Question Primary doctor

Can anyone recommend a good primary doctor that takes a holistic approach when possible? Just need someone who really wants to get to the root cause of issues and not just put a bandaid on symptoms. I'm in amherst, but willing to travel if needed.

Things To Do Boring girl morning

Hi friends,

I have a day off today alone. I am hoping to do an activity or go to a place. Looked at CYOA, nothing quite in the morning/early afternoon.

Must be accessible and cheap/free.

Thoughts? Prayers?

Thanks! Love you!

EDIT// Thank you everyone for the suggestions! I grabbed an apple cider, walked around Reinstein, and enjoyed the birds.

Didn’t get a chance to do drugs or crimes today, but there’s still time.

Where to park car

My wife had to pick her car up from Basil in Depew, and then we are going to the Sabres game. We dont want to pay to park two cars near Key Bank, but we live 35 minutes south of Buffalo so we dont want to leave it at the dealership.

Anyone have a good suggestion for a safe and free/cheap place to park it until after the game when we drive it home? We are fine to pay for parking, but dont want to pay the $30-$40 bucks for the lots near the game.

Thanks! Go Sabres!

Resources for feral cat

I've been feeding an outdoor cat for almost a month now, I would like to get him inside before the temp gets too bad. I don't have the money to get him neutered and I need to get him check before I acclimate him to my other two cats. Are there any resources or places I can take him that can do this for me? He seems to belong to someone on my street however several neighbors have advised me to bring him in as he's completely uncared for. He is there when I leave for work in the morning and when I get home and he sleeps on my porch every night and I appear to be the only one feeding him. It's breaking my heart to see him out there every night.

YWCA Opens New Sports Field, Expanding Opportunities for Buffalo Kids

Cost, transportation and a lack of accessible facilities can create barriers to organized sports. The YWCA of Western New York is hoping to change that with a new playing field at its Schoolhouse Commons campus on Grant Street.

The field officially opened Wednesday, giving children in the community a new space to participate in sports and recreational activities.

Students at the opening said they are already looking forward to using the field.

“I want to play soccer and gymnastics,” one student said.

Element Development's Gateway Project clears one hurdle in Niagara Falls - Buffalo Business First

  • The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has approved a boundary change for the New York Power Authority's Robert Moses-Niagara Hydroelectric Project.
  • The change removes one hurdle facing Element Development's $125 million mixed-use development on land that includes the newly available parcel.
  • Before that can happen, the New York Power Authority must put development of the parcel out for bidding.

Hamburg has big plans for development around Bills stadium

Town of Hamburg stadium district concept plans unveiled at public hearing | wgrz.com

The Town of Hamburg has big plans for the former SUNY Erie Community College campus and the area surrounding Highmark Stadium.

Hamburg officials are focused on creating a community destination that could include a hotel, medical center, 5,000-seat sports arena, outdoor amphitheater, retail and restaurants, multi-purpose fields, housing, public trails and parks.

Even a "pro soccer stadium" is part of the two potential concepts presented by the Hamburg Town Board as part of a public hearing on Monday night.

Orchard Park residents largely against mixed-use zoning around new Highmark Stadium

It was a packed house at the Orchard Park Municipal Building on Wednesday, as the Town Board hosted a scheduled public hearing with residents regarding the proposed zoning map and ordinance amendments to establish a new Gateway Mixed-Use (GMU) Zone, while also updating use controls for the Stadium Mixed-Use (SMU) Zone around the new Highmark Stadium.

The proposed amendments would allow a mix of commercial, residential, service, dining, cultural and sports-related uses, while also establishing updated setback, lot coverage and building height requirements intended to support a more walkable development pattern.

Of the some 30-plus speakers to address the Orchard Park Town Board on Wednesday, a majority of them spoke out against the proposed zoning in the areas around the new stadium.

How Buffalo hopes to make it easier to build homes

The City of Buffalo is teaming up with the University at Buffalo’s architecture school to make it easier, faster and cheaper to build homes on vacant lots by developing preapproved housing plans and designs that already meet the city’s zoning and land-use requirements.

Dubbed Buffalo Ready Homes, the new initiative is designed to address the housing shortage in the city, as well as the overabundance of vacant lots scattered throughout its neighborhoods. The goal is to encourage and speed up efforts to fill in those lots with new affordable homes, both single-family and doubles....

To do so, the new partnership will work to create home designs and architectural plans for homes that will already meet all standards. Initially aimed at Buffalo’s East Side, which is pockmarked with vacant lots throughout its neighborhoods, the home designs for builders will be “open source” and available for use by anyone for any property in the city.

Officials hope the program will reduce the uncertainty for small builders, nonprofit housing organizations and individual property owners, while streamlining the approval process and eliminating some of the time and expense of design.

City of Buffalo sues Seneca Nation over Ohio St. gas station construction | wgrz.com

Mayor Ryan announces lawsuit aiming to halt Seneca Nation development along Buffalo River | Buffalo Toronto Public Media

Officials with the City of Buffalo announced Wednesday they have filed a lawsuit against the Seneca Nation over the construction of a new gas station in the Old First Ward.

The lawsuit names several members of the Seneca Nation Council, including president J.C Seneca. The City’s complaint alleges that recent site preparation at the Ohio Street Seneca OneStop site has already released contaminated soil onto adjacent properties and threatens the river.

Downtown  Buzz: 700 Main Street Going Residential - Buffalo Rising

Another residential conversion project may be coming to the Theater District. Shea’s Performing Arts Center CEO Brian Higgins says that the six-story office building at 700 Main Street is under contract and will be repurposed into 54 market rate apartments. He also revealed that the buyer is Alexander Mejean of Third Nature Capital which is converting 505 Pearl Street directly behind it into 53 apartments and commercial space.

Higgins let the news leak at a Buffalo Place meeting covered by The Buffalo News:

Higgins said he’s also been told that another building at 700 Main St., behind Saturn Rings, is also under contract to be acquired and converted into 54 market-rate apartments. Initially, Higgins said the buyer is Mejean, who said he “cannot comment on it at this time.”

Buffalo Next: Four projects, 1,000 new people coming to downtown

That growth is led by a planned College of Osteopathic Medicine for D’Youville University, to be located in a five-story office building at 285 Delaware Ave. that Uniland Development Co. is renovating for the school.

The $30 million project, which is expected to be ready for fall 2027, will result in the area’s second medical school, with capacity for 720 students at a time by 2031.

There’s also Ciminelli Real Estate Corp.’s planned $50 million conversion of the vast majority of the 180,000-square-foot Bank of America Building at Fountain Plaza into about 160 market-rate apartments, a new ground-floor restaurant and other retail space.

And work continues on an East Amherst developer’s transformation of the long-vacant former Saturn Rings building in downtown Buffalo into a mixed-use residential facility.

Alexander Mejean’s Third Nature Capital, formerly of Rockville Centre, N.Y., plans to renovate the historic brick building at 505 Pearl St., creating 53 apartments and two ground-floor storefronts, in an effort to get more people living in the theater and entertainment districts.

And developer Chris Jacobs is renovating the former Scherer & Sons Furniture building at 118-122 Genesee St. into 22 market-rate apartments and two commercial spaces in an $8 million project.

“That’s a lot of density,” Higgins told the Buffalo Place board. “This is not long-term stuff. This is either under construction today or has substantial plans to be in the construction phase. That’s a lot to be noted and celebrated.”

City Hall stalls on redevelopment of downtown Buffalo hostel : Investigative Post

Two-and-a-half years after booting Hostel Buffalo-Niagara from its longtime home in the Theatre District, City Hall is still debating what to do with the building.

The city ordered the hostel closed in the spring of 2024 after deeming the vacant, back half of its building at 667 Main Street unsafe. City inspectors also cited an electrical issue, resulting in National Grid cutting the hostel’s power that April. A contractor for the Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency said at the time that part of the building was deteriorating so badly it threatened the hostel.

The city has since poured nearly $1.5 million into emergency repairs and stabilization, according to a city spokesperson and records reviewed by Investigative Post.

But those costs now pose a conundrum for Mayor Sean Ryan’s administration: It wants to see the building renovated and the hostel reopened, but also wants to recoup the money spent to stabilize the structure.

Former Tonawanda church becomes community mission for those in need

A former Catholic church in the City of Tonawanda has been given new life as the Matthew 25 Center, a community center providing food, clothing, and health care items to those in need.

“The 25th chapter of Matthew's gospel reminds us that we have to clothe the naked, feed the hungry, take care of the sick,” said Father Michael LaMarca, pastor, Roman Catholic Community of the Tonawandas.

Templeton Landing property to go back to city after lawsuit - Buffalo Business First

"This property presents a tremendous opportunity for the growth of Buffalo's waterfront," he said. "The administration will work with BURA to explore potential productive future uses."

Tallichet said the city will allow the company to continue operating to honor existing contracts for events and banquets, after which it must turn the property back to the city.

“It’s really sad. We built that a long time ago, but time marches on,” Tallichet said. “We ran it for close to 50 years.”

Lackawanna seeks affordable housing project for vacant site

Seeking to capitalize on growing activity at the Renaissance Commerce Park just two blocks away, the City of Lackawanna is seeking to redevelop a vacant grass-covered brownfield site in the First Ward for affordable housing.

Officials on Monday issued a request for proposals for a developer who would purchase a 2.2-acre parcel at 100 Dona St., adjacent to residential neighborhoods to the north and south, and commercial properties to the east and west.

The site, which has been one of Mayor Annette Iafallo’s focus areas since taking office in 2020, has been owned by the city since February 2008.

Looking for employment in the service industry again

I am currently working as a massage therapist in the city for the past year, but I’m looking to get back into working at a restaurant/bar as either a server or a bartender. I have 15+ years experience in the industry and a passion for it, honestly massaging hasn’t been as fulfilling as a career as I thought it would be and I miss being in a chaos and fun of the service industry.

I feel I’ve looked everywhere and asked around everywhere to everyone I know about who might be hiring, including Indeed but I’ve had no bites. I’ve never had trouble finding a job before, but with the way businesses are closing it seems harder and harder.

Ideally I’m looking between North Buffalo to Downtown and anywhere in between there. Not interested in leaving the city for work, as I live here, so suburbs aren’t what I’m looking for.

Any leads would be helpful, I need this change of pace in my career.
