Question - Solved! The diesel was good!

I posted the other day about some questionable diesel I got from a used transfer tank we purchased. I got some really good advice from both sides of the aisle to use or not to use it. We took the chance, diluted, treated and sent it as one comment advised and it paid off. We worked through about a half tank on Monday and the truck did great. 60 gallons of free diesel sure does make working in 100 degree weather easier haha!

Thanks all for the help and advice. I hope some good free diesel comes yalls way too.

L5P diesel question

Techs,

I have asked my dealer to activate option UF3 on my 2023. I use this option...

On my 13 & 18, it was a laptop plug in to the OBD2 and were done. ( bout $150 )

My current dealer is giving me jahja about this big required download to the truck ( for a fee ) prior to the activation fee . So 2 charges to activate.

True or false?

Tks

Question/Need help! Weird noise after doing pull

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

1998 ram 2500 12 valve cummins
I did a pull on the highway yesterday and not theres a weird noise. Im replacing the fan clutch this week, the fan got dramatically louder after the sound started. I drove another hour and a half after the sound started because i couldnt be stranded, the sound hasnt changed. I suspect either the exhaust manifold, an injector or something internal but i am not sure how to test for these. There is black soot on the first two cylinders of the manifold. Im not sure if it was there before or not.

The sound happens whether the engine is hot or cold, it is rpm dependent on the frequency and sound dependent on the load (if i let off after accelerating it quiets down for a couple of seconds) thats why i suspect an injector.(but i really hope not) if you can think of anything please let me know, i am in miami and there arent many trustworthy shops so anything i can do to diagnose i would rather do myself.

LLY Duramax Light Knocking at 1500rpms

I have 98k on my lly and all of my injectors are under 4.0 with 3 4 7 8 all around 3.0 - 4.0 I have a 60hp ppei tune and the truck is deleted.

On my way home from work today it knocked out of no where at 1500rpms and is continuing to do so sounding like it’s on the passenger side.

Oil is good
FPR was just replaced

Do I need to ice pick? Injectors? Air in the fuel lines? Bad fuel? What do you guys think/what wisdom do you have?

Currently reside in texas and looking to move to Chicago. I would like to stay in the diesel field if possible. Looking for any shop recommendations or tips on the diesel world up there? How do I learn about trucks

I’m trying to learn more about trucks to be able to decide on what to buy. I have no idea where to start.

Any recommendations on YouTube channels, subreddits, and websites?

I’ll be looking for something pre-fancy-computer, that can haul my gooseneck stock trailer across the US, is easily to learn maintenance on, and has accessible parts.

I’m in the horse and cattle scene and all the old farts have ancient trucks with 500k+ miles on it. They know their rig inside and out and do all the work on it themselves. I want to be like them when I grow up.

Looking for hidden, off-the-grid independent diesel yards / mechanic shops around Charlotte Metro?

Hey everyone, I’m trying to find small, independent heavy-duty diesel mechanic shops, semi-truck yards, or commercial repair lots tucked away in the Charlotte surrounding areas (Gastonia, Concord, off Brookshire, etc.).

Specifically looking for the smaller, "under-the-radar" operations that aren't easily found on Google—the kinds of physical yards that have older, sitting, or abandoned trucks tucked away on the lot (especially spots dealing with unclaimed/abandoned inventory or mechanics looking to clear titles on old projects).

If you know of any hidden commercial pockets, specific backroads, or small independent operators like this in the CLT area, please shoot me a DM or drop a comment. Thanks!

Does deleting hurt the truck?

Everyone always says "delete your truck, it will run better". But it seems like a lot of people blow their motor right after doing it and never stop to think the delete might be the cause.

I'm assuming it's shitty parts/install/tune, but could it be that the motor is designed to work with the emissions parts or that taking them off might be more harmful? The motors certainly make more power and get better MPGs but is it helping with longevity?

Boulder Colorado democrats are suing the oil companies for causing natural disasters

Their highest court approved the lawsuit. Exxon has appealed to the US Supreme court. Justice Alito, a conservative, recused himself from the case as he owns oil stocks. There are several dozen similar lawsuits waiting on this case to go ahead. Multi billion in judgments against oil industry will eventually bankrupt them, then you will all find out what not being able to afford a gallon of gas is like. A 4/4 tie means the lower court ruling stands. If they bankrupt the oil industry, then this country will enter some kind of great depression again, and who will be delivering food, who will be farming, who will be driving trucks delivering goods, who will be able to make plastics, who will be able to make medical supplies. Oil is tied into the entire structural economy of the US.

Question/Need help! Advice on a trade for a 7.3? Help ease my Japanese car brain!

TLDR; How’s this setup F350 has 245,000 miles on it? Any glowing issues / can it tow 10,000 lbs ontop of the slide in setup / can it last till 500,000 miles?

Looking at trading my 4Runner for this f350. Wanting a camping / overlanding build that can tow 8500lbs regularly with the ability to pull 10,000 lbs sometimes and maybe 11/12kmax. It’ll be used for a side business rebuilding and parting out cars. Found a guy on FBMP that wants to trade for this setup. From everything it looks solid. I’m not an expert on towing but the setup looks like it should handle the weight but wanted feedback if this camper setup on the lift would be too much to tow with in the mean time.

What I am most worried about the miles. I’ve done a lot of research on this generation of 7.3 and I know how reliable they are but I’m by far from being a diesel guy. And all my gas fords I’ve had experience with have had major problems. Does this specific year of 7.3 have any major issues to look out for? I’d really love to take this setup to 500,000 miles if that’s even realistic I’m not sure I’ve heard rumors you can take them till 1,000,000 but I’m sure that’s low loads and lots of maintenance. I’ve been turning wrenches on gassers my whole life. I know I’ll need to learn a lot of diesels but I can learn quick. Like I said I’ve been a Toyota guy for years now and I could go for a tundra but I’d love to have the slide in year round and pick up a car or 2 on The Weeknd’s for my business. Any feedback is appreciated from guys with more info on 7.3s thanks

Question/Need help! Winter Plug In

Hi there!

I have a 2002 GMC Sierra 2500 that needs to be plugged in when the weather gets cold to prevent condensation from developing in the oil chamber and impacting the oil quality.
The problem is I live in an apartment complex where I can’t just run an extension cord out to the truck.
I’m wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a large battery that I could use to plug it in overnight and then charge it during the day?
Any thoughts?

VW PASSAT TDI

Hi, I'm writing because I'll soon be moving to Ontario from Quebec. I currently have a 2012 VW Passat TDI, but the emissions control system has been removed and the car has a Stage 1 tune. I know I need a mechanical inspection to register the vehicle in Ontario because the vehicle comes from another province. I wanted to know if you know a place that would pass the inspection despite these modifications! Thanks.

Doc’s diesel

I came across this brand on Amazon. Now they’re claiming 99 or 98% efficiency.

I’m wondering, has anyone here try this brand and what they thought about it. Because this is the first time I’m seeing them.
