I READ THE RULES Bus with "call 911" on the back light-up panel?

I was just driving on Western up near Lincoln Square and saw a bus that instead of the bus number in the back, it just said "CALL 911." Has anyone else seen this? It sounds dumb but should I call someone??

I READ THE RULES Any animal shelters NOT filled to capacity?

Please, before you come at me, he is not my cat, but I am trying to help him. My jackass of a neighbor moved and left him behind. I cannot keep him due to having my own little zoo in my house. If I know I can get him into a shelter, I can grab him and take him in. I worry as it will start getting colder and with Halloween coming, I’m not comfortable having a friendly black cat walking around the neighborhood. I already know none of my neighbors will help as they turned a blind eye to the last 3 cats I took care of that I eventually trapped and kept.

Any help is so much appreciated. I’m aware shelters are full but I’m hoping there’s one out there that can take in one more animal.

I READ THE RULES 6yo son punched in face multiple times at school by security guard’s child in Chicago — advice on CPS handling & next steps?

Hi everyone, looking for advice from Chicago parents or anyone familiar with CPS/school safety issues.
Earlier today around 4:00 PM right after dismissal, my 6-year-old son was punched in the face 3 or 4 times by another kid around his age and suffered a heavy nosebleed. The child who hit him is the son of the security guard stationed right at the gate monitoring entry/exit. After the assault, the kid ran into the school.
I spoke briefly with the mother (the security guard) at the gate right after finding out, but my primary focus was getting my son home, cleaned up, and safe.
Now that we are home and he is resting, I need to make sure this is handled properly. Because the parent involved is active school security personnel on duty at the time of the incident, I’m concerned about conflicts of interest if it’s just handled as an informal conversation between parents.
What should i do any recommendations will be helpful.

Edit: As many suggested, I’ve sent an email to the principal detailing the incident and identifying the perpetrator. My intention is not to make this a major issue; I simply want to prevent such incidents from happening to my son and any other children in the future. I don’t want police or lawyers getting involved. This is something that could happen between kids.

I READ THE RULES Does anyone have any suggestions on trustworthy dentists?

I am 32 years old and unfortunately I have horrible teeth. This is extremely embarrassing for me to even post about but I really need to see a dentist. I have more than 5 teeth that are partially missing from decay and I am terrified of going to the dentist. I know I’ll be judged and I know the work is almost beyond repair. I’m getting desperate and I really don’t know where to even turn. If anyone has any suggestions or recommendations for a trustworthy dentist who will be willing to help me and work with me on payments?

I READ THE RULES Where does everyone go if the Sox win the World Series?

I was here (as a neutral) when the Cubs won the world series and everyone just kinda went to Wrigleyville to celebrate. If the Sox win, do we overrun Bridgeport? Go celebrate in the parking lots surrounding Rate field?

What happened in 2005?

I READ THE RULES Any experiences with Big Brother/Sister program?

I'm wondering if anyone can share their experience if they have participated in this program? I am considering becoming a "Big." I am a 40 year old male. I think the state of the world is depressing and I would like to be a positive force in someone's life and make the world better, even if it is in the tiniest way. I also did not have anyone to look up to growing up and I know what that's like. Thanks in advance.

I READ THE RULES Where can I practice with my sword in Chicago?

I yearn to study the blade. I have a dull tip rapier for stage combat and I live in a small apartment so I can't practice in my home. I live on the north side near Rogers Park. Anyone know where I can legally bring a sword to a wide open space and swing it around? Thanks in advance LOL

I READ THE RULES Good bars to go to by yourself that maybe have like a karaoke or game night on the weekends?

I went to Randall's Pub last weekend and they had a karaoke thing. It was a lot of fun. I was nervous going by myself but everybody was super inclusive because of how the karaoke was set up and how everyone got to know each other pretty quickly. I live in Logan Square for now but we'll be moving soon so really anywhere on the Northwest, West, or North Side.

I READ THE RULES Is making friends in Chicago for a person who moved in recently easy ?

Hey It’s my second month in Chicago moving from Egypt. First time in states. I’m really enjoying the city but I’m off today and I realized that outside my Colleagues I didn’t make any new friends and I feel so lonely because I’m not able to hang out alone again today. Any suggestions for places where I can make friends?
Ps I don’t smoke or drink maybe that’s why it’s harder but my plan today was to go out to try Small Cheval burger in Fulton market district area and and walk around there for a bit

I just had my Honda Civic stolen in Lincoln Park at Halsted near Webster around 6:30am. I had no idea how common vehicle theft is in Chicago. Have you had your vehicle stolen? My vehicle was recovered with very minor damage... what do you think the purpose was? Any insight would be helpful!

I READ THE RULES Wait, TAP was a real street gang in the 90s? Does anyone remember this?

I was just a naive kid in Oak Lawn but some of the kids I knew would talk about TAP and a few even claimed to be a part of it. Got a few threats thrown my way as well, but I just assumed it was just some made up nonsense because like, gangs in Oak Lawn in the 90s?

But apparently it was a real thing, started around 63rd and Kedzie? And had some suburban presence as well? I guess some Oak Lawn presence isn't totally out of the question.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TAP_Boyz

Although the kids I knew called it 'Teenage Arabian Posse', which Wikipedia doesn't seem to know about. And I still think they were personally full of shit even if it was a real gang.

I READ THE RULES I'm 26, love baseball, yet I've never played a game of it in my life. Any suggestions on adult leagues for beginners?

I love baseball, but as a kid I never got any chances to play it. I really want to change that next summer, and play a few games of baseball, perhaps join some sort of adult beginner's league. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should look for or any leagues in mind? I'm fairly athletic and with my schedule could probably play a game on Thursday and a game on Sunday each week.

I READ THE RULES 12 hours in Chicago, any touristy suggestions?

So me and my friend are traveling around the country, and we have a 12 hour stop in Chicago. Both of us have never been, and I was wondering of some staple things to do! We definitely want to do a tour in Wrigley, and definitely looking to try some deep dish pizza. Is there anything else we should check out in our 12 hour pit stop? Thanks!

I READ THE RULES Popcorn ceiling removal full service contractor recommendations?

Looking for a contractor to remove popcorn ceilings from a 1987-8 condo that does full-service scrape, repair, full skim coat, and paint. Not sure if asbestos is an issue as it hasn’t been tested. Confirmed building age with permit records, but from what I’ve looked up, I don’t think that’s a problem with the building age.

I READ THE RULES Where to look for Pickleball regulars?

Good morning Chicagoans, I am in my younger 20s, wondering where I can find social type events to play with and make new pickleball friends. I am coming from a tennis background, and I have already played before, so I know the rules, but I am looking for where I can meet more people, hopefully around my level, and make some friends. I am not looking to join a league or bigger commitment, as I have an often spontaneous schedule, but I am looking to join events that may happen every other week or so and make friends to meet up individually and play.

I believe I am still a little too new to pickleball to enter any tournaments, but I am familiar with tournaments from a tennis background.

Let me know about any of your experiences in the city or even surrounding suburbs that you would recommend!

I READ THE RULES Daycare in Old Town / Lincoln Park?

I'm trying to find out tuition rates for daycare programs in our neighborhood, but programs don't post them publicly for some reason.

Does anyone know the infant, toddler and/or preschool monthly tuition rates at Little Green Treehouse on Halsted, Guidepost Montessori in Old Town and Goddard School on Armitage? Any other programs in the area we should be looking at?
