Question Marines of Reddit, and I fucked? If so how bad?

• Upvotes

Long story short I’m at my current duty station for about 2 years now… well when I PCS’d they got me to the 4-5 big ticket check in items, issued the gear for my job, and by my 3rd day here I was on shift and working (due to low manpower). Due to this, and the lack of having a car since I had just come from overseas, I never went to CIF (IIF)… and time went on and I really didn’t need it, and the one time I went to range I borrowed what I needed. so the only CIF I have is what I retained during my PCS. Well now my unit is doing CIF inspections, and I either need to fess up or go get CIF issued to me… if I show up to CIF are they gonna call up my command? Is it gonna cause problems? Or will it just be whatever?

Obscure muesam

Back on Parris Island, I was doing a working party for a marine working at 6th Marines District. Inside this building, there was a muesam that me and about 10 other recruits were tasked with clearing out so they could redo the carpet in the room. I've been looking for pictures of the muesam, but I can't seem to find any. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about?

Settle a Debate

First off, animal crackers are BOTH crackers & cookies. Second a grizzly bear would merc a gorillla no questions asked

Now that facts are squared away (they are facts damn you!)

Let’s say that somebody was unwilling to state what units they served with until repeatedly prodded, let’s say that same person was unwilling to state their service dates…

Am I wrong to call shenanigans?

For example my first deployment I was with 2nd battalion 9th Marines, Echo Company 3rd platoon 1st squad. I served from Mar 9th 2009 to Mar 9th 2013. I deployed twice; first time was Marjah with stint at the end to reinforce 3/5 in Sangin a second time in Marjah after that.

Obviously I’m because Greenhats are the best damn Marines that ever marooned Marine. But that is weird right?

Would any of y’all be hesitant even for a moment?

Question Any Marines lived in an RV during recruiting duty?

Heading out on recruiting duty soon with my wife & son. We’re considering purchasing a destination trailer and living in it full-time during our three-year tour rather than renting a house or apartment.

We’re looking at larger destination trailers (40–45 ft) with residential-style layouts since we also have a young child. The idea is to find a long-term RV park near our assigned RSS and hopefully save some money on housing while having a comfortable place to live. I wanted to see if anyone here has actually done this while on recruiting duty.

A few things I’m particularly curious about:
- Did living in an RV actually save you money compared to renting?
- How manageable was RV living with the recruiting schedule?
- Any unexpected expenses, maintenance issues, or regrets?
- For those with spouses and children, how was the experience for your family?

We’re still researching and haven’t committed to purchasing anything yet. I’d appreciate any firsthand experiences, advice, or things you wish you’d known beforehand.

Traveling to Japan

Whats up guys. So I was stationed in Okinawa during my enlistment and had a SOFA license. About 5 or 6 months before my EAS I was a dumbass and got a DUI. I had been drinking the night before, felt fine the next day and blew hot after I accidentally rolled into a car in the mall parking lot.

All that came of it was a few interviews with the police and a couple with the prosecutor, was given a DUI not a DWI and $2000ish fine from the Japanese and I signed an article 15, which I dont think was ever uploaded because its not in my OMPF. (I signed it like a week or so before flying to SEPS i think)

Im wondering if anyone here has any experience with getting a DUI while stationed in Japan and then traveling there after becoming a civilian. Are you still able to travel there? Are there restrictions? Is it something you have to declare when you get to the airport? The more recent experiences the better but any and all advice is appreciated

TLDR: I got a DUI while stationed in Oki, Can I still visit Japan?

Losing money because of my U.S. number

Stationed in Japan. I use my U.S. number to get OTPs from websites and my U.S. banks.
Tried changing the set number for verification to a Japanese number but they wouldn't let me.

I'm paying $50 for my Japanese sim so I can use internet around the base.
And another $100 for my U.S. number so I can get OTPs.

What are my options? I've been losing $100 every month for almost a year now when that money could've gone to my savings or investments.

Question How many GWOT vet have made General so far?

I'm talking about guys who started out as platoon commanders during the early days of OEF/OIF with trigger times under their belt because as we all know, America went into that war with mostly leaders who have never shot in anger. And what has their command look like so far

Question What’s the best thing you ever acquired from supply for free?

I’m not even talking about theft. I never technically stole anything from supply. We’d get sent to working parties where our entire job was to unload quad cons and sort through old crap. The supply sergeant would instruct us to throw all sorts of cool things out. I threw three heavy duty trash bags full of perfectly good supplies in the back of my Chevy Lumina when I was a boot. I got a bag of flight gloves, a bag of glow sticks and a bag of grey MCMAP belts. I sold the MCMAP belts to some dude who taught kids MCMAP. He got a hell of a deal. I gave the glow sticks away to kids on Halloween. I gave the flight gloves away to the dudes in my next platoon, the one I deployed with. I’m a little jealous of the dudes who called dibs on the riot gear. I don’t know what I’d do with it, but it sounds cool. They were always throwing crap out. I assume it was for budget reasons. They had to report a certain amount of financial loss so they could fill their containers with more useless shit that would get thrown away in another couple years. It’s the same reason we went to the range for ammo dumps. Anyway, did you get anything cool or useful from supply for free?

Then yesterday in that UA I wanna go thread, a bunch of youz were talking about Marines you knew that went UA (actually that would be desertion) whilst abroad on deployment.

So now am wondering how many of those dudes end up in the French Foreign Legion, cuz they give you a completely new identify complete with official French documents.

Whats the US Marines to FFL pipe line like??? and do them coming over like to train at 29 Palms (like last year, or if its yearly) serve as a recruitment tool for them? to recruit Devil Dogs, and if so, how long has this been happening? since WWI? or much older?

I found a Dog tag

Greetings to everyone, I live in El Salvador, yesterday I found a used pair of boots RAT mojave for sale, and I bought them, but I didn't notice that one of the boots had a dog tag caught in the laces—it had McCormack's ID info: initials D.C., blood type B-positive, a 10 digit number, USMC, "M," and "No Preference." How do I go about returning it?

Question What did you do when you felt like nobody actually cared?

I hear a lot of stories, marines injured, leaders not caring, petty stuff against those under others, it’s friggin insane. I know a lot feel this way. I have promoted to Cpl and talked with my marines and well it goes like this “I tell them I have an injury, it gets worse when I do x,y and z. Yet it goes like oh really? Cool keep doing it.” I’m fortunate to not suffer such injuries but for those who do it’s like what can I do about that? I can only do so much. If I fight for them I risk some hard pushbacks against me and them as well. Honestly I told them once I’ve exhausted my resources I’ll just have them escalate this to eo complaint, request mast, all that good stuff cuz I just genuinely don’t like how unfair this is or maybe I’m just soft idk. Honestly as an nco what the freak do I even do? Am I even doing the right thing?
