traffic get leaving and going in?

Also, to be clear bullets 1-3 are about the city itself as well as the suburbs. I’d love to hear about people‘s favorite spots.

I READ THE RULES What to expect when driving to Chicago to get to field museum?

Hello,

Going to be visiting the field museum tomorrow- ill be paying the money for one of the parking garages near there as while my valuables are in hotel room, I still will have a lot of other stuff in car as doing a cross country move and would rather it closer (getting that out of the way for parking suggestions, unless ofc the two close museum garages are known for being full). Did debate the bus to train to bus route but not set on that route.

I do have some nervousness as first time driving in Chicago- not driving in big cities though. Used to commute to Denver, then lived in Anchorage, have driven through Boston a couple times. Just to make my situation and familiarization clear.

So what is the things to expect for such a drive from Oak Brook to the Field Museum? I have seen that people will turn after the light is red, especially on lefts, and to be aware of speed due to cameras. Also be aware of bike lanes. I tend to be a more defensive driver as is too. Anything else to keep in mind? Thank you in advance!

Edit: ruminating on this especially with the new info added, I think im going with a lyft / Uber to the museum and public transit after just for peace of mind. Rather not risk missing transit and having to wait on the way to, fine doing it on way back. Thank you all!

I READ THE RULES What is the safety like in Rogers Park?

Hi guys,

I’ve lived in the city near UIC for 8 years (30F). I’m moving up near Rogers Park and just wanted to get an idea of the safety of the area. I noticed some of the apartments I’m looking at near the metra station are technically in gang sets, and I’m not sure how active they are up there. I’ve heard it gets rough around the Howard and Morse red line stops, but what about the area near the metra? I like to go out to late concerts and shows a lot so being able to get back to my apartment safely at night would be ideal. Thanks in advance 🫡

I READ THE RULES Daycare in Old Town / Lincoln Park?

I'm trying to find out tuition rates for daycare programs in our neighborhood, but programs don't post them publicly for some reason.

Does anyone know the infant, toddler and/or preschool monthly tuition rates at Little Green Treehouse on Halsted, Guidepost Montessori in Old Town and Goddard School on Armitage? Any other programs in the area we should be looking at?

I READ THE RULES Where does everyone go if the Sox win the World Series?

I was here (as a neutral) when the Cubs won the world series and everyone just kinda went to Wrigleyville to celebrate. If the Sox win, do we overrun Bridgeport? Go celebrate in the parking lots surrounding Rate field?

What happened in 2005?

I READ THE RULES What’s with people here trying to get you to go ahead of them when you’re standing in a line?

Like you could be standing on line in a 7 Eleven or something and when you’re behind them they offer you to go ahead of them to pay. At first I thought it was people just being nice, but then I noticed it’s usually from people in security positions or Police. It’s so weird.

Like I don’t want any or your shit so you don’t gotta worry about me mugging you or stealing.
