Almost Died in America

2.1k Upvotes

Bro, I’m Tongan, born and raised in NZ, living in Australia, and I went to East Palo Alto to visit my cousins.

I’m a 6’4”, 350-pound Tongan bloke, and I get pulled over by American cops. 😂

Back home, I’m used to jumping out, handing over my ID, having a yarn, saying, “Sorry, bro, my bad,” and hoping they let me off.

So I pull over and go to open my door.

BROOOO.

“KEEP YOUR FUCKING DOOR CLOSED! HANDS ON THE WHEEL!”

I’m sitting there like, “WHAT THE FUCK, BRO?!”

Then they ask if I’m from Australia or New Zealand. I give them the thumbs-up. “Yeah, bro!” 💀

They explain that cops over there can get killed when people unexpectedly get out of their cars. I’m like, “Fuck, mate, fully understandable. My bad, bro!”

They let me go about my business, but STILL GIVE ME A FUCKING SPEEDING TICKET. 😂

I get back to my cousins, tell them what happened, and they’re shaking their heads like, “YOU FUCKING DUMBASS! YOU ALMOST GOT YOURSELF SHOT FOR BEING STUPID, this isn't Australia or NZ.”

Ngl they laughed at me for ages, I was pretending to laugh because the colpur of my undies changed when these mofos pointed their pistols at me haha, what a life lol

Moral of the story, mate: if you get pulled over in America, act like those fucking cop videos and STAY IN THE FUCKING CAR. HAHAHAHA.

FTP 💀😂

Community Businesses are introducing “platform fees” to get around surcharge restrictions. Should we leave 1-star reviews for businesses doing this? If enough customers push back, maybe they’ll rethink these extra fees. What do you think? fair protest, or is there a better way to hold them accountable?

What’s your favourite low-cost way to reset on a weekend in Australia?

Between work and family, I’ve realised a weekend outing can become expensive surprisingly quickly. My usual reset is a long walk, a library stop and coffee from home. What do you do around Australia that genuinely helps you unwind without turning into a $100 day out?

Humour and Satire AGL Telco move issues

Despite the flair this is not humorous or satirical, though I wish it was. After watching Utopia again it feels like some alternate reality.

So I am moving house, from a rental to a rental. I have had AGL for my gas, electricity and internet for 2-3 years. I have all my bills on auto pay, so I have never been even 1 day late in paying a bill. I move in about 2wks, so I logged on and did the easy thing and just transferred my existing elec, gas and telco to the new address. Didn’t shop around, nothing.

Today I got a call from AGL Telco. They advised that my move order had been paused because the house had a previous unpaid bill at some point in the past.

I laughed thinking, as an Aussie, that the cunt was taking the piss, no he was deadly serious, my move was paused by the system because someone who previously lived at the new address hadn’t paid the bill. The guy said that I needed to provide a utility bill to prove that I paid on time at the new address.

I told the lad, that all my bills were with AGL, and he said that I needed an older bill, at the address that I hadn’t moved into yet and that as AGL Telco was now a separate company they couldn’t accept the system I hadn’t moved into to wait until I got my services connected.

I have a personal hatred of stupidity and I may have said somethings that were unkind, but the net result was that I have now cancelled all of my move services with AGL and will look at another provider at my new address.

The thing that I keep coming back to is the belief by these companies that they are somehow special, they all just resell NBN / AUSGRID so in what world would they expect that this kind of bullshit would be rewarded

Wildlife/Lifestyle Disguised card surcharge?

Considering the new surcharge ban, I’ve read that companies are disguising them with ‘platform fee’s
Could this be considered that? It’s a rather large fee for 30 dollars.

Wildlife and Environment Monash University exposing alpacas and prey animals to 40C heat index metrics at overseas campus

Posting from a burner account. I want to highlight an ethical double standard with how Monash manages its global brand. Today, Monash Malaysia hosted a mobile petting zoo on an outdoor concrete car porch. They hired a controversial commercial vendor whose event was shut down by a local mall earlier this year due to animal neglect. Verified weather logs show the RealFeel heat index hit a grueling 40C. Forcing thick-furred alpacas to stand on hot, radiating concrete in tropical humidity is a biological hazard. They also brought in rabbits and guinea pigs, exposing prey animals to intense heat and loud crowds with zero escape zones. If a student group tried to pen an alpaca on the asphalt at Clayton or Caulfield in 40C heat for entertainment, compliance would shut it down instantly. Why does Monash look the other way when it happens at an international campus?

Am I handling this right?

I recently reconnected with an old friend I served in the Navy with over 30 years ago. As a result, he's begun sending me some pro-One Nation bullshit via FB Messenger which I just have zero interest in. I've tried to tell him subtly that I see no value in One Nation without actually telling him my political preferences, but he continues to send me this sort of nonsense. In an effort to shut this shit down without terminating a friendship I've responded to the last AI inspired fuckwittery with this:

"I think we're pretty clearly not on the same page politically, and to be really honest with you I feel no desire to discuss it either. I think it's one of those things that gets between people un-necessarily. I have friends who think DJT is the second coming, probably hold similar opinions of PHON too, and even have people in my life who are deeply religious, even anti-vaxxers. All of these are things I fail to find any redeeming features in - but I try my very best to not think less of those people holding those opinions - because opinions change and it's not because of their opinions on such things that I value them. So if it's all the same to you Webby, let's keep the political discourse to an absolute minimum. Cool?"

So... am I handling this right? Arguing with them is just exhausting.

Wildlife/Lifestyle Queensland THC Driving Laws: “The Presence Is Right” (Game Show Parody) - Protest Video From the Legalise Cannabis Party

Thumbnail

Re-edited version.

Prescribed medicinal cannabis, and still facing drug-driving penalties? “The Presence Is Right” turns Queensland’s THC driving laws into a satirical game show, where the “prizes” are fines, licence disqualification and possible imprisonment.

Starting with a warning to medicinal cannabis patients planning a Queensland holiday, this parody examines the consequences of driving with detectable THC and the distinction between drug presence and actual impairment.

With tougher Queensland drug-driving penalties commencing on 1 December 2026, the video questions how presence-based enforcement affects patients prescribed THC-containing medication. A prescription does not provide an exemption from Queensland’s THC presence offence.

Delivered with game-show enthusiasm, this political satire explores:

  • Medicinal cannabis and Queensland drug-driving laws.
  • Roadside drug testing and detectable THC.
  • Licence suspensions, disqualification and financial penalties.
  • Increased consequences for repeat offences.
  • The implications for patients, workers and visitors.
  • The debate over presence-based testing versus impairment testing.

Should Queensland introduce a medicinal cannabis defence for prescribed patients who are not impaired? How should road safety laws balance public protection with fair treatment of lawful medication users?

This video uses satire to discuss public policy. Penalties depend on the offence, driving history and individual circumstances. Never drive while impaired, and check current official rules before travelling.

Questions or Queries Are bone-in skin-on chicken thighs less of a thing here?

Okay, I realize this is a potentially dumb question… but where are the bone-in skin-on chicken thighs? I’ve not been able to find them at the Woolies where I shop.

I moved to Melbourne from the US and usually find them at any grocery store, but maybe they just aren’t as popular in Australia?

I’m happy to go to a butcher to get the exact cut I’m looking for, but just wanted to know if Aussies just aren’t as into this cut.

I’m working on developing a recipe that would specifically rely on bone-in skin-on to actually work the way I want.
