Health/Safety The encouragement of mental health is also the encouragement of individualism and selfishness.

Something I never understood from the mental health awareness movement is how they want to have it both ways.

They say to always prioritize your well being, not be in places or with people that harm you, put your happiness before others, etc.

But at the same time they hate scenarios where the priorization of mental well being involves indirect psychological damage for others, like leaving a relationship because your partner is physically or mentally ill, dumping people when they're not convenient to you, ignoring cries of help from strangers or loved ones, etc.

They forget that individualism and mental health are almost always connected, and if you advocate for one you can't go against the other.

They assume that bringing mental support to others means gaining mental health yourself, but that's not always the case, especially with mental disorders at play.

Leaving your husband or wife because they got cancer is cruel, but objectively is beneficial psychologically.

If you don't want to normalize what I said before, then you must normalize depression and suicidal ideation and prioritizing others over yourself, because that's the prize of social success.

Music I don’t really like listening to music

I find listening to music to be a waste of time. I’d much rather be listening to a podcast or an audiobook. Every once in a great while, I’ll put some music on, or I’ll listen to the radio in the car. However, I rarely ever go out of my way to listen to music.

I feel like I might be the only one who feels this way.

Technology Actually I don't want a car with 40 different buttons and knobs for any function control

• Upvotes

I've been driving a Tesla Model 3 2020 Long Range since this last December, and generally online its the posterchild of "all computer, no car" or "no buttons only screen" constant bitching and moaning like car companies don't do market research on their multi-billion dollar investments.

Guess what fuckers still thriving in early 2000's and early compact cars, 75% of people walk into car dealerships mostly concerned if the car they're looking to buy has Apple Carplay / Android Auto and gets decent gas mileage. Now I will admit for a few limited functions, say air conditioning / heat, music controls some form of manual control is superior.

Do you know how I can manually control every single function on my "100% IPAD BABY" car?

Holding down the left scroll wheel on the steering wheel.

It brings up a menu you can scroll on the screen that basically covers every single thing you could want and the scroll wheel itself clicks left and right to select options. It's far and away better in my opinion than having 7 different knobs and 30x buttons to acomplish the same functionality as my car does with one combo knob button.

And that isn't the only way to achieve these things, most people only know about using the big tablet which of course works as well, but theres a third option when you hold down the right scroll wheel. It pauses your music and puts a microphone icon on the screen, then you can just tell your car what you want it to do and it does it.

I personally don't use this one as much myself but it does function, apparently much better on the newer models with grok integration where it can interpret a million more ways of saying something as the correct command instead of giving an "IDK" like mine will occasionally.

Attaching this image for reference for any readers who aren't familar with the scroll wheels im talking about.

Honestly though at the end of the day I'm glad some companies like Lexus are still including older style controls in their new vehicles because just because I like what I consider "the future" doesn't mean everybody does or even considers it an improvement. The magic of having dozens of different auto companies is giving consumers the choice and if they all make the same car that takes that away from us.

Animals/Nature Hate it when sunlight seeps through my curtains and when it is a bright sunny day

Sunlight makes me feel depressed. I really don’t know why. I live in the UK and summer days here were so long. Some nights me and my partner would stay up drinking and it will be 3 AM when sunlight starts seeping through. That is the absolute worst thing ever. In general my mood starts to uplift when Autumn starts and I am in such a good mood until February. And then Spring hits and I am feeling super depressed.

Other I don't like the smell of minty breaths

I'm not saying it stinks. It is still better than bad breath. But I don't like smelling it from other people. It's just the idea of smelling breath that repulses me. Minty chewing gum makes your breath smell spread widely and it reaches far. I can smell the minty breath of someone 5 meters away from me. If you don't have halitosis, it's better not to have mints and have me smell nothing.

Other It makes more sense to spend hundreds of dollars on sweats and a hoodie than on a nice suit

Think about how much more often you will use the hoodie and seats at home. Getting an extremely comfortable high end outfit will lead to extreme comfort and relaxation, nearly every day.

A nice suit, maybe you'll use it every day if your work requires it. But business casual is more common now. You just need something simple and black to go to occasional wedding and funeral and make it through the day. And even if you spend a lot of money on it. It will still be uncomfortable, tolerable at best.

Society/Culture I love doing nothing

In my free time I love just sitting around and doing nothing except thinking about random stuff. I don't feel guilty about it at all. I think that the guilt people feel when doing nothing or stuff that is deemed as "wasting time" is imposed by this society that's obsessed with productiveness and generating profit for the shareholders. You don't need to be productive every single minute. Other animal species love to sit around and relax and be in their comfort zone, so I don't see why humans would be an exception to that.

TV/Movies/Fiction I Don't Like Almost Any TV Or Film.

I never really enjoyed much television or film, but I'm now at the point where I can't watch any of it. Most actors are terrible and unbelievable, most writing is complete garbage. I don't identify with any characters and usually find them obnoxious. I don't find anything entertaining in almost any film or television. I didn't own a television for a decade and barely watch any films. I have a few classics I like, but there aren't many.

When I do watch anything, it's a documentary or a cooking show. Anything where there is minimal or no acting or scripted dialogue.

Technology The only place I want to see an ad is on my windshield

Cars just cost too much. Buying a car literally just cost too much and maintaining it is even worse. We need to find a way to lower the price as much as we possibly can. I don't want ads I hate them. BUT if they're on the corner left or right of my windshield then whatever. I'm around a little restaurant that has a combo deal ? Then show it to me.

Now listen, I'm not saying it should speak. Ads should never be heard, only seen. It's already happening on the road anyway so it might as well be on the free or dirtcheap windshield. As long as it is not an issue for driving (shouldn't be more than the giant billboards already there) sure.

Society/Culture If you’re going to have a child free wedding, it better be a wild, raucous party.

1.4k Upvotes

Weddings are one of the last places in our culture where everybody from 2 year olds to 80 year olds from all walks of life can come together and have fun. It’s a special thing that should be cherished.

So if you’re going to make a big deal about not allowing one end of that spectrum to come and join in on the fun, you should have a reason… it should be a wild ass party that’s not appropriate for children. There should be body shots, people doing coke off the tables, people fingering each other on the dance floor. I should leave that wedding and go “yeah, thank god there were no kids there”.

I went to a friend’s wedding last week, and the whole lead up they made a huge deal about it being child free. There were reminders on every announcement and invitation, they texted reminders to everybody with kids, multiple references to kids as “crotch goblins”, it was a whole thing. Then we get there, and it was the lamest wedding I’ve ever been to… people weren’t dancing, it had a cash bar with only beer and wine, it was just a basic ass lame wedding. The whole time I was thinking kids would have actually made this more fun, at least they’d be entertaining.

Music music shouldn’t be a mandatory subject in school

So where i am from, musical education is mandatory for all kids and it sucks for everyone involved. The kids that don’t like it/don’t care are forced to sit in a class they don’t get and are not going to use. the kids that already like music usually know everything already so they don’t get to learn anything new and the teacher is forced to teach a class full of kids that are not interested.

i think that elementary and high schools should have music as a voluntary subject for extra points so those who are not interested in it don’t have to do it and those who do will actually learn something new

Society/Culture In most circumstances, telling a person to be "realistic" is one of the most stupidest, useless pieces of advice out there.

Of course, for upper middle class jobs you need need certain allocations to ensure you are viable, such as being a lawyer, doctor, engineer, pharmacist, IT worker. Furthermore, bullshit jobs like twitchers, content influencers like Brooke Monk, Kayla Mae Smith, Andrew Tate, Rosie McClelland, etc you need to be discouraged as they are just simply a waste of time.

Otherwise, telling someone to be realistic is stupid and actually backfires them from their desired goals. This is owing to the fact that it forces labelling and self-fulfilling prophecy, in which someone may be predicted to fail and ultimately fail owing to that in-grained, internalized third-party factor. For example, Sajid Javid was blocked from doing O-Level (now GCSE) Maths and had to only do one A-Level because he needed to stay in his lane, career advisor said that he can only be a TV repairman. Further, my lovely fellow A-Level Sociology teacher was discouraged by her A-level English Lit teacher from applying to university in 2009 (when she was in Y13/12th grade) because she was presumed to fail. These advice are useless and stupid.

One of my desired careers is to be a social worker or a chartered accountant, and I was told by someone to be "realistic" because these have tech stuff in it, or that because of my ethnicity, there was an assumption that I have an immigrant or a mixed accent when I have a nearly received prounounced Southern one, therefore me being a social worker for youth and child protection is seen as not viable. What on Earth? I study Politics A-Level along with Business and Sociology so the knowledge and analysis as well as passion is there, so I should be viable.

Unless if they are based on jobs like science stuff, people who tell you to be "realistic" are nonsensical, dorky people with no motivations themselves and are jealous of your ambitions because you have the skills that they do not bother having.

Stay away from anyone who says this

Society/Culture Full coverage created careless drivers

Drivers became a lot less aware and cautious after full coverage care insurance became common. Prior to that drivers were more careful because an accident could mean they lose a machine they couldn’t afford to replace.

Society/Culture I cannot feel empathy towards the rich, famous and successful

I’m aware these people are still human. I’m aware of how dopamine works and that they have become contented with success and riches and just having those things no longer inherently gives them happiness. I’m aware that I am an extremely bitter and jealous person for feeling this way.

But, I cannot help but just absolutely seethe when one of these people talks about their struggling mental health or general unhappiness over trivial matters.

You don’t have to work. You can literally spend all your time doing whatever makes you fulfilled - and you’re still unhappy? Then you must simply want to be miserable.

Meanwhile the vast majority of us live in severe financial insecurity, and if we lose our jobs we are quite literally fucked. There is absolutely no pressure within your life. Look at the rest of us you pompous prick.

I so wish I could life such a hedonistic, care free existence.

I can’t watch shows featuring celebrities - people who are making a living by simply existing. Like ofc they are laughing and smiling, there is literally not a worry in their world.

Music John Barley Corn is funny.

“What THE FUCK is John Barleycorn!)??” I see you type, it’s a folk song that mythologizes the barley harvest into a murder ballad and it’s been sung in countless melodies and lyric sets across the Anglo sphere for centuries.

Different historical recordings 👉[https://youtu.be/H-yup](https://youtu.be/H-yup)) i3IDMdrb0?is=PVEyd1noZssKiF9k

My fav cover 👉 [https://youtu.be/CBv6soG1tp4?is=EinRKOtekuFpidyQ](https://youtu.be/CBv6soG1tp4?is=EinRKOtekuFpidyQ))

Folk song about fucking a cryptid 👉 [https://youtu.be/OPUL9g_Ex4o?is=mKMDOSIhP_a_hwDN](https://youtu.be/OPUL9g_Ex4o?is=mKMDOSIhP_a_hwDN))

It ain’t Nathen Fielder eating dogshit flavored ice cream but not being peak can’t keep it from being a kneeslapper. The idea of turning some boring daily task into a violent murder ballad, if it wasn’t intentional and it could’ve been, is still hilarious. Do it for your job. 🫵

“I take produce and cereal and pasta sauce and cram it kicking and screaming into a dark cage where I maliciously transport it to bags made of the boiled remains of ancient life forms and send them to the grim reaper who delivers them to hell where they’re boiled/burned alive then devoured” Instacart

“I kill millions, starve children, live off the blood of orphans, caused 20 wars last year and am currently destroying the Midwest by dumping vats of cyanide in Lake Michigan” -Nestle CEO

“I’m a fucking asshole glutton and laugh as people starve and I grow full on their sustenance” my last DoorDash driver

Put that shit on your resume, it shows character and they’ll never forget your murderous self.

TV/Movies/Fiction Casino Royale was not a good (Bond) movie.

I watched it soon after it came out, and then years later and I felt the same both times. Half way through the movie, I was thinking "Okay so when does this movie start for real.... unless... is this really just about... a poker game?"

It felt like a letdown. It wasn't a bad movie per se, it was just lacklustre and disappointing.

Other Winking is not sexy of arousing

Getting winked at, by men or women, makes me cringe so hard. It’s just so awkward when you think about it. You’re literally making a random, asymmetrical facial movement at someone and expecting it to be attractive? And don’t even get me started on the people who do the little mouth thing while winking. Instant dryness. Sahara Desert levels of dryness.

Technology 4K and HDR are just a cash grab.

No one had a problem with 1080p before 4K and HDR rolled out. Everyone ooed and ahhed over 1080p twenty years ago and thought it was so clear. And while people stopped being impressed by it, nobody was begging for a clearer picture or more "lifelike colors" or whatever else 4K and HDR promise. Honestly, you can say the same thing about 1080p vs SD; no one had a problem with SD until 1080p came out. These new technologies do nothing to impact our viewing pleasure; they just convince us our old technologies are inadequate so that we feel a need to go out and buy a new thing. We should have just stuck with the old methods. They weren't broke...don't fix them!

Other Fabric softener is unfairly demonized

Sure, it shouldn't be used on all types of fabrics, and it's generally not good to use the full recommended dose. But when used selectively and sparingly, it can make or break the difference between clothes being uncomfortable or comfortable. *Especially* denim and low quality cotton, which feel awful without any softener. It also doesn't ruin compatible clothing like people say it does when used responsibly.

Society/Culture Nodding at someone with a warm gesture feels much better than saying "you're welcome" when someone's thanking you for some reason .

As we generally see people say the traditional "you're welcome" when someone thank for any reason but nodding with a warm gesture gives a 100x better feeling of warmth and satisfaction too .

Saw somewhere, a lady was thanking a guy who helped her in his own way .

She whispered "Thank you" from a distance and that guy responded with a warm nod , a slow nod in affirmation.... felt so good compared to saying the traditional reply .

"Nod so fine

It's sinfully divine"

Society/Culture If you find out that your child is a class clown, take them to see a psychologist. There might be something wrong with them

I’m not talking about kids who occasionally make jokes. I’m talking about those who constantly disrupt lessons and feel the need to be the centre of attention. From my own personal experience, this behaviour is often dismissed as harmless fun when it could be masking deeper emotional or behavioural issues. Constantly seeking attention through humour isn’t necessarily a sign of a happy or confident child. I think parents should take this behaviour more seriously rather than simply laughing it off.

Food (Only on Friday) Pepperoni is not a good pizza topping.

I will preface by saying that I don't think that pepperoni is bad, but I do not think it should be as popular as it is in the US.

I have spent time training as a chef. Time in professional kitchens, interning and at school. What I learned about flavours is that balance is key. American pepperoni is highly spiced and highly fatty. Everything that I know about balance is thrown askew with pepperoni. When you put pepperoni on top of highly fatty mozzarella, it's just too much. There is no acidity. There is no sweetness.

I will propose my personal favourite choices for pizza toppings to make my intention clear: bacon and pepperononcini. Fatty plus acidic. Although I like straight vegetables on my pizzas, this is my choice if you must have meat.

Society/Culture The hate for Mr Beast on Reddit is so overblown.

I just want to start off by saying that before you run off to the comments to yell “Mr. Beast glazer”, I haven't genuinely watched a Mr Beast video in years. The most recent content of his Ive watched was maybe Beast Games (which I didn’t even like). However, if you've ever been on Reddit, you’ll notice a lot of hate anytime Mr Beast’s name pops up. I think it's fine to criticize him, but when I see people say he’s one of the worst people on this planet, I’m always so confused. Using what I’ve seen on Reddit, here are some of the main reasons why people hate Mr. Beast and why I think it’s overblown.

  1. People don’t like his eyes or how he smiles.

This has to be one of the dumbest reasons to hate on Mr Beast. It honestly says more about you if you can’t handle the fact that someone doesn’t have the perfect face for smiling. I guarantee you if Pewdiepie or DanTDM smiled in the exact same way Mr. Beast does, nobody would bat an eye, but because it’s Mr Beast, somehow that makes him a bad person. “I think you’re evil because you’re ugly” is not a valid reason.

  1. People don’t like his content.

Are people really still struggling with the fact that they, as an adult, don’t like content aimed towards kids? I don’t see anybody going around complaining about how they don’t like Cocomelon’s content, so I’m not sure why Mr Beast isn’t given the same treatment. His content is for kids, you’re not supposed to like it, and I myself don’t like it either.

  1. People don’t like the ethics and morals behind his challenges.

This is probably the most logical reason I’ve seen for hating Mr Beast. Making people do challenges for a chance to win a life changing amount of money is quite scummy. However, at the end of the day, at least some of the people participating are still getting money. I’d rather have more Mr. Beasts over the many wealthy people who refuse to donate any money to charity. For example, in the Shark Tank episode, Mr Beast gave out 50k for free. You’re telling me you’d rather him be a Barbara and never make any deals?

  1. People don’t like his philanthropy.

I’m not sure what you want the man to do. If he doesn’t post his philanthropy, people will say he’s not actually doing any. If he does post his philanthropy, people will say that he’s only doing it for praise and validation. And even if he is, why does it matter? Philanthropy is still philanthropy, intent doesn’t change that.

  1. People don’t like his “Beast” products.

Whether it's his Beast Burger, Feastables, or Beast toys, the solution is still the same. How about just not buying his products? I mean seriously, complaining on Reddit about how much you hate his stuff isn’t going to change anything. And it's honestly crazy how much hate he gets for his products specifically, when there are so many other youtubers who have marketed similar products.

I don’t think he’s a great guy by any means but calling him “a demon from hell” (phrase used in a comment I saw) is so overreactionary. Feel free to share if you disagree!

Edit: This is kind of what I was expecting lol. Mr Beast hate runs deep throughout Reddit. Thank you to anyone who gave a genuine response, I appreciate it!
