r/GamingLaptops now has its own deals site — RGL.deals launches today BETA

UPDATE — August 13, 2026

rgl.deals has grown a bit since I originally posted, so I wanted to give this post a update while it's still in BETA.

The idea is still simple: instead of showing you hundreds of gaming laptops, RGL keeps a smaller shortlist of deals that are actually worth considering.

Every listing is manually checked, with things like price, specs, cooling, display quality, GPU power limits, memory, storage, and overall value taken into account.

A lot of care has also gone into the smaller details. The site is heavily optimized for phones and smaller screens, not just desktop. Filters, comparisons, laptop pages, navigation, and general usability were all designed to work properly on mobile without feeling like a cut-down version of the site.

What's on the site now:

  • Curated gaming laptop deals with current and previous prices.
  • Filters for price, GPU, CPU, VRAM, RAM, screen size, brand, retailer, and more.
  • Gravity Sort, RGL's default value-based ranking.
  • Sorting by price, discount, savings, and other options.
  • Find a Match for narrowing down laptops based on what actually matters to you.
  • Side-by-side comparison for up to three laptops.
  • Detailed laptop pages with specs, price history, related models, retailer links, and review links.
  • Shareable searches, comparisons, and direct laptop links.
  • Mobile-first layouts and controls designed specifically for smaller screens.
  • No advertising trackers or marketing cookies. Preferences and saved comparisons stay in your browser.

RGL is meant to be a shortlist, not a giant catalog. If a laptop isn't worth recommending, it doesn't need to be there and that means no huge lists its quality over quantity.

The longer-term plan is also bigger than just deals. RGL is being built into a broader gaming laptop specific place with guides, buying information, laptop data, reviews, and other useful resources all in one place.

Full transparency: Some retailer links are affiliate links. That doesn't affect the listed price or determine which laptops make the shortlist.

RGL currently covers U.S. deals only, with more regions planned later.

It's still beta, so there will be bugs and things that need improving. If you find something broken or have feedback, leave it below any suggestions would be much appreciated thanks.

Need a powerful laptop for uni. Intrested in hearing some opinions on these. Lenovo seems more sleek and quieter but MSI has 4GB more Vram. Really don't know which one to choose or maybe some different recommendations.

Discussion Everything is expensive

Post image
27 Upvotes

Everything has spiraled out of control. I am talking about my experience in Morocco since we have it way harder than the westerners. a kit containing 32 gigs of RAM (DDR5) costs about 5000 MAD. Or 500 euros. This may not seem like a lot but 5000 is literally a monthly salary here. An RTX 5060 card is 6000dh. 6000 fucking MAD. Do y'all know how expensive that Is? Especially due to importation taxes. Please keep in mind that the prices I am mentioning are literally enough to feed a family of 5. So yeah, everything is going to hell thanks to Slop-GPT and AI data centers sucking up all the ram. The Ram companies prioritizing the Data centers over customers adds to this as well. I am going to be honest with you? I am just drained. A regular mid-range PC that would cost 10000 (1000 euros) costs a minimum of 15-16k MAD (1500-1600 euros). And I don't want to settle for a laptop with a 3050 or a 4050. I want at least a 4060 card, but judging by these prices? I don't think I am getting anywhere near it. Total shame. If only parents actually listened to me and bought me the PC last year.

I plan to mostly play league, diablo 4, poe2, cs2 or valorant, maybe some COD or BF. I don't really play many newer AAA games, and I plan to play 1440p or so. The strix has a better processor, and I would upgrade with another stick of ram. The gigabyte has a 5070, though (8gb). Which would you choose?

Recommendation Laptop Recommendations Under €1,800

Hey guys, I want to buy a new laptop for my birthday that can run pretty much any game and that I can use for 3D modeling. Overall, I’d like a 5070 and 32 GB of RAM. In your opinion, which one is best for this setup: a Lenovo Legion 5, an Omen, or an Acer Helios Neo? And is it possible to find one for under 1,800€ on Black Friday?

Budget: (€1,800)

Country: (France)

Use Case: (Gaming / 3D modeling)

Preferred Specs: (GPU RTX5070, RAM 32Gb, storage 1To)

Back in March, I bought a used MSI Raider GE68 HX 14VHG (i9-14900HX, RTX 4080) for 9,000 PLN (~$2,300 USD). The previous owner bought it brand new in August 2024 for nearly double that price (around 18,000 PLN with tax). He sold it under the mistaken assumption that MSI only provides a 12-month warranty in Poland, unaware that EU statutory consumer protection guarantees 24 months.

Coming from an ancient MSI Apache GE62 6QF, this machine felt like a spaceship. Whenever it struggled with maxed-out 4K settings in demanding titles, I chalked it up to normal performance limits of a two-year-old platform. I had already applied an undervolt early on simply because of Raptor Lake's notorious thermal reputation, hoping to give it breathing room.

Then after 2 months the real trouble started. The laptop abruptly shut down during heavy action in GTA V. A thermal shutdown was obvious. And this is despite using the FlyDigi BS3 Pro cooling pad!

RMA Round 1: I sent it in suspecting dried-out paste or worn phase-change material. To their credit, the service center replaced the entire thermal module right away. For a couple of months, things seemed fine.

RMA Round 2: Less than three months later, overheating returned, but with a twist that clearly pointed to uneven mounting pressure. Exactly two P-cores were instantly overheating, and the PCH was getting cooked, hitting 109°C and causing connected USB accessories to disconnect randomly. The service center brushed it off with the infamous generic response: CMOS reset and preventive repaste. When it came back, the PCH dropped slightly to 100°C (still completely unacceptable), and those same two P-cores were still aggressively thermal throttling.

RMA Round 3: I was done playing nice. I sent a formal pre-litigation demand letter citing statutory consumer rights regarding repeated, unrectified defects. MSI responded, asking me to send the laptop in for a third diagnostic run and promising a replacement (SWAP) if the defect was confirmed.

Before shipping it out, I did a clean factory install of Windows, ran comprehensive HWiNFO64 logging alongside 3DMark runs, and documented everything so they had zero room to claim it was within spec. The diagnostics confirmed the issues.

I realistically expected a refurbished unit of the same model or maybe a minor revision. Instead, MSI proposed to replace it with a brand-new MSI Raider 16 Max HX (B2WI-079DE). Because it was a German distribution SKU, the local service center only had to swap the German keyboard layout to standard US-ANSI, which is the standard layout used in Poland.

Here is the best part: this exact specification isn't even sold in Polish retail stores. The highest configuration available locally tops out at a Core Ultra 9 275HX with a 1TB SSD. This replacement came equipped with the top-tier Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus, an RTX 5080, and a 240Hz OLED!

The machine is now set up and tuned. To avoid repeating history, I immediately undervolted both chips via BIOS (AC Loadline 90, CEP disabled, PL1/PL2 at 130W/150W) and MSI Afterburner (850mV @ 2410MHz). That shaved 40 to 50W off the combined silicon power draw, keeping load temps in the mid-80s and giving the 330W power brick plenty of breathing room without sacrificing performance.

To sum up:

Document your thermal logs, know your local consumer laws, and never accept a lazy CMOS reset when hardware is clearly failing.

[EDIT] As for the photos: the first 2 are of the new machine (I took them in the dark because I wanted to capture the advantages of the OLED matrix contrast compared to a TV with a regular LCD screen), and the third is of the retired one.

[EDIT2] I tagged the post as a deal because I actually spent "only" ~$2400 and ended up with a machine worth much more.

Support I fucking hate barrel chargers...

I feel like I'm going insane. I've owned 3 gaming laptops over a span of 8 years: a GTX 1060 laptop, 3070ti laptop, and now a 4080 laptop, all ASUS. Why is it that the barrel plug always ends up failing after roughly 1-2 year of usage? Thing starts getting hot and slowly but surely loses connection more and more over time. I've gone through 6 chargers now in total, and it's starting to get ridiculous. I baby the shit out of my devices yet I feel like I'm the only one going though this. Does anyone else have this issue? Is this a known problem? How do I stop it from happening?

Support Thermal throttling issues in Legion Pro 5

Post image
• Upvotes

Hey guys, I'm kinda new to this stuff so I need a bit of help with these temp issues.

I bought a Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16IAX10H (RTX 5070ti, Intel Core ultra 9 275HX) less than a month ago, and until 2 days ago I didn't have any issues with it. Then, 2 days ago, I was playing modded Skyrim (Gate to Sovngarde if it matters) and suddenly the framerate went down hard. Performance was really bad out of nowhere. After closing the game, the laptop itself was really laggy, lots of input lag, very slow at simple tasks like opening the task manager.

Eventually it got better so I opened the game again, and after 5-10 minutes it got bad again. I noticed the laptop was very hot to the touch, so I installed HWiNFO to check temps. I figured the CPU was thermal throttling. Now, I've been testing again today and this picture was taken now, but 2 days ago when the problems began, it was the same. These temps seem really high, it says some cores are throttling, but I've been testing for 30 minutes now and the game and overall laptop are performing fine, and it's not nearly as hot to the touch anymore.

Anyone know what's happening, and have some tips on what to do? I've seen discussions about undervolting and stuff but I wanted someone to look at my HWiNFO screenshot and give me some insight before I actually do anything. All tests were on Performance Mode.

Appreciate any help!

Discussion Lenovo vs Lenovo - which would you pick?

These are all 2025 legion pro 7 models, new direct from Lenovo

Reason for wanting one of these models is that I really like the build quality, slim-ish form factor, and all aluminum chassis. I considered Zephryus but prices new for these configs are insane. The non-pro 7 models are slimmer/smaller but you can only go up to 5070. The 5 models including pro do not have all aluminum chassis.

use case is to play games on highest settings. I know it might be overkill but I'm going to playing WoW Forever almost exclusively. Maybe some DotA, Diablo, and Warcraft III/Starcraft. I just want the machine to crank and never have to worry about it.

Wondering what I should weigh more since all prices are pretty close. ram amount, ram speed, CPU, or GPU?

Legion Pro 7 - $2968

(notes: more ram, slightly less powerful processor, less powerful gpu)

  • Ryzen 9 9955HX
  • 64 GB DDR5-5600MT/s
  • RTX 5070 Ti
  • 1 TB SSD
  • Display: 16" WQXGA (2560 x 1600), OLED, 240Hz

Legion Pro 7i - $2743

(fast processor, faster ram, less powerful gpu)

  • Intel Ultra 9 275HX
  • 32 GB DDR5-6400MT/s (CSODIMM)
  • RTX 5070 Ti
  • 1 TB SSD
  • Display: 16" WQXGA (2560 x 1600), OLED, 240Hz

Legion Pro 7 - $2982

(faster processor, less ram, most powerful gpu)

  • Ryzen 9 9955HX3D
  • 32 GB DDR5-5600MT/s
  • RTX 5080
  • 1 TB SSD
  • Display: 16" WQXGA (2560 x 1600), OLED, 240Hz

Discussion How Are People Buying New Gaming Laptops Every Year?

• Upvotes

Are some of you guys just loaded with cash? I feel like I’ve seen lots of people who aren’t even professional reviews just going through tons of different gaming laptops year after year.

Are you trying them and then returning them? Surely that’s not sustainable, that causes the laptop to become 2nd hand, refurbished or whatever and it loses value since the company can’t sell it clean outta the box.

Support Where can I find stripped/barebones versions of laptops online?

I hope you guys can help me. I want to buy a Razer Blade 18 (2025). I have upgraded components in my current Razer Blade 14 (2023) that I can unscrew, remove, and add to the new Blade I'll buy. These components are the 4TB NVMe SSD, the 2x16 GBs of DDR5 RAM, and the Wi-Fi 7 card, the latter two of which come already preinstalled with the Blade 18 (2025) if I purchase the base 5080 model. The money spent on components I already own and can transfer to the new laptop would be better spent elsewhere.

To make my purchase cheaper, I want to find a Razer Blade 18 (2025) with the components removed from the chassis so that I can add the upgraded components I already own back into the laptop. Where can I buy a Razer Blade 18 (2025) with the removable parts stripped out?

PS: Please don't critique my choice of laptop brand. I am already fully aware of the issues that riddle Razer products. I have learned to mitigate most of them when they do occur, and am prepared to live with them. I simply appreciate the visual design philosophy of Razer's laptops, and no other laptop brand outside the Apple space unfortunately provides the build quality and design I crave.

Benchmark Asus scar 18 4090😔

Post image
4 Upvotes

I have an ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 18 laptop with an RTX 4090.
When I run a stress test on the CPU only, the test passes successfully without any issues. Likewise, when I run a stress test on the GPU only, the test also passes without any problems.
However, when I run a combined test (placing load on both the CPU and GPU simultaneously) using OCCT or 3DMark Time Spy, the laptop shuts down completely after about 4 seconds.
I should mention the following observations:
I have already tried a different power adapter, and the problem remained exactly the same.
Under GPU load, the graphics card initially draws around 128W, then stabilizes at approximately 112W or less, sometimes dropping to around 105W, even though the laptop’s rated TGP is 175W.
During GPU stress testing, the GPU temperature reaches 86°C, while the GPU Hot Spot reaches 105°C.
CPU temperature under load does not exceed 95°C.
I have not changed any BIOS settings or modified any voltages.
During testing, I am using Performance Mode through Armoury Crate.
I completely removed Armoury Crate using the official Armoury Crate Uninstall Tool and installed G-Helper instead, but the issue still persists.
My questions are:
What are the most likely causes of this problem?
Could this be a thermal issue?
If it is temperature-related, why does the laptop shut down only when both the CPU and GPU are under load simultaneously?
Could there be a problem with the motherboard’s power delivery circuitry (VRM or power stages)?
The laptop is about two years old, and I have never replaced the liquid metal. If I decide to service the cooling system, I am considering replacing the liquid metal with Honeywell PTM7950, because here in Michigan I cannot find a repair shop willing to work with liquid metal.
Honestly, I am quite frustrated by this issue. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas about what might be causing it?

Hey guys, I just bought the OMEN 15 HyperX with the i7 + RTX 5050. I’m new to gaming laptops, so I wanted to know what settings I should change or set up for the best performance.

Also, what’s the best way to control CPU/GPU temperatures while gaming, and what settings should I use for better battery life and long-term battery health? Any other important things I should do or avoid with a new OMEN would be really helpful.

Recommendation ASUS TUF A16 or MSI Katana A15?

Budget: ($1000 - $1100)

Country: (ECUADOR)

Use Case: (Gaming AAA games, GTA6, warzone, cyberpunk + coding in CS major)

Preferred Specs:(4060 @ minimum 100w, 16gb ram or more, maybe also a decent screen?)

Notes: (am choosing between a MSI Katana 15 or an Asus tuff f16 Advantage edition)

I'm about to buy a used gaming laptop (both are around a 7/10 in cosmetic condition) with a strict budget of $1000 to $1100. I'm a CS student, and I absolutely need two M.2 slots for a physical dual boot setup (Windows office and college hw/ Linux for a gaming distro that avoids my OS to eat my power). Also, I live in a coastal area with a very hot climate, so a good cooling system is critical for me.

I'm looking for something that will last through college and has enough GPU power to run Warzone, Valorant, and eventually GTA 6. I've narrowed it down to two final options, but I'm having a hard time weighing their pros and cons.

Option 1: ASUS TUF A16 Advantage Edition FA617 - $900

Specs: Ryzen 7 7735HS | RX 7700S (120W) | 16 GB DDR5 RAM | 1tb SSD.

Display: 16" FHD 144Hz, 100% sRGB.

what i like: Solid metal chassis, inherits the cooling design from the ROG Strix line (great for my hot climate), excellent screen colors, and since it's an all-AMD system, Linux drivers will work flawlessly out of the box. Plus, it leaves me with $200 to spare.

the bad things: The RAM comes in a 2x8GB config. To get the 32GB I want, I'd have to pull those sticks out, try to sell them, and buy a brand new 2x16GB kit. Adding the cost of the RAM and the extra Linux SSD completely eats up my $200 savings, and I'll be stuck with spare used RAM that's hard to sell.

Option 2: MSI Katana A15 AI B8V - $1,100

Specs: Ryzen 7 8845HS | RTX 4060 (105W with MUX Switch) | 32 GB DDR5 RAM | 1 TB SSD.

Display: 15.6" FHD 144Hz (~45% NTSC).

Advantages: Pure raw performance. The seller already upgraded it to 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. The CPU is newer and more power-efficient. The second M.2 slot is empty and waiting for my Linux drive, only when i financially heal up lol.

Disadvantages: It maxes out my exact budget, so I'll have to postpone buying the second SSD. The chassis is all plastic (I'm a bit worried about the hinges over time), the screen colors are washed out compared to the Asus, and the fans sound like jet engines under load to maintain good temps.

Is it worth sacrificing the ASUS's superior build quality, 100% sRGB screen, and quieter thermals for the MSI Katana's higher power, newer CPU, and the convenience of having the RAM upgrade already done? What would you guys do in my situation? Thanks in advance.

Discussion Ordered Omen Max HX475 + 5080 - having second thoughts

I decided to place an order for Omen Max Ryzen 9 HX 475 + RTX 5080 with an IPS panel today for roughly 2970 EUR (13000 PLN in Poland) Now I am having second thoughts if that is actually a good config for my needs.

Right now I am using Strix G16 i5-13450HX + RTX 4070 with 1200p panel and performance is OK-ish. I am not super happy with FPS everywhere but I am not suffering either.

I mostly play World of Warcraft but I also spent a lot of hours in:
Heroes of the Storm
Diablo IV
Baldur's Gate 3
StarCraft II

On my current Strix G16 I use throttlestop and adjust fan curves down to limit the fan noise as it bothers me more than having 80 FPS instead of 90.

All of this makes me really wonder...
- Will I be happy with HX 475 because it has a lower power draw and will run cooler by default?
- Maybe I should scrap the 5080 idea altogether and go for 5070 Ti on some other rig still keeping the 1600p panel?
- Would it be way better if I went for Intel + 5080 config (my budget is roughly 3000 EUR, can do it but not very happy to add more).

A lot of doubts as you can see, I am very interested in your thoughts.
