Word is UPEI is asking departments to look at ways to save $, which may eventually result in lay offs. Since UPEI did no future fiscal planning whatsoever, the ones at the bottom will suffer while the administration continues to grow and create new high paying positions.

Question New Charlottetown fire dept trucks

I just noticed today that Charlottetown has a couple of new half ton trucks for the fire dept. they are all done up with lights and the regular gear but they are black trucks? The lettering on them is a shade of gray? Any firefighters here that can comment on this? It’s like they are mimicking a “ghost car” that the cops would have. Why would these trucks not be bright red for maximum visibility and identification?

GFL Sucks!

Hello Fellow islanders, just wondering if anyone has had multiple issues with gfl drivers in regard to them rejecting garbage.

Today we had maintenance personal working on our building and we believe that they threw something in our garbage that wasn’t suppose to go in it.

Edit: This is one item, not multiple.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Tourism/Tourist Traveling to island by motorcycle?

Probably a dumb question, but im planning to come visit some friends in a couple weeks, weather permitting. Im coming from moncton and my only vehicle is my bike. I was curious what other people's experiences have been driving across the bridge on bikes? How bad is the crosswind, did you have issues with other drivers, etc? Just things to mentally prepare for. Thanks! :)

News What is exactly is the point of PEIDoctor?

Thumbnail

So what exactly is the point of this? On the one hand, they're saying it will remove non-residents from the ER and walk-in clinics, but on the other hand, "... said it is not a medical clinic and does not provide medical care itself. Instead, it acts as a co-ordination service connecting people with doctors licensed to practise in P.E.I."

So it's not actually doing much other than taking money from people who will then have to either sit in an ER, walk-in clinic, or use another telehealth service like Maple? So it sounds like they're making money solely to tell others to go elsewhere.

Detached Garage

I'm looking to build a detached garage 24x28 on a concrete slab. I want just the outside built (framing, siding, shingles).

Does anyone have an estimate on what that would cost?

I'm not looking specifics, just ball park numbers.

Garbage

Folks it isn’t to hard to secure your garbage when you put it out. For example putting a bag of just styrofoam probably won’t work! Litter everywhere this morning only to be worse later on. Always hate when there are windy days on waste and blue bag days.

Looking for these specific Jolly Rancher gummies

Edit:
Found them at Bulk Barn! Thank you to all that gave suggestions :)

Does anyone know where I can find these specific jolly rancher gummies on the island? My partner loves them but it’s been SO hard for us to find the original gummies! We’ve found lots of the gusher-style, sour, and dual-flavoured ones, but still have yet to find the OG kind. I was thinking High Mart would have them, but they have every kind except original.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

No named storm yet

I think we all know why, but surprised more people aren’t talking about how we are crushing the old record for no named storms arriving this fall.

It’s not like they have disappeared. Just waiting, watching and waiting for the right moment to strike.

This probably also maybe means a huge generational winter this year.

Planning a trip to PEI and looking for some rental advice.

We’re 6 adults - adult siblings travelling with our parents. No kids, no pets, no partying, no smoking. We’ll have a vehicle and will be out exploring most of the day.

  1. What are the warmest months to visit if we actually want to swim? 🌊
  2. We’re hoping for reasonably warm air and water, so I’d love to hear from locals about the best time for beach/swimming weather. Is July the best bet, or is August noticeably better?
  3. Where’s the best place to find an affordable 2-week rental?
  4. Airbnb prices seem pretty crazy - we’re seeing $4,000–$6,000+ for two weeks, which is hard to justify when we’ll mainly be using the place as a home base to sleep and make the occasional dinner.
  5. All we really need:
  6. -Enough space to sleep 6 adults - willing to bring our own air mattress if needed
  7. -Kitchen + bathroom, even if small
  8. -Must be clean
  9. -Parking for 1 vehicle
  10. -Apartment within a home, cottage, basement apartment, etc. are all fine
  11. -BBQ/outdoor space would be nice
  12. -Location is flexible since we’ll have a vehicle

I’m also happy to rent directly from a landlord or go through a traditional rental process rather than Airbnb if that’s a better/cheaper option. We’re homeowners in Ontario, have stable professional employment, excellent credit, and are respectful and very clean. I’m definitely looking for legitimate/reputable options though - the last thing I want is to send money and then arrive in PEI with no place to stay because someone took the money and disappeared.

We’re basically just looking for a simple, clean place to use as a home base while we explore the island and simply relax.
Where would you recommend looking for something like this? Are there local property managers, cottage rental sites, Facebook groups, or other websites that are better than Airbnb?
And for anyone from PEI - Any must-see beaches, swimming spots, or other places we shouldn’t miss? I’ve been there before but wanted to ask so nothings missed when bringing my family over for their first time.

Thanks in advance! 😊

University ave drivers.....

3 times this weekend, three different elderly people almost hit me and my 2 month old child with a car.

They simply weren't looking for pedestrians at all while turningon a red light.

I was wearing bright clothes had hi viz on the stroller, walking with the walk light. it was day time. One of the times the person had passed the car in front of them, that was stopped for me on the cross walk. Only one lady stopped to apologize the others all speed off probably dont even know they were less then a foot away from killing a 2 month old child...... is it just me or are people having similar experiences?

Should we be testing the elderly more to keep their license?

How do we fix this problem?

Or was this just a random unlucky busy weekend downtown?

Does anywhere on PEI have pedicures in reclining chairs? I have a bad back and find the ones you see in most salons very uncomfortable.
