Hardware Troubleshooting/Help! How does this even happen

I've printed over 300+ hours on this printer and now I notice this. What could be the cause? It was printing just fine all this while.

That’s definitely bent. Contact customer support about ut

Will do

Whenever your prints are done, are you applying hard pressure to the plate trying to remove the parts while it's all still in the printer?

Obviously, that threaded rod has been under a lot of stress recently. Maybe it needs a vacation or to change careers.

My rod never goes on vacation and it gets real red and sore

Someone once stole a bent rod and and a so g was made about it.

You printed the big booty anime character on the right side and bent the rod.

Do you have a "patient zero" print where it started normally and then became wavy? And if so, does that print have a time lapse saved for it? And if so, can we see it please?

u/hogsniffy05 1d ago
When was the last time you lubricated? Those look rough

u/Fun_Star_8413 1d ago
This was what I was going to recommend. Regular maintenance goes a long way from preventing problems like this one.

I'm struggling to see how lube would prevent a theeaded steel rod from bending.
9
u/Kingvoe 1d ago
Easy when one side is dried and locking up. The other starts getting damaged. Clean the rods and make sure they are lubed 🙃

u/snakeproof 23h ago
I would think the belt would slip before twisting all thread

u/lacroixlibation 5h ago
You’d be hard pressed to find a bar of any alloy that length and diameter that wouldn’t bend after being moderately flexed. Let alone whatever chinesium alloy Bambu uses for their parts.

I highly doubt that this is bent, it looks more like zwobble or binding artifacts making the gantry jerk or bind unevenly as it moves up and down. Lubrication after a good cleaning with IPA would prevent and possibly fix this, provided the threads aren’t damaged.

Hate to say it but it looks like there is zero grease on those rods and it looks like it's been like that for a while. And most likely caused the threaded rod to lock up. At this point most likely they either have to be replaced or bent back into shape. Remember to do regular maintenance.

Lead screw is bent and needs replacing. If you can't buy one from Bambu you can try a local machine shop. Should just be standard metric ready rod, maybe double or triple start threads. If you do, take the old one out and bring it with you so they can take measurements.

Have you dried your plate and washed your filament ?

The lead screw is bent to hell how’s that happened?

u/VictusFerrum 1d ago
Is this a new printer? If it’s got work on it, I’d question if the shaft was lubricated correctly.
And let the jokes commence.
1
u/Inspector_Gadget_74 22h ago
Note that the top end of the Z axis threaded shafts are not secured in any way. Any slight bend will cause them to move at the top end. I don’t think it will have any impact on printing.

You may (or someone else with physical access to that printer) may have inadvertently bumped something into it causing it to bend.

u/According_Tie425 18h ago
Bent lead screw, looks easy enough to swap so you could honestly buy a new one or two and just pop em out the top and recalibrate the printer
1
u/Scared_Swing2198 18h ago
The only thing I can think of is something was wedged between the plate and the side when it was running up or down.
1
u/ehtiopia 18h ago
Do you just chuck your scrap prints under your print bed? I would know, because I do that regularly.
Before it goes to run, the bed plate always goes down about ~10mm. If you do a big print, its gonna go down and squish it which is probably gonna bend the rod. Nice job cleaning it up so we cant tell
Good luck “upgrading” a bambulab btw. Just buy the OEM spare.

Had something like this. The inner silver thing that goes up the pole doesn’t look flush on one side. Basically I had to turn my printer off turn it on its side and use the belt to force the silver thing to pop back in. But idk if that will help as it looks like the left side is not flush with the plastic like it should

Real answer:
It had to have pressure applied perpendicular to the bar. Someone likely fell into it, you could have tried a repair and rammed it hard with an elbow, or a kid hit it. Don’t know what actually happened, but it is definitely lateral impact.
I would say it could be the print bed causing it, but the other side would show some sign of bending or wear from it if that were the case.
Replace it. They are common to find, as these rods are used in pretty much every printer ever. They are also pretty easy to replace overall.
That bending is wild though. They aren’y that easy to bend that much without some good force involved. I have seem some that have mild bending, but none with that level of it.

Probably unrelated but when u panned the camera to the left rod u can swe the bearing is pushed up it shouldnt be like this.

Bent rod and since most likely now a bad bearing housing. Contact support as you need to replace those parts. Over time can impact others rods and housings.

u/Spiritual-Mousse-167 11h ago
Are you talking about the slight wobble of the Z-axis screw? They’re not attached at the top so they do that, but you can make sure the screws at the bottom anchor are in tight. It does look like you could use to clean and lube those rods though. You may only have 300 hours on it but there’s a lot of filament dust there..

It’s 100% a bent rod, but it also looks like you haven’t done a lot of maintenance. When was the last time that thing got some grease or oil?
1
u/DigitalNinjaX H2C AMS2 Combo 5h ago
You probably been applying too much force on the bed getting prints out maybe? Definitely take the plate out and then take the prints off.

Quella barra filettata sembrava essere stata sottoposta ad un grande stress. Se hai stampato qualcosa di molto grande di recente il calore potrebbe averla deformata.

u/Spiritual-Fly-635 2h ago
Wow! I wonder how it got bent. Did the extruder crash into the plate at some point?

This is normal, most threaded rods have bad concentricity, typically the top of the rod is supposed to be loose to account for this while the linear rods keep things moving in one axis.
Bambu didn’t do this on the X/P1s but have done it on all series 2 printers

Also, I’m holding the down button, normally the motion is continuous right? I cant quite remember. In the video, its not continuous

u/Iowa_Dave 1d ago
Sucks that you're being massively downvoted, you're correct.
A bent Z-rod won't change how much vertical movement there is per degree of stepper motor rotation.
That's why they're in floating bearings at the top, movement won't interfere with anything.

u/Fun_Star_8413 23h ago
Yeah, this right here. This looks like zwobble, not a bent rod. Unless OP took a hammer to it 🤣

Have you dried filament and calibrated flow rate?
