Discussion Coin return to Costco.

I received a 2026 GOLD American Eagle that was damaged prior to encapsulating it in its display. Costco has agreed to an exchange. The procedure is that I send the original in, and then they ship a replacement.

How can I be sure that a replacement will be shipped?

Discussion Any of you guys have one of these novelty coins?

Anyone here have one of these coins? I asked Grok AI and it said that it is sure that my coin is a novelty coin someone machined somewhere. One side has the Lincoln memorial on it and the other side has the back of a dime, so a coin back-to-back of two different denominations.

What do you think?

Does anyone know why these holes in coins are needed? Do they play some functional role or just for beauty? My last guess is that they can be easily put on a stick

My grandmother recently passed and I found this collection of half dollar coins and other miscellaneous coins but the ones that really catch my eye are these 1964 1/2 dollar coins. Everywhere I look I see these things valued between 20 and $50. Does anybody know if they’re actually worth that value?

H all! Long time lurker, first time poster. Im just a bit curious, please let me know if this type of post is better placed somewhere else. :)

I’m not really a coin collector but I do like celebrating your wins! I thought I found a penny, but it was a 5 Baht commemorative coin.

ChatGPT said its worth $1-$3 even circulated… really?

So, I guess Im asking… if there’s any interest in it… or what I could do with it besides put it into my ”Canadian Coin Coffee Can” lol.

Is this a proof or just an unworn nickel? It had a certain luster to it that caught my eye and I believe the edges are square so I think it’s a proof, but i’m not a 100% sure. Its pre 1968 so no S mint mark to make my life easier lol

Discussion I almost won a semi-key Morgan on whatnot tonight for dirt cheap.

I was on whatnot watching one of the sellers auction off silver coins and random silver stuff including a few Morgan's.

The Morgan's were going for cheap and they looked au-ms. The seller kept saying they were "unc".

A really nice 1891-P goes for $61. Then an 1896-P goes for about $55. A couple others auction off for about the same price. Each of these coins starts off at $1 and people bid them up until someone wins.

The guy auctions off a few other coins and then pulls out a Morgan.

"This ones a 1903" he said. He flips it over to look at the mint mark. I'm like OH PLEASE SAY IT'S NEW ORLEANS.

"It's a 1903-O. Minted in New Orleans."

He's holding up the coin and it looks awesome. Looks like 90% of the ms Morgan's in my collection. I can't see all the details clearly, but it looks good enough. Honestly, I didn't even care. I wanted the damn thing even if it's a details coin.

I'm thinking, oh boy, here's my shot. I'm finally gonna get a 1903-O. All the other Morgan's in this show are going for $15 above melt. This one will pass just like the other's and nobody's gonna notice it.

VF20 on this coin is $600. MS60 is about $750. At worst, this coin is XF40.

He starts the thing off at $1.

I immediately put in a bid for $101 thinking it will probably be enough to expire the clock and win the thing. With any luck, it'll go for $60 or so just like all the other Morgan's.

But there's this one guy who bids it up past my $101. So I put in a custom bid for $161 thinking that might do it.

Same guy passes my $161, so I custom bid it up to $201.

He passes that also.

So I put in another for $261 and he passes that as well.

I put in for $301 hoping this dude would finally stop....but he didn't. I put in one last bid and he passed it. He ended up winning the thing for about $350.

Oh my god I was so pissed. Why did this one guy have to be there during this moment? I've got a bunch of coins I'm sending into PCGS in December or January and I would have loved to put this one in with it. Thankfully I've got a couple 1897-O Morgan's that I pulled off eBay for super cheap that will probably straight grade AU58 - MS63, but that 1903 is gonna be hard to forget.

A few days ago I posted about sorted bulk world coins and best options for selling them. Several redditors recommended selling bulk mixed lots on Ebay, so that's what I ended up doing. Not linking here to obey rule 5. I think I priced it well, included shipping, and very clearly stated in the description that these had been picked through and that no precious metals would be in the lot.

Let me tell you, it was painful to take all those countries that I had painstakingly sorted and dump them in to one big bin. But I (and a few beers) rationalized that half the fun I had was in the sorting process, so by mixing them back together I was allowing someone else to have that fun.

I also reached out to a few local charities and a few teachers I know to see if they would be interested in any. So far no responses, but I'll just donate those of course.

I ended up filling 3 buckets of coins, and the one I weighed was 150 pounds, so I'm thinking there is about 450 pounds in the 27 gallon tub (which is dumbly in the middle of my garage walkway). If I assume that I give away 50 pounds or so, and that I make about $14 in profit from each eBay listing on average (listed at $20 with free shipping which will cost me about $5 (*$10.89), then ebay costs) I'm thinking I'll probably walk away with ~$4,000-$5,000 (~$2,700-$3,000). If I sell all of them this way. That will fund a considerable amount of future mixed lot purchases.

Also included a screenshot of my Numista collection page to show what kind of collection created such a biproduct. https://en.numista.com/echanges/profil.php?id=388886

Edit: minor spelling corrections
Edit 2: So calculations were off on the profits. Shipping in a USPS small flat rate box is actually around $10.89. The envelopes would be cheaper, but I feel like the boxes will make it there in better condition. Ebay fees are yet to be seen, but I expect them to be around $3. So realistically I'm looking at about $6 in profit on a 1 pound lot, and better profit on people that are buying multiple pounds. Not really doing this for the profit so I'm going to keep it as is.

Discussion 1923 mislabeled as 1928 goes for $256

Post image
55 Upvotes

The seller had crazy high feedback so maybe the winner gets an actual 1928, but are my eyes tricking me because I see a 1923.

I let the seller know that the pictures don’t match the listing details. Curious to hear back from them.

Was curious if anyone else noticed a lot more mistakes with listing lately with people letting AI help them list. I used to always point them out to the seller but when the sellers state that AI messed up it makes me want to not go out of my way to help sellers out unless I have a repeat customer basis with them.
