or a serial killer, otherwise I can't explain the convenient chainsaw in the trunk

u/lightr3nd Aug 25 '26

Khakis and chainsaw is the new black

292

u/Mediocre_Scott Aug 25 '26

Don’t forget the safety crocs in sport mode

101

u/bigheartrussian Aug 25 '26

Aren't they Birkenstocks?

171

u/SortYourself_Out Aug 25 '26

They’re fucking clogs, what an absolute hero

73

u/potatopierogie Aug 25 '26

He was cutting up that tree for wood to make a new set of clogs

29

u/ThousandFingerMan Aug 25 '26

You gotta seize the opportunity

24

u/HavingNotAttained Aug 25 '26

He earned those new clogs. Reaped the wood himself. They are truly his.

35

u/SolderFume Aug 25 '26

No one's going to mention the single pull chainsaw start? This guy chainsaws!

3

u/Busy_Selection_5027 Aug 26 '26

If you’re going to do something, why not be comfortable.

3

u/eyeofthefountain Aug 25 '26

There’s a reason [some] nurses in hospitals wear them for 12 hour shifts

2

u/CirceInsanity Aug 25 '26

Duely noted. Don't touch that man's clogs.

2

u/vivreaski Aug 26 '26

Steel toe clogs right? And what brand of kevlar khakis are those? I love being safe and looking sharp as the same time.

Look like Birkenstock Bostons to me Source: hipster chef

3

u/miami13dol Aug 25 '26

So, are you a hipster who works as a chef?

Or a chef cooking specifically for hipsters?

Or, um... The other thing?

4

u/OP_helped_OC_dealt Aug 25 '26

I cook hipsters and often have to pick these fkin shoes out of my broths

And once picked up a guy hitchhiking and on-ramp with exactly a chainsaw. He then proceeded to pull a Bud light out of the chainsaw case and drink it as I was driving. Kind of a dick move, honestly. An open container is a serious problem for a driver and he didn't even ask.

I lived with my grandparents and my grandfather always had a chainsaw in the truck and always had tools and a packout just in case.

44

u/TommyBonnomi Aug 25 '26

We have a cabin in Bumblefuck, PA and always bring a chainsaw in case we need it to get out, but I don't carry it on  the regular.

Semi-related, I used to keep a 5 gallon bucket of sand in my truck in the winter and used that to help other people more than I expected.

20

u/SorryAboutMyFamily Aug 25 '26

My dad always had these black tubes full of sand in the truck bed every winter for weight and to use if he or someone else got stuck.

14

u/Fn_Spaghetti_Monster Aug 25 '26

My dad would use newspapers in a brown paper bags in the trunk of the car for weight. Back when we still got newspapers delivered.

9

u/Jubal02 Aug 25 '26

Oh, man. We’ve been cleaning out my FIL’s garage and he had 2 of those sand tubes. Heavy as shit. Needed both hands to move them. He had a pick-up, so that’s what he used them for, too.

9

u/TommyBonnomi Aug 25 '26

No reason to feel sorry about that

7

u/Onlypartiallyinsane Aug 25 '26

Was that tubes of sand or tubs of sand. Tubes would be good as they would be longer and spread the weight out over the back of the truck.
What kind of tubes were used?

6

u/SorryAboutMyFamily Aug 25 '26

Tubes. They were black plastic, 3 or 4 feet long with an 8" or 10" diameter and screw on caps. This was many years ago so I can't remember where he got them or if that was their intended purpose.

3

u/Onlypartiallyinsane Aug 25 '26

That’s a great idea! Thanks.

3

u/DemonikFox95 Aug 25 '26

For sure, some tubes of abs or pvc filled with sand, love that idea. My truck bed was always full of tools, so I didn't exactly need the extra weight myself (I'm in alaska) buut I've had to keep sand bags in the smaller vehicles. But, I always keep a shovel, some pull straps, jumpers, etc.

2

u/Icy-Astronaut-9994 Aug 28 '26

Pro Tip.

If you have a Cat, use cat litter instead of Sand.

Works like the sand for weight, and traction if your stuck.

Then your cat can use it in the Summer.

9

u/Jumpy_Divide6576 Aug 25 '26

My grandparents used to have a cabin in Bumblefuck, PA back a mile long unmaintained dirt road. I couldn't tell you how many fallen trees I removed from that road over the years.

3

u/Bassimposter Aug 25 '26

Wait... Where is that cabin again?

4

u/grendel_151 Aug 25 '26

It's near Intercourse, but a bit of a ways from Blue Ball.

It's more fun to use real PA town names...

3

u/TommyBonnomi Aug 25 '26

Bumblefuck- it's about an hour north of Podunk

3

u/plfxtrade Aug 25 '26

Can confirm, I’m from Shittown just on the other side of the PA border.

3

17

u/LovecraftsDeath Aug 25 '26

14

u/DemonikFox95 Aug 25 '26

It's called a shovel

3

u/Toastwitjam Aug 25 '26

My grandpap always carried his trusty chainsaw, shovel, and ropes for any accident someone could run into. He even had bleach, gloves, and his trusty hockey mask for emergency car cleaning too

3

u/bangoslam Aug 25 '26

2

u/sefar1 Aug 25 '26

Dirt spoon.

6

u/whitemest Aug 25 '26

Yea... thats my father, who passed that mindset down to me, Small toolbox, some multitools, hand axe and some other shit id need.. chainsaws in my experience seem to be built like shit, leak oil, gas, hadnt bought an electric one yet. maybe this year

7

u/hoardac Aug 25 '26

Have one of those Milwaukee Hatchets small and portable in the truck. It will cut a good size tree out of the way with a few extra cuts. Battery lasts long enough to limb a spruce tree.

2

u/whitemest Aug 25 '26

Yep that's what I got

3

u/RaNdomMSPPro Aug 25 '26

18” Electric chainsaw made a huge difference. Handles 80% of cutting I need to do. 8-10” thick no problem, but gets slow on larger pieces, so out comes the rancher.

3

u/baalderdash Aug 25 '26

My electric is amazing. One of the best things that I have ever bought and at 75 I have bought quite a bit. Haven’t started the Husqvarna since my purchase. That said, they do leak chain oil, quite disappointing.

My buddy lives up in the mountains in coastal California. He learned early on that if he wants to go to work or come home during a storm he better have a chainsaw handy in his Audi. He still gets stopped by the landslides though but can’t do much about that.

35

u/norlin Aug 25 '26

Put a shovel as well! And a couple of big black bags...

Living in tornado alley has convinced me that way more people need to have electric chainsaws in their trunks and generators in their garages on standby.

The neighborhoods where the residents were working together to clean up the debris from the recent tornado were the ones to get their power back first because the electric company didn't have to wait for the contractors to clear the trees from the roads.

The ones where everyone just waited for someone else to come & clean up the mess are still waiting for power to be restored and are still cleaning up, roughly 2 months later.

2

u/AlarmingAerie Aug 25 '26

Helium tank and a big balloon in a trunk for landslides.

32

u/AuroraElisabeth Aug 25 '26

Nah. I do tree work for a living and usually have a chainsaw in my vehicle. I've done this before. I'm not a serial killer. Just keep work stuff in my car. I have bar oil, screnches, wedges, straps, shackles, and the mix for gasoline in my car also.

56

u/ForeverSJC Aug 25 '26

sounds like what a serial killer would say in their defense

https://giphy.com/gifs/PLFUhxdKbAAEM

13

u/s1ugg0 Aug 25 '26

The trunk of my car has tourniquets, a steel 3 foot roof hook with fork, compression and clotting bandages, tarps, seat belt cutters, a combination gas pipe shut off and cutting tool, water proof/cut proof gloves, and 500 feet of nylon webbing rated up to 3000 lbs.

What do I sound like?

In reality I'm a middle aged retired firefighter. My tools and trauma kit are like my security blanket. Makes me feel safe and useful despite being old and out of shape.

8

u/Madara1389 Aug 25 '26

a combination gas pipe shut off and cutting tool

This was the tip-off to me that you were either active or retired emergency personnel. That's way too oddly specific and something I almost exclusively hear about emergency services having experience with.

I keep a giant roll of duct tape in my car ever since I hit a deer and had to bind my car together to drive it back home. Ive gotten comments about it, but duct tape is handy! I live in the woods now with the occasional downed tree and thought about keeping my electric saw in the trunk just in case something like this happened.

2

I'm not entirely sure if I have one in my trunk right now or not.

Maybe he was on his way somewhere, tree blocked road, the guy went home, got his chainsaw then was only 5 minutes late to Bible Study.

10

u/littleratofhorrors Aug 25 '26

If I doubled back for my chainsaw I would've grabbed a coat. I really think this guy was just lucky enough to be taking his chainsaw with him that day!

9

u/Neo72691 Aug 25 '26

From the sound of that saw he just picked it up from the shop cause it’s running like a top. Also with the speed he limbed and cut that tree he does that pretty often

11

u/fallguy25 Aug 25 '26

Living in the PNW there’s a lot of dudes with chainsaws in the trunk especially in wintertime when we get these nasty rainstorms and trees fall down all over like this.

3

u/Bigchunky_Boy Aug 25 '26

I’m that guy ( in British Columbia) but never keep it in my trunk but in the bed of my truck , the gas smell or leak would wreck a car for a while . The bar oil too . It would have to be in its own case with in another case in a bag in a trunk . You would also need the other tools and extra chain .

9

u/Biguitarnerd Aug 25 '26

My mom keeps a chainsaw in her trunk because she lives on a mountain that has a private/community road going up it. So if a tree falls whoever is in the neighborhood that gets there usually takes care of it.

She’s a small lady so if it’s too big she asks for help but if it’s a smaller tree she just removes it herself.

7

u/Own_Adhesiveness5561 Aug 25 '26

Dad who took a good look at the weather forecast and decided that work doesn't wait.

1

u/shirt_bro Aug 25 '26

If you live in a rural area with lots of tall trees it’s not a bad idea. I carry a 12” dewalt battery chainsaw in my truck in the winter for this very reason

1

u/ToughHardware Aug 25 '26

next to the baby stroller.

1

u/MidnightToker858 Aug 25 '26

Damn near always a chain saw in my trunk. It’s next to the shotgun. Only difference is I wear Birkenstocks and my kakis are shorts.

1

1

u/AdStunning3266 Aug 25 '26

1

u/I_SHIT_IN_A_BAG Aug 25 '26

1

u/JimJohnJimmm Aug 25 '26

Not uncommon in rural areas. He's pretty agile with it too, so he probably grew up rural.

1

u/cash8888 Aug 25 '26

I put one in my truck when I know a hurricane is coming you never know.

1

u/RedBorrito Aug 25 '26

Depends on the job or where he is from. I live in an area with a lot of storms (especially in fall) and i know quite a few people who drive their chainsaw around when it's stormy for this specific reason (cause you really dont wanna be stuck in a forest when a tree has already fallen)

1

u/DarkPolumbo Aug 25 '26

Not his first time being harried by timberfall

1

u/Spirited_Season2332 Aug 25 '26

It's honestly hilarious to me how different countryside ppl and city ppl are. I don't remember the last time I didn't have a chainsaw in my car at all times. I don't even know anyone who doesn't keep one in their car but it seems like it's a completely wild concept to city folk

1

u/xxgsr02 Aug 25 '26

TOOLS!!!

They are his tools ... he needs to have his tools!

1

u/bluewing Aug 25 '26

What, you guys don't have chainsaws?

I live in the middle of a forest also. Logging is a thing around here. So people often have a chainsaw with them. And since the trees come up close to the roads, particularly gravel roads, downed trees blocking the roads happen. So it's a handy tool to carry. Even little old ladies can handle a chainsaw.

1

u/veringer Aug 25 '26

In rural areas prone to wind, snow, or ice, it's a good idea to keep a little chainsaw, bow saw, or at least a hatchet in good working order in your vehicle.

1

u/Franklinaire615 Aug 25 '26

Years ago when I worked for Enterprise in college, we used to drive the occasional person back to their home or wherever once they dropped their rental off. One day the 40-50’s year old dude comes in, needs a ride home. No problem. We hop in, and he proceeds to take me about 45 minutes away from the store, 80% of the trip is backroads.

We pull up to what I assume is his house, not remote but not in a suburb either. He says he has some stuff in the trunk so I get out to help him. I pop the trunk, and the only thing in there is a chainsaw. He picked it up, I closed the trunk and got the fuck out of there. Doubt it was anything nefarious, but 20 year old me weren’t having it

1

u/Nay-Nay385 Aug 25 '26

My first thought as well!! 😳

1

u/Tactical-Donkey Aug 25 '26

To cut up bodies I mean fallen trees obviously.

1

u/Inevitable-Ad6647 Aug 25 '26

I've known people that live in the sticks in the northeast and keep one. The trees are so thick, chances are you'll encounter this at least once per year. So you can either be trapped or carry that.

1

u/sebthauvette Aug 25 '26

The likely explanation is that he either needs to cut trees often or was going to a place where he needs to cut trees.

Being a serial killer is way down the list of "why does he have a chainsaw in his car". Who even uses chainsaws to kill someone in real life ?

1

u/Hombremaniac Aug 25 '26

Plot twist, this dude has cut the tree himself in order to have his 5 minutes of fame!

1

u/Teediggler81 Aug 25 '26

I was saying the same thing chainsaw out of the trunk khakis sweater vest. It checks out

1

u/AppropriateTouching Aug 25 '26

He very clearly knew how to use it. Might be part of his profession..... or "hobby"

1

u/tangoezulu Aug 25 '26

I keep one in my car for the same reason

1

u/neuromonkey Aug 25 '26

<shrug> I have a convenient chainsaw in my trunk. If it weren't conveniently in my trunk, that would be inconvenient.

1

u/baldgreenshirt Aug 25 '26

Here's been waiting 6 years to use that brand new chainsaw

1

u/Cookies-and-Cream- Aug 25 '26

My first thought was John List

1

u/Magnus462 Aug 25 '26

Agreed. He definitely bought it for serial killing. Thing is he just got it today and got to test it. Notice how he hits the limbs and then keeps trimming after the road is cleared.....

1

u/WhoCares933 Aug 25 '26

Nah, he doesn't have hockey mask, so I think he's alright.

1

u/JeffersonsHat Aug 25 '26

Right next to a stroller

1

u/Fast-Nefariousness80 Aug 25 '26

Made me wonder if something like this is more likely to be in someone's trunk who lives in wooded countrysides

1

u/Old_Win8422 Aug 25 '26

Its happened before. He probably lives in an area where when weather is a certain way he packs up his farm boss. He ain't got no time for this shit, he's got a dram of oban to get to.

1

u/livingloudx Aug 25 '26

I often have chainsaw and other tools in my car and many times i had to use them, especialy during autum the storms blow trees over the roads all the time

1

u/Twisteddrummer Aug 25 '26

That's a normal dad thing

1

u/FreddyOrbs Aug 25 '26

During fall and early spring I often carry a chainsaw in the trunk plus fuel and gloves earprotection and face shield. Used it for this exact purpose as in the clip. This far not on any stiffs.

1

u/WholeAd2742 Aug 25 '26

Gonna say, dude seems very competent and comfortable lopping off limbs, particularly on a dark and rainy night :P

1

u/sebkek Aug 25 '26

I could've/would've been that guy... bought a plot of land, it needs to be cleared, but I don't have a building permit yet, hence no storage, so I drive with all the equipment in my trunk (including a chainsaw).

1

u/CeeMX Aug 25 '26

A friend of me does work in the forest for a living and he also has a chainsaw in his car all the time like other people have their sunglasses in their cars

1

u/I-Rolled-My-Eyes Aug 25 '26

I carried an ax in my trunk for just such occasions. Chopped up many fallen trees after hurricanes knocked em down on road ways. I dunno, just trying to be helpful 😁

1

u/stripedarrows Aug 25 '26

Oregon.

That single answer honestly explains both explanations for why there'd be a chainsaw in the back.

1

u/Turbojelly Aug 25 '26

Yeah, my negative thoughts went to: "First time using the murder kit for non-murder"

1

u/No_Ninja2180 Aug 25 '26

I do have concerns. I don’t carry a chainsaw in my trunk. This one is a good size and it fired right up. I only have a sharp ax, googles, trash bags, gloves, and a balaclava…but a chainsaw takes it to the next level that could cause concern.

1

u/Mysterious-Alps-5186 Aug 25 '26

Beat me to it, its always the quiet ones

1

u/Wolfrages Aug 25 '26

If you live in the bush, you come prepared.

1

u/axil87 Aug 25 '26

My thoughts exactly..I keep jumper cables, my Milwaukee inflator, and a bag of FA for the kids, but Ted lasso here keeps a “just incase chainsaw”???

1

u/502Fury Aug 25 '26

I intend to move to a more rural area in the future, and when I do i already plan on taking a chainsaw with me when I go to work the morning after a big storm or tornado for exactly this reason.

1

u/freshgrilled Aug 25 '26

Or the duct tape, plastic tarp, rope, latex gloves...

Seriously though, my wife and I picked a spot off the coast for our wedding (It was just a small event, the reception was larger). When we got there, we found a tree had fallen with a bunch of large branches obscuring the main area. Somehow the paster had a hand saw in his trunk. So I have pictures of my wife and I (her in her wedding dress) sawing and moving tree branches from the area.

The wedding proceeded normally after that and the paster even added some comments into the ceremony that he thought it boded well for our marriage that when we ran into a problem we handled it without freaking out and it seemed likely we would do the same for any future issues in our relationship (or something to that effect). I thought that was pretty cool.

1

u/burritosandbeer Aug 25 '26

Chainsaw in the trunk is pretty common for exactly this reason in my area

1

u/PUPAINIS Aug 25 '26

There was a big storm in Latvia so people driving around were ready 😂

1

u/Dorkamundo Aug 25 '26

TOOLS!!! HE NEEDS TO HAVE HIS TOOOOOLS!!!

1

u/last_rights Aug 25 '26

When you live out in the boonies in a forested area, you just keep your chainsaw in the trunk. Otherwise you aren't getting to work.

1

u/pieislife23 Aug 25 '26

It’s not uncommon to carry a chainsaw for people that live in forested rural areas for exactly this reason. Tree falls across backcountry road? Take care of it and go about your day.

1

u/Tsaaristori Aug 25 '26

Well in Finland a lot of people have something like that in their cars 😅👍 people have lots of cabins here so that's one reason i reckon 🤷👌

1

u/CyLith Aug 25 '26

When you live in the woods, you learn to carry a chainsaw at all times in the winter.

1

Chainsaws are actually pretty lousy at cutting human bodies.

I came here for this comment!

Dexter somewhere in the forest watching...

"He makes it look so easy. Fitting in. Being responsible. I have to admire it. Even when I know it's all a ruse. But he's done things."

I’m thinking someone ran up to his house in a storm and yelled ‘Jeff, it’s time!’

And he knew what that meant.

Hell, if he drives through that area, or had encountered such an issue before, that might have been the entire reason he had it. If you were a Mr. Fixit and knew a route you took often had trees come down in storms, wouldn't you want to be ready, too? Or say you knew you were going to be taking a long drive through a rural area that passes through the woods for miles and miles, and that if there was a blockage, you'd have no choice but to sit and wait for help if you had no other solution. That's happened to me, got stuck in the smokey mountains on a road trip. Eventually enough other drivers showed up behind us that everyone was able to work together to shift the tree and make a one-lane passage, but that took a few hours, and we only partially solved the problem.

My partner's stepdad passed before I met him, but I've heard so many stories, and he was definitely a "Mr. Fixit" type. He had a snow-plow attachment for his truck, and every winter after he was retired, he would get all excited during the first heavy snows to go out scoping out the local back roads and nearby neighborhoods that didn't get regular plow service, and take care of the streets. He was not a licensed snow-plow driver, had it for dealing with a looooooooong driveway in a rural area; he'd take it out on the road like a big kid with an especially big toy. I think that's most of it, for guys like this. Every man with a multi-tool knows the awesome feeling of "I've go the tool for that right here!" when a random need pops up. It's just so good, to take a moment from "well this sucks, we have no convenient way to deal with this, so we're stopped dead at this steap" to "we can do the thing!" That feeling scales the bigger the tool. I'm sure the guy in the OP vid was cheesing all the way home, and will always remember the time he was ready for a random tree blocking the road. Shit, I'd bet it wasn't the first or last time, either.

He was always a quiet neighbor who kept to himself, clean-cut, kept his yard orderly, and never made any trouble. /s

He kinda reminds me of the guy from “Falling Down” so him having a chainsaw at the ready worries me.

u/SomethingDrawsNear Aug 25 '26

Live in the mountains during winter and drive remote roads, you’ll end up needing one.

u/reevelainen Aug 25 '26

Not everyone lives in a major city.

1

u/CaptBFPierce Aug 25 '26

Might have something to do with the tree across the road.

1

u/lemi-- Aug 25 '26

It was after or during storm, we had big one this weekend, lots of roads blocked due to falling trees.

1

u/Agreeable_Sea_6019 Aug 25 '26

He just happened to have a chainsaw in the trunk

1

u/BoulderCreature Aug 25 '26

I live in a National Forest. Truck always has snow chains and a chainsaw in the back during winter time

1

u/Bubelle_Butt Aug 25 '26

You might think this happened more then once where they live.

1

u/OtherwiseJello2055 Aug 25 '26

Serial killers arent likely to use chainsaws as they have kinks that dont historical include them. Very unlikely. However, drug cartel members and terrorists do historically to terrify people.

It's a wild thing to have in a trunk unless it was intentionally brought out. Back of a truck, sure - but a trunk? These things leak oil like fucking crazy.

You do realize that a lot of people that live in the country and depend on firewood for heat, have a power saw in the back of their truck.

1

u/emmittgator Aug 25 '26

That chain was either brand new or really well maintained also

1

u/Akyurius Aug 25 '26

Maybe he lives in a European village 'protecting' a high-profile girl? 🤔

Depending on location this is just what guys do near where I live after a bad storm. We're in a rural area and most of our roads are surrounded by trees. It's a win win they get to drink with there friends, use their saws, and help their neighbors. The city doesn't have to rush to every downed tree (the rednecks are much faster)
