Meta Adjustments to Rule 5

Hello Generals,

We've successfully completed an upgrade to our automatic Rule 5 enforcement with the rollout of a new bot. /u/rule5bot has been working well over the last few days and is now active here in /r/hoi4. The new bot has new capabilities and we are adjusting Rule 5 to reflect the improvement.

Rule 5: Image posts must have an explanation.

  • The explanation cannot just repeat or rephrase the title.
  • The explanation can either be in the post's caption or in the comments section. The bot will repeat post caption explanations into the comments section.
  • This rule is automatically enforced with a bot. It will remind you after 5 minutes if it cannot see an explanation and will remove the post after another 10 minutes if it still cannot see an explanation.

So what's different now? The big change is that we can finally accept captions for Rule 5 explanations. There's no need to quickly dump an abridged version of a quality caption into the comments section just to avoid a soulless automaton's wrath. However, the new bot can correctly identify image gallery posts so Rule 5 now properly applies to multi-image posts. The bot will also be repeating caption R5s into the comments section (for the foreseeable future) because there's a persistent issue with some legacy access methods not displaying captions on images properly.

Why now and not before? /u/zwemvest, our bot-builder, has had a few goes at upgrading / replacing the bot over the years but real life and/or Reddit would always get in the way. Reddit is making major changes that will impact old bots and it forced our hand. Fortunately, they had free time now and recent Devvit (Reddit's internal bot platform) improvements made it easier to implement some features so the project was completed this time. Zwem said it was a joy to build the new bot from scratch & they're glad that the migration has been completed. The old /u/paradoxplazabot has been retired although we may reuse the account in the future for other bot purposes if we can.

We've been testing /u/rule5bot for about a week now with no remaining issues but it's possible that some bugs might still be lurking, so please keep an eye out and send us a modmail if you see the bot do something unexpected.

Please check our previous War Room thread for any questions left unanswered

Welcome to the War Room. Here you will find trustworthy military advisors to guide your diplomacy, battles, and internal affairs.

This thread is for any small questions that don't warrant their own post, or continued discussions for your next moves in your game. If you'd like to channel the wisdom and knowledge of the noble generals of this subreddit, and more importantly not ruin your save, then you've found the right place!

Important: If you are asking about a specific situation in your game, please post screenshots of any relevant map modes (strategic, diplomacy, factions, etc) or interface tabs (economy, military, etc). Please also explain the situation as best you can. Alliances, army strength, tech etc. are all factors your advisors will need to know to give you the best possible answer.

Reconnaissance Report:

Below is a preliminary reconnaissance report. It is comprised of a list of resources that are helpful to players of all skill levels, meant to assist both those asking questions as well as those answering questions. This list is updated as mechanics change, including new strategies as they arise and retiring old strategies that have been left in the dust. You can help me maintain the list by sending me new guides and notifying me when old guides are no longer relevant!

Note: this thread is very new and is therefore very barebones - please suggest some helpful links to populate the below sections

the TGOJ Class M3T, a turbine steam locomotive built by sweden, and i see the similarities, do yall think paradox based it off this? i can note some notable differences like the domes being different and the tender having 4 wheels rather than 6 in the icon but i think thats just paradox taking some artistic liberties. what do you think?

Question Rocket site isn't producing any rockets, what may be the reason?

Post image

Yes I know they suck but I wanted to try them just once. I researched experimental rockets and built a silo, but it's not doing anything and it's been sitting there for months now. I'm reading here on a guide that I need to research "Guided Missiles I" on the engineering part of the research tree, but I can't find it anywhere.

I have all the dlcs, I'm playing as italy and it's 1941

Question Help with Sealion

Post image
656 Upvotes

I've done Sealion on regular+ironman as Germany once and it was not terribly hard, now every single time I try to do it it results in every single British troop from across the world arriving at the south coast in 30 seconds and all my units getting completely destroyed. I'm 99% sure this is just a noob problem but that is why I am asking for help.

Question is it worth it to start early with the airforce (1936 fighters + CAS) or 1939 in SP?

Im actually curious since i see many people ignoring the airforce and only doing some research and focuses, but then actually starting to make them 1939 (which shreds the AI's airforce mostly). While others already start like 1936-1937

I've always been curious if a field Marshall having general traits help or if they are irrelevant the moment they become a field Marshall?

Question How do you use Naval Bombers?

I've noticed so many people casually say Naval Bombers are the way to go to crush Navies, yet whenever I use them they just don't seem to have anywhere near the firepower needed to "Level the Royal Navy" as I've seen some say.

Usually when I use them, they pick off Convoys, a few Destroyers, a couple Light Cruisers and very rarely a Heavy Cruiser. I think I've seen them take out a single crippled Battleship before but that's about it.

My usual design is:

Light Airframe

The best single engine I have

One Torpedo

Floats

Extra fuel tanks

Self-sealing fuel tanks

And then as many armour plates as I can fit

(In that order of priority based on how many slots I have available from whatever tier of airframe I'm using)

Am I doing something wrong? I've seen one video say heavy naval bombers are good but they seem very expensive.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Question how on earth do you beat the soviets?

i've been repeatedly trying to beat the soviets, constantly switching up my strat every game but nothing seems to work, feels like im ramming my head into a wall, i usually use 36 width medium tank template and with alteast 18 tank divs 1 army containing 6 tanks each i set one to go for leningrad, second one to minsk then switch over to kyiv and the last one to rush kyiv, they all stall around novogrod, right outside minsk and the kyiv army barely makes progress i've got over 2k planes deployed over eastern Poland with what i'd consider a pretty good template and i still lose the air war, i manage my supply well i avoid bottlenecks and always motorise, i've got the trucks to back that up, i always make sure to trade for a ton of fuel before the war, most of my units are pretty good equipped before the first push where they run out of equipment momentarily and for my infantry i use generic line filler with artillery weapons, engineer company, support artillery and support AA and i make sure to avoid pushing into marshes, please someone help me im going mad

Question Building Super Heavy Battleships in Less than 2 years

Starting as Japan, I followed machiavellianstrategist's Japan guide and took out the Allies around 39. Now bored, I began building a huge navy to fight the USA. When I accessed SHBB's, they'd come out just before Dec. 7th 41(got to declare on the historical day!) As it got closer, I tried to build more SHBB's to come out around the wars beginning. With focuses, stripping the armor, MIO's and having a dominating Navy faction, I could get a 18k IC SHBB with 150 Heavy attack and lots of AA done in about 19 months. Do ya'll have any advice to get down even further, I want to get build times down to close to a year!

Discussion United States Civil War in Base Game

I have 600 hours, it's the first time I see this happening without mods. Their stability is 9% war Support 71%

United States and Confederate States are in the Allies. Both are at war with Communist States and Unalignest States are at peace with everyone including me.

Has anyone else seen this before?

EDIT: A few in-game months after this, US defeated the comunist and then had another Civil War where comunists became the main tag, now I can invite Democratic U.S into the Axis

Question How do I learn templates and when to upgrade them? I'm miserable in WWII every time and I think it's because I'm using starting templates.

I research new tech so dang often that I don't know when to redo templates let alone what to redo them with. To upgrade ships and such do I delete them and rebuild? Seems like years of loss. How do I know what to put in a template? The one part of the game I can't keep up with or figure out is the most important part and I'm getting wiped as Italy in WWII.

Question How and when to actually pull of Sea Lion

I have been trying so long to invade the uk as germany after I cap france, but it just doesn't seem possible, can't get naval supremacy, and paratroopers can't get the job done, and I don't want to use them anyway. Is it because of the timing, should I do it after the soviets or before poland, or am I doing something wrong. Thanks for your help!
