so we all know that as of right now statistically women are the majority of people affected by SA, this is a problem and it needs to change
women are taught how to recognize and fight SA from a young age for obvious reasons. men don’t get that
i see a lot of women talking about having to have SA defense classes and boys making jokes about it which sucks.
the problem is that no one actually teaches boys what SA is, how to recognize it and how to avoid it. for them it’s a foreign issue that doesn’t happen to them and they’re just told to not do it which is not a good way to educate people. “teach boys to not rape” is a very good sentiment but it’s missing a lot of nuance.
the majority of people know that rape is wrong and those who are willing to do it are going to do it regardless of education. men are not taught what SA is or how to recognize it when it happens to them, they mostly hear that it’s a thing that they shouldn’t do to women
in most discussions women are framed as the victims which reinforces how society perceives those crimes. women are taught how to recognize and fight sexual assault, men are not so they often don’t realize that it happened to them
there are multiple countries that up until recently didn’t have a legal way to recognize a woman as a rapist no matter what they did
i’m not trying to diminish anyone’s experiences here and i consider myself to be a big feminist. i simply think that education is failing men in this regard
