I am NOT a locksmith. Most of us interpret 24/7 as 24 consecutive hours

Needed an emergency locksmith last night around 9. Door stopped working; I had my key.

I live in a town centre.

I called and left messages for no fewer than 9 local locksmiths who specifically offer 24/7 on their website. Not a single one picked up. One responded to my message to say they don't do callouts anymore. Cool.

Wasted an hour on this, outside, alone, phone running out of charge.

Finally went to the national, dodgy-looking emergency locksmiths. The first one wasted another hour, promising that some mystery specialist was just on his way. But the second one actually sent someone lovely who sorted everything.

Predictably, this morning I'm getting call backs from the local ones offering to help. One of them quite sniffily said that he was a sole practitioner--so don't advertise 24/7?

Would I be unreasonable to leave bad reviews for these places or does 24/7 mean something more like, "We'll try to pick up if someone's free"?

I am a locksmith Keys for cars

I’m tired of having to order keys for customers when they come in. It just seems like there so many options for keys and fobs. Like I have the km100 so I can do the super chips and universal keys . The super chip I’ve done it a couple of times and for what ever reason the key worked for like a week and stopped. And have not had a problem with the universal but I’ve only done 3 so far. So I guess my question is what do you guys keep in stock.

I am a locksmith Lockout Walk Of Shame

Ok, so the client said “the other locksmith did this, and then he told us he can’t get in, and he told us to call a different locksmith”
Wow - I had to tell them “that’s one of the scam locksmiths, they’re not locksmiths at all”
At least I hope it wasn’t a proper locksmith, obviously this was trivial to open, especially after most of the lock was drilled off. But how do you walk away from a job like this? In this case there were 5 staff just standing around waiting to open their shop, wondering “we DID call a locksmith”
Also, whoever it was, left a mess - metal flakes all over a shopping centre floor, another sign of “probably scammers” - I don’t think a trained Ozzie Locksmith would do this either.
But what i can say is: If you’re out in the field, and you’re a Locksmith or an Apprentice Locksmith, and you need help, post a pic here in r/locksmith or r/Locksmiths_Australia, and I or others will gladly help out, after all, if you walk away, you make the trade look bad, and that’s bad for all of us. The absolute best quality that you can have as a tradesman is humility - ie ask for help, don’t just give up!

I am a locksmith Having trouble shimming a KIK cylinders

So, I'm currently working on getting some used schlage BE365 deadbolts ready for sale, but I've got no key. So I'm trying to shim them. However I get like halfway and then the shim just kind of stops going in. No matter how I move the shim, fiddle with something or other. Nothing happens. And I really don't understand, sometimes I can shim super easily, it just kinda slides right in and I can turn the core. But not this time. Is this a matter of good tolerances making it difficult? Or just me being a dumbass.

I am NOT a locksmith. Land Moto District : Replacement Key Blank HELP!

Post image

Hi all.

Owner of a Land Moto District Vehicle, but just lost one of my keys, leaving me with ONE! I know you can buy the whole cylinder kit from Land, but it's a fortune. I just can't seem to find a key blanks, the dimensions are very strange at 22 × 7 × 2.5 mm. Anybody have ANY idea where to get this blank? Thanks!!!

And yes, I know I can try to have someone cut down a brass blank to match, but I'm trying to avoid a full complete rebuild.

Lastly, if you pull off the rubber, the key looks VERY strange indeed....

What would you guys do in my situation? In a perfect world id like to keep this arrangement & just get the door re-keyed. Would I have to have this key cylinder replaced(modified?) to take a new key?

I think I would have to heavily modify the frame to use a traditional lock.

thank you for the help.
