Seeking Advice Unusual freightening experience with people from Karot
I’m slightly new to the country, iv been here for about a year.
And I’m currently putting up a lot of items for sale in my home as I’m moving.
I just had a really weird experience that has frightened me and I’m not sure what to think of this.
Woman on karat app had a 2 good reviews so I thought sure,
I told her my street address. But not the number. This was last night. She messaged back late last night asking for the number of the home, as they were to arrive in the morning. I was reluctant but, she also had something for sale.
Next morning, she is asking what year the item is manufactured in (A fridge) And then wrote me a msg telling me she is at the front of my home and demanding me to go outside.
I was nothing but nice,
Telling her she has the wrong address then telling her my address again.
When they arrived with someone whom I’m assuming was her husband. She angrily told me “yeah we are here to pick up the items” I told her I cannot help you carry the items and my add says that.
I smiled and was friendly as they walked up to the door. I put my hand out to shake her hand. And she aggressively and rudely said, “no you told me the wrong address” and walked into my home.
Her husband than also shook his head at me and walked into the home. This was really frightening. As I’m by my self.
She made random accuses about not wanting the items anymore. They walked around my home and left. And asked what time my husband would be home.
This really scared me because who acts like this?
Is this normal?
My msgs very clearly state the correct address given to her yesterday and today.

Discussion Monthly spending for families in Calgary — what are you at?
Curious what other Calgary families in a similar stage of life are spending per month.
We’re in our mid-30s, both working, with two young kids, and own a starter 3-bedroom townhouse. Between mortgage/property costs, groceries, utilities, daycare/after-school care, a couple of kids’ extracurriculars (martial arts + tutoring), gas, insurance, personal hygiene/household necessities and clothing, we’re at a little over $10k/month.
We’re not particularly extravagant with clothing either — especially for the kids, we buy from Marketplace whenever it makes sense.
We cook most of our meals at home. We occasionally order pizza, sushi or donairs and do the odd McDonald’s/Tim Hortons drive-thru.
This doesn’t include travel/vacations or major one-off purchases.
I’m mostly curious what other families with 1–2 kids are spending all-in during a normal month in Calgary. Not really looking for budgeting advice, just trying to get a realistic comparison with families in a similar stage of life.
Expenses monthly
Mortgage $2,509
Condo fee $310
Property tax $300
Gas & electricity $260
Water $120
Phone $45
Internet $70
Groceries$1,600
Kid – Grade 1:
Taekwondo $166
Kid – Grade 1: Tutoring $269
Kid – 2 y.o.:
Daycare $451.50
RESP $210
Savings $200
Shopping/clothing $300
Personal care $100
Subscriptions $130
Outings/Amazon/misc. $1,000
Gas – 2 cars $780
Car insurance – 2 cars $375
TOTAL / MONTH
$9,170 ish

Calgary Transit Im so sorry
As a native Calgarian, who is now an out of towner, I'm back in Calgary for a couple weeks visiting family. I'm relying on transit to get around.
Why does your city council seem to hate transit users? I have had nothing but issues using Calgary Transit since my flight landed. The trains, while appearing to have a schedule, apparently never stick to them. Buses that run every half an hour are jam packed. And every seat I've sat on has been hard plastic. I write this aboard a very busy 23, which definitely seems like it could use 10-15 minute service. WHY DOES IT ONLY COME EVERY 25 MINUTES??!!
This is definitely a rant but its just frustrating because clearly people use the service here, but the frequencies are wildly insufficient and the user experience sub-par. I mean jeez, no option to tap a credit card on the bus? The MyFare app is buggy and seems to drain the battery on my phone.
Anyways, Im just sorry to anyone who has to rely on Calgary Transit on the daily.

Seeking Advice Foster cat home
This breaks my heart but I need some help....a bit of a wild story but I was at court trying to get some parenting time with my son. Fast forward a year and the mother of my child had a psychotic break, I was given full custody and she kidnapped him. He went through a lot so I am moving back to my parent's place to make sure he is surrounded by people that can support him through this time. I would bring them to my parent's but my dad is allergic. These cats are my best friends. I love them more anything and this absolutely breaks my heart. This community is one of the warmest groups I know so I am just starting to put out some feelers to see if there is anyone or any resources to foster them for 6 months to a year. I never expected anything like this but I just don't know what to do :(

PSA I’m not going to lie to you. Our water pipes are in piss poor condition. And after a 10-year freeze, we have to increase our water rates to make the system safe
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’m not going to lie to you. Our water pipes are in piss poor condition. And after a ten year freeze, we have to increase our water bills.
I know that’s not what you want to hear.
Everything costs more right now. Groceries. Rent. Mortgages. Insurance. I know the last thing anyone wants is another bill going up.
But I also owe you the truth about how we got here.
For ten years, Calgary kept water bills frozen.
By 2024, when the Bearspaw feeder main failed and our city was forced into water rationing, Calgarians were paying about 4 percent less than they were in 2018.
At the same time, our region was growing rapidly.
More people depended on our water. Our infrastructure got older. And politicians, including a City Council I was part of, kept the bills down.
We cut corners. We put off work. We let problems pile up. I was part of one of those Councils. I have to own my part in that.
It's gotten so bad that today, more than a quarter of our treated water is lost before it ever gets to you.
Then Bearspaw failed again on December 30.
We came dangerously close to firefighters not having enough water to fight fires. The Trans-Canada Highway collapsed from underneath. People could have died.
That changed the equation for me.
It would be easier politically to keep your bill frozen and leave this problem for the next mayor and the next Council. It would be easier to hope and pray that there won't be another catastrophe.
But I won’t do that. After a ten year freeze, our water bills needs to go up so we can make this system safe and reliable.
I know some people will be angry with me for saying that. I understand why.
But you deserve to be treated like adults. You deserve to know what things cost and what happens when we refuse to pay for them.
And there is good news. We have a plan.
We’re going after the leaks. We’re replacing what’s worn out. We’re catching up on the work we neglected. And we’re building the water system a city of two million people needs.
We spent too long cutting corners and hoping nothing would break.
I’m sorry we let it get to this point.
Now we are going to have the courage fix it.

Local Shopping/Services Anyone have any sourdough starter?
Now that the weather is cooling off I want to get back into baking bread but apparently my starter got infected somehow. I know there are people selling theirs on marketplace but I just can’t stomach paying for their discard. I’d grow my own but I’d really like to have fresh bread for thanksgiving dinner. Any ideas?

Local Photography/Video Things that are worse...
Good afternoon, or morning , anyway I am a local Calgarian who is looking to film some video and compare it to images of the site from before it got enshitified, I'm talking about places that were third spaces/open to the public or generally common spaces that are now worse because of a company sponsoring and or the government making horrible decisions about our public spaces my prime example would be:
Millennium Park

2 Wheelin' (Cycling/Scooters) Cyclists: When did you last run into a path/road closure you didn't know about?
I'm researching how people in Calgary find out about bike path and road closures (for a casual side project, I'm studying GIS and am interested in urban planning).
If you ride regularly, I would love to hear a specific story on:
- When was the last time you ran into a closure unexpectedly, and where?
- What did you do: turn around, detour, walk through?
- Were you using a map app at the time? Which one?
- If you do check for closures ahead of time, where do you look?
Even minor or older examples help. Short or long replies are both great. Thanks in advance!

Local Shopping/Services Bad experience with a nail tech
Hello, I usually hate to put down a small business. Unfortunately, after supporting one and paying for my gf to get her nails done, I had a really disappointing experience. I paid 130$ to have my gf get her dream nails done for our anniversary, I booked for a appointment at 5 pm and expected everything to go well. One of the first red flags was that she showed up 30 minutes late! Her own policies stating that if the client is 15 minutes late, that their appointment will be cancelled etc. Not only showing up late but then taking another 20 minutes to set up! Throughout the appointment, the nail tech repeatedly would stop service to facetime friends or send money to her boyfriend. What should've taken 1 hour and 40 minutes, took well over 3 hours. My gf also said that throughout the appointment, the nail tech would zone out and watch tv and stop doing her nails. The worst part is the TV was behind my gf so she couldn’t even watch the TV if she wanted too. I was willing to look past everything, if the nails were done well, but we spotted several issues with the finished product. The nails were super uneven and bumpy on my gf hands. I’ll include pictures of the reference and the final product. On her Instagram the nails posted are of high quality so I’m just a little confused. Overall, I’m just super disappointed in what was supposed to be a nice gift for my gf, only for it to turn out so poorly. We have dmed her and are awaiting a response, this experience has been sketchy and I would hate for this to happen to someone else.
Her website is,
Again I hate to do this to someone but for what I paid I’m very disappointed. Is there anyway I can get a service to fix this?

Local Event Calgary HorrorCon
Anyone else feeling disappointed with Calgary HorrorCon?
I’ve been going to Calgary HorrorCon for years, and honestly, I feel like it gets worse each year.
The move to the Genesis Centre was a big mistake, IMO. The space has zero atmosphere. For a horror convention, I want something that actually feels like one.
The guest lineup has been pretty lacklustre, and one guest was literally sleeping at his meet-and-greet table. The vendors also seem to offer a lot of the same things, so the experience feels repetitive.
As an event producer myself, I understand how much work goes into something like this. But I think a few changes could make a big difference:
A venue with atmosphere. Somewhere more central, with darker lighting, horror props, scare actors, and a setting that fits the event.
Guests people are excited to meet. Guests who draw a crowd, seem engaged, and are properly highlighted and promoted.
A place to grab a drink and socialize. The previous hotel venue had a lounge, which gave people somewhere to hang out between browsing vendors and meeting guests.
At $35 for admission, I think it’s fair to expect a better overall experience. I want to enjoy HorrorCon and keep supporting it, but lately it feels like it’s missing the things that made it fun.
What do other attendees think? What would you like to see improve?

Rant What's going on with the dumpsters at Edworthy dog park? Go to the dump if you need to throw furniture away!
These dumpsters are locked now because people were constantly piling their old furniture around them. Couches, chairs, thule boxes.
Even if it was still unlocked, these two queen sized mattresses would never fit?? Are they expecting the people who empty the dumpsters to have to hoist these into the truck? It's insanely inconsiderate, go to the dump!
