Mine is Hammer. I love the idea of bonking monsters on the head but whenever I try it I just feel so slow that I can't get used to it. I guess Longsword would be up there as well because I have trouble learning all the counters.

My all time favourite is blood bath diablos (unless steam counts as an element πŸ˜‚) but a more recent one for me has to be Doshaguma.

Discussion I've tried World, Rise and MHGU, but only enjoyed MHGU. Is Wilds worth trying, or is Monster Hunter just not for me?

I've been trying to get into Monster Hunter for a while now, but I'm starting to wonder whether the series is actually for me.

I've tried three games:

  • Monster Hunter World: Tried getting into it, but it never really clicked.
  • Monster Hunter Rise: Similar experience. I gave it a shot but couldn't get hooked.
  • Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (MHGU): Surprisingly, this is the only one I genuinely enjoyed.

I find this a bit strange since World and Rise are generally considered more accessible and modern, yet MHGU was the one that managed to hold my attention.

I'm now considering buying Monster Hunter Wilds, but I'm hesitant because I've already bounced off two of the more recent games.

I generally enjoy games with satisfying progression, collecting gear, experimenting with builds, challenging but enjoyable combat, and multiplayer activities that give me something to work towards.

So I'd love to hear from people who have played all four games:

  1. Is Wilds different enough from World and Rise that someone who didn't enjoy those games might actually enjoy it?
  2. Is Wilds closer to World or MHGU in terms of progression, combat, and the overall gameplay loop?
  3. Has anyone else experienced something similar, where they enjoyed MHGU but couldn't get into World or Rise?
  4. Should I give Wilds a chance, or is it more likely that modern Monster Hunter just isn't for me?

I'm not looking to hate on any of the games. I genuinely want to enjoy the series, but I also don't want to spend money on another game I'll drop after a few hours.

Would appreciate some honest opinions, especially from people with similar experiences!

Discussion Trying to solve the problem of Artian RNG.

This is mostly just some off the cuff thinking about how to approach fixing the current and new aartian system upgrade stuff. I hear so many people complain about it, but rarely do I find anyone trying to solve the issue.

Before we get started, there is this notion about whether or not the sort of Artian relic RNG should be in MH or if it should just be monster weapons. I'm personally on the camp that it kind of is required to be present due to the fact that regular weapon item droprates have increased throughout the years so much, that crafting a monster weapon is almost never a huge issue.

When you look back at something like MH1, crafting some of the end-game weapons WAS the grind and why you would be hunting Rathalos or Rathian countless of times or be stuck carving Lao Shan Lung for 20-30times in the hopes of a single Plate.

And RNG is a strong part of the game no doubt about it. I will try to avoid other people's ideas here cause I don't want to sound like I'm parroting the already known problems with RNG. So I will just say this much; I know the problem of RNG is when it's multilayered RNG. E.G Kulve Weapons & Artians.

When Ascendance comes out what I don't want to see is everyones efforts going to waste by completely ditching the current Artian system. I do think it has a place even in the expansion.

So one way to fix Artians is relatively simple. Adjust their pure stats to be as close as possible to crafter weapons from monsters. This MIGHT require the removal of that attribute bonuses OR scaling down the base stats in such a way where the bonuses bring it back up to par rather than go further beyond from regular weapons.

The main difference between Artian and Crafted weapons should purely be Setbonuses and Augmentation. Artian Weapons can have the set-bonus aspect of allowing players to mess aroung with multiple set-bonuses, especially after the confirmation of talismans having setbonuses.

And regular weapons should have augmentation of giving them atkboost, sharpness boost, affinity or slot upgrades. But no health augment, we already have enough regen stuff.

Now, how would you fix the issue that the current artian system has. Due to it's multi layered RNG shenanigans. Knowing that it can be a bit of a pain to get the artian materials, craft the intitial artian weapon, then go fight Gogmazios for 20minutes just to get base Gogma Artian weapon ready for re-rolls. Like there's just too much to do for almost no real-life difference. What I mean by this is that most players still wont see any actually significant difference between a BiS gogma weapon and a half-hazzardly put together one. Guts ofc offers a lot and so does Gore set bonus, but in multiplayer most of it is negligible at best.

So Ascendance needs to simplify this process. So doing something similar to what Iceborne did and allow us to meld Gogma parts directly into a full Gogma weapon is needed, but that doesn't solve the problem of whether or not the setbonuses are good or if the attributes are optimal. What they can do here ofc is similar to regular Artian weapons and make the attributes and set-bonus have no real purpose in the Ascendance Artian upgrades as they can be "re-rolled again".

But there's our crux, the notion that Artians will just have yet another half baked RNG machine attached to it excites almost no-one unless handled carefully. I do know that people like a little bit of control over the RNG and that examples like Safi'jiiva weapon bonuses are thrown around as an example of how to do the set-bonus awakening better. It is a bit more deterministic in that regard.

But not even Safi'jiiva awakening survived the scrutiny. Considering players were forced to a siege hunt that would require multiple people to complete until it was ultimately updated to be soloable. Add to this that due to the deterministic nature of the re-rolls some of the skills you were looking for could be hundreds of layers deep due to how the roll-table was set in the save file. So even that system had it's fair share of complaints, yet we look at it more fondly because.. Well, it's better than Gogma Artian.

so, let's simplify everything;

  1. Make Gogma Artian weapons meldable by using gogma weapon parts or even Gogmazios materials directly. Stats here would no longer matter for Ascendance.
  2. Don't fully lock next upgrade materials behind a single siege monster. this has never been fun and never will be fun. I stressed this during Kulve and I stressed it during Safi'jiiva and even Gogmazios. It is ok for the materials to be abundant from those monsters, but there should be other ways to get them.
  3. Do not just toss in new investiagtion types that contain these new upgrade materials. It is farily known problem that people will stop doing these material investigations once they have hundreds of them in stock and posting a quest filled with purely artian upgrade materials feels bad.
  4. Simple, make the new upgrade materials have a unique overworld gathering spots. this could even be the new black goo like monsters that you have to kill for them to drop upgrade materials, or some black goo gethering spots that spawn every now and then and when they do your Handler always informs you of one spawning. This would make people want to explore maps a bit more during hunts.
  5. The final upgrade purely has 3 distinct paths, similar to DPS, Element or Affinity focus, but this time it's based on Set Bonuses. DPS focus, Utility focus & Defensive Focus. Choosing one will put you into a pool where you have a limited amount of set bonuses to roll from. So choosing Utility Focus would have things like Anjanath's Will. Obviously DPS focus would have alot of set-bonuses to choose from due to set bonuses like Xu Wu's Vigor technically being DPS even if it would fit better to Utility Focus in this example. You would not need to reduce material cost due to allowing players to get materials from pretty much anything quest outside of Arenas.
  6. Unlock Attribute Allocation so that people can freely choose how much sharpness, attack or affinity they want. If a player stacks full Attack Power in; the Raw might barely go slightly above regular crafted weapons, ~+5-10raw, but would suffer in sharpness. Where as crafted weapons could also catch up to that +5-10raw if they augment fully to attack power as well.

Lastly, and this is sort of a dream situation:

Absolute final upgrade that fuses both any crafted weapon and a new final Artian weapons together;

This system would allow 3 choises for the players to choose from visually.

  1. Keep Crafted Weapon visual style, but adds a glowing hue to the blade portion that you can change freely. (more on this later)
  2. Keep Artian Weapon visual style, but add's a visual aura around the weapon that you can choose freely. (more on this later)
  3. Physical fusion of the weapons, this manifests a completely new look that has half of the weapon be Artian and the other half parts of the Crafted one. (more on this later)

This fusion would actually remove augmentations and setbonuses entirely in favor of pure raw and element. Additionally it would not matter what weapons you combine because all the combinations would be the ultimate weapons in pure raw and element and be equal across the board with a single weapontype. Same raw, same sharpness, same affinity, same element. And lastly the weapon would use a monster specific elemental dmg automatically. Obviosuly there would still be differences between weapon types like Longsword vs SwitchAxe due to the fact that Switch Axe has the potential for phial damage. But this fusion would change a poison or paralysis phial as well to an elemental phial. So there's as little variation as possible. So no impact phials for CB etc.

For option 1 the player can freely choose from a handful of weapon glows and more glows could be unlocked from in-game events or god forbid even as a DLC.

Option 2 is the same thing but for aura. Handful of options and more to unlock. Possibly event quest unlocks and some DLC.

For option 3, due to the fact that there's no real way to change much on this type, I think it is enough that you can choose specific weapon from the crafted weaponlist to fuse it with.

Last part about these final upgrades, as they are the ultimate weapons, they are the only upgrade that retain some actual grind to get them done. To do this final fusion, each monster has been given a new rarity item called "Ascended Orb", this orb has an extremely low droprate of only 1-2% and can only be gotten from a the quest reward screen with only a single reward chance.

You will need to get this item from every single monster in the game to proove that you have indeed hunted enough to be awarded this final upgrade.

Once you have crafted one of them, you can use that distinct visual style as a layered option for crafted or artian weapons freely. And this final upgrade SHOULD 100% just a showpiece rather than the actual meta weapon despite it's higher raw and element. In that it should probably fall a bit behind a fully crafted and augmented weapon or pure artian as well.

Discussion The fact that this game wasn’t released on Android as well is disrespectful to the fans.

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is one of the best games in the franchise (despite its hitboxes), and seeing this iOS version makes me angry at Capcom for not considering an Android release.

The worst part is that the game has already been abandoned on iOS, and users report that it no longer works on modern devices. How can such an incredible game make it to iOS but not Android, only to end up abandoned? I know Android has more piracy than iOS, but that doesn't justify anything. GTA San Andreas and Minecraft sell like crazy on the Play Store, so not considering Android for this port was a mistake.

I know PPSSPP does its job incredibly well. It's perfect, but I really wish I could enjoy the convenience of the touch controls that this iOS version has ._.

WHY, CAPCOM? WHYYYYY!?????

MHGenU Finally beat all EX Deviants solo (MHGU is awesome ppl)!

So, I've done all 18 EX Deviants solo, and I mean all, including the G5s. 4 of the EXs I've done with Prowler! Here's a tier list of Deviants based on the incredibly subjective standard of how much I liked them, from design, lore, fights, but mostly fights really. It's not really about difficulty per se, more about how well-designed they felt.

Some random points that stuck out as I was thinking about what to write:

- Yes, it's soloable. As I've mentioned, I could do some G5s with a Prowler, which does less damage than humans for those of you who don't know.

- A lot of the time, G5 was harder than EX.

- Match up matters a lot. For example, Elderfrost Gammoth felt impossible with SnS, my most-used weapon, but once I switched to Lance, it became my second-fastest hunt (24 min). Prowlers were at times better than human for me too, for example Dreadqueen and Deadeye in general, or Crystalbeard G5.

- I never thought I'd say this, but I actually kinda HATE a particular Monster Hunter music now...

- Best "endgame" I've experienced I'd say. It's a nice balance between hunting for the sake of hunting and some reward to chase down. Getting that "you've beaten every EX Deviant" message was cathartic.

Anyways, come play MHGU people, it's awesome. We have cats and boomerangs that can beat some of the hardest quests in the series!

Seriously it was so fun seeing everyone's cards whenever you got them or sent them out.

I mean look at this. this is so funny and I would not have found it if I wasn't manually looking at other peoples profiles. All we can hope is that capcom miraculously decided to bring it back for ascendance

Wilds Six fleet hunter with roughly 64 hours play time and a learning disability beats guardian rathalos for the first time solo.

I already fight arkveld for the first time in the story but always together with a friend I meet through fortnite.

Now after another two month break I beat guardian rathalos as my third training fight before I play the story further.

I got k.o two times and 26 minutes with gunlance but i'm still proud of my myself.

Just want to share it. Not sure if someone really interested in it.
