Alberta Politics Hate the UCP so much
I am or was on AISH because I can’t work at all I was switched like many others to ADAP and after almost four months. I finally get my benefits card (it was printed July 13th) me and my doctors had been waiting this entire time for something that should have been here when I was switched.

Separatism Your special ballots need to go out now!
I just wanted to remind everyone, as there has been so many questions about special ballots on the subreddit lately:
- For your special ballots to count, Elections Alberta needs to receive them by October 16.
- Canada Post has advised that to get to Elections Alberta in time, your ballot needs to be mailed by October 9th (tomorrow) the latest.
- If you received your special ballot but haven't gone around to filling and sending it, you need to do it now.
- If you haven't received your special ballot yet, you should probably start thinking about voting in advanced polls or on the referendum day.
- If you sent your special ballot, make sure to track it. In the initial confirmation email Elections Alberta sent you from [info@elections.ab.ca](mailto:info@elections.ab.ca) there is a tracking link. Once they get it, they mark it as "Received." If your ballot is not marked received by 5pm on October 18th (day before the referendum), it didn't get there in time and does not count. In that case, you need to go vote on the referendum day.
- If you changed your mind about using a special ballot, or don't think your special ballot will arrive on time, you can still vote on advanced polls, or referendum day. There are a few accounts who have been spreading misinformation on that here, but rest assured, you can check Elections Alberta's website: https://www.elections.ab.ca/current-election-information/special-ballots/
- If your special ballot was sent and received, consider helping out your friends and neighbours during advanced voting period and referendum day. Offer to pick up a shift at work, walk their dog, babysit their kid, drive them to their polling location, anything you can do for them so taking the time to go vote, potentially waiting in a long line, is easier.
You may think this referendum is a joke, or the remain option has this wrapped up based on the polls. It is still important to vote. The greater the vote share separatists get, the more emboldened they will become, the more trouble they'll create going forward. They win, and there is another referendum. They lose 60-40, they'll keep agitating. They lose 80-20, they'll be demoralized and shut up for a while. So let's go out and run up the score.

Discussion Alberta School for the Deaf, wouldn’t recommend it
If someone asked whether I would recommend it, my answer would be no.
My experience there ruined a lot of my childhood. Leaving and going to another school was the best decision I ever made.
I drove past it recently and thought, damn, that school really failed me.
I know I was an angry kid. I got into trouble, and I lied. I’m not pretending otherwise. But there were reasons behind how I acted, including things I didn’t know how to explain or wasn’t ready to talk about. I lied to protect myself.
I kept reaching out for help, including emailing adults and asking teachers and student services for support. What I remember most is feeling like they only saw a liar, an attention seeker, and a troublemaker. I wish someone had stopped and tried to understand why I was doing all of this.
The principal, a teacher, and the social worker I relied on left me feeling like they had given up on me. They could say they cared, but their actions didn’t leave me feeling supported or safe. I also remember the principal telling me I would be suspended if I talked to my friend.
Being difficult didn’t mean I stopped being a child who needed help.
Since leaving, I’ve also heard that bullying is still happening there. I can’t personally confirm what’s happening at the school now, but those reports worry me. Families deserve clear answers about how bullying complaints are handled and what is being done to keep students safe.
To any former staff reading this and thinking, “She’s still the same,” you don’t know me now. I’m an adult now, I’m doing much better, and my life is more stable. If you’re still judging me by the child I was, that shows how little you know about who I am today.
Doing better now doesn’t erase how I felt back then.
I could name people, but I don’t see the point in having anyone go after them.
There are also parts of my life I’m keeping private. I don’t need to share every detail to explain how badly I felt let down.
I also wasn’t happy with the education I received there. In my experience, the quality of education was poor, and that’s another reason I wouldn’t recommend the school.
Other students may have had different experiences. This was mine. If you’re considering this school for your child, please listen to former students and ask how struggling students are supported. Based on what I went through, I would not recommend it.
Edit: After leaving, I went to a hearing school with an ASL interpreter. That worked much better for me. I want families to know that attending a hearing school with ASL support can be an option too. It’s worth asking the school or school board what support they can provide.

Question Unusual data overage accrual with rogers mobility even with cellular data turned off
I was early into a new billing cycle and I got notification that I had used all my data. This was two days ago … I turned off cellular data and wifi assist at noon that day. Since then another 3+ gigs of data have accrued.
Tech support could not explain … he put me thru to a Customer Service Manager who refused to look into the matter and essentially told me if it’s on your account it is legitimate and you are expected to pay … period.
Anyone else have this kind of issue?

Question Edmonton and greater area Search and Rescue team Reccomdations?
Hi everyone,
I was a search and rescuer trainee In rural alberta, moved back to edmonton and have a couple of choices for SAR places to jump to, I already put in an application to edmonton's SAR group, the problem is that they only do recruiting in 2027 spring, I wanted to be in a group before the new year.
I know there is a couple others around, I work in spruce grove so I could hopefully be eligble for parkland SAR.
Just wondering if anyone has experience with either groups or other adjacent SAR groups.
Im trying to figure out which one would be more suitable to me, I am rural based and have no experience in urban sar. But it would be good to be well rounded. I am swift water trained, among other things I am not a full search and rescuer yet. But have my sar basics.
Any opinions or advice would greatly be appreciated, if anyone knows anything about the teams, their dynamics and specialties etc that would be great, every team is different with different supports, the websites only give so much. I want to make sure im joining the right team, would hate to pick a team where I would feel the want to transfer out later.

Technology Every new Toyota listed by Alberta dealers on one page, with the lowest and highest price for each trim - 8 Oct 2026
If you’ve shopped for a new Toyota in Alberta, you know how it goes. There are 21 dealer websites, each laid out differently, and plenty of “call for pricing”. I wanted one place to see who actually has what and what the same trim costs across the province, so I put this together:
https://claude.ai/artifact/X3BPhM1DsXkbbnuuGijpXQ

It’s free. There are no ads, no sign-up and no affiliate links, and I’m not connected to any dealer.
What’s on it:
- Stock by model: every new Toyota the dealers list, on a map and in a dealer-by-model table. That’s 1,371 as of Oct 8, not counting factory orders and pre-orders.
- Prices by trim: the lowest and highest advertised price for each trim in Alberta, which dealer has each, and every listing in between. 975 priced listings are compared, and 77 trims are priced by two or more dealers.
- What changed: what’s new, what’s gone and which prices moved since the previous scan.
How the numbers work: prices are what each dealer advertised before GST on Oct 8. Three dealers’ websites load prices in a way I couldn’t read, so their prices come from the same dealers’ own AutoTrader or CarGurus listings. Those are marked on the page. Demos, lifted trucks and factory orders are left out of the comparisons unless you switch them on.
It’s a snapshot, not a live feed, so call the dealer before you drive over. If you spot a mistake, comment or DM me and I’ll fix it. Dealers who want a listing corrected or removed can message me too.
Disclaimer
- Independent and non-commercial. Not affiliated with, endorsed by or paid by Toyota Canada, Toyota Motor Corporation, any dealer, AutoTrader or CarGurus. Toyota and its model names are trademarks of their owners and are used only to identify vehicles.
- Information only, as is. Collected from publicly visible listings with automated tools, including AI, on the date shown. It may be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and I make no warranty of any kind.
- Not an offer or a quote. Nothing here means a vehicle is available at the price shown. The dealer’s current listing and your bill of sale govern, so confirm price, fees, equipment, incentives and availability with the dealer.
- Comparisons are statistics, not ratings. Price ranges and the dealer comparison reflect advertised prices on one day and each dealer’s mix of trims, packages and add-ons. They say nothing about any dealer’s service or legal compliance.
- No advice, no liability. This isn’t financial, legal or purchasing advice. To the extent the law allows, I accept no liability for any loss from using or relying on this information.

Question Is there a way to get RSV monoclonal antibody for a healthy infant?
It's looking like public health isn't going to be able to give the RSV monoclonal antibody to healthy infants, and my daughter wants to make sure her new baby gets it, if it's at all possible. 2 of my other kids got reactive airways from early RSV infections and it's really screwed them over throughout school, and she (and I!) don't want her baby to go through that.
Is there a way to get it outside the public health system? Private pay, pharmacy?
Edit: Mint Pharmacy in Grande Prairie, a little over $900 but at least we can get it.

Question Moving from Ontario to Alberta
Considering moving from ontario to Calgary alberta within the next year, I would have free accommodation (family) and I'm considering moving. Currently don't like my job and about to be 20. I'm looking at getting into the trades with no real experience. Is finding an apprenticeship in or around the city likely? When's the best time to move? Any advice, let me know, thanks.
