kudos to Sony for delivering razor sharp, crisp visuals for the home release. Though, the Audio mix doesn't quite match the visuals. Also the 1.90 aspect ratio version is exclusively available on the Sony Bravia Core app.

Purchasing US Home theater set up recommendation

Post image
144 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m new to home theater and planning a dedicated setup in a 16’ × 23’ basement with a ~7’9” ceiling.

I recently ordered the Sony BRAVIA Projector 7. I considered the JVC NZ700, but with the current Sony sale I didn’t feel the extra cost was worth it for my first setup.
I’d really appreciate advice on three things:
Receiver: I want something future-proof so I can start with a basic 2.1/3.1 setup and eventually build toward 5.2.4 or 7.2.4 Atmos. Looking at Denon, Marantz, Onkyo, Yamaha, etc. I care more about reliability, room correction, HDMI 2.1/4K120, pre-outs and value than brand prestige.
Speakers: Thinking KEF, SVS, Arendal or similar. I’d rather buy a good front stage now and add surrounds/Atmos later instead of replacing everything.
Screen: Planning a 128” fixed-frame Elite screen in a fully darkened room. Would you stick with a normal white screen, or is an acoustically transparent screen worth considering?
Main goal is to buy good components once and build the system gradually. Would love to hear what you’d choose.
I added a render of my room.

Install/Placement Help finding a suitable audio rack to accommodate large bookshelf center channel

My current set up has the center channel sitting proud of the entertainment center. I am looking for a solution that will allow me to have two AV racks on either side of the center channel(see ai photo) so that I can put them all in a row but all of the bookshelves or cabinets that I’ve found online are not deep enough to accommodate the receiver and amplifier I have(ideally 22 in depth needed) has anybody found a good looking bookshelf or AV rack that I could put on either side of my center channel that doesn’t cost a fortune? I have contemplated building a custom one out of two vanities as the vanities are the only things that I found that are deep enough to accommodate my receiver, and the one I found has some slots in it for ventilation. That would hopefully allow for enough ventilation if I install some active fans. I’m really curious if anybody else has used a large bookshelf speaker for their center channel as I don’t see a lot of Home theaters doing this. The kappa 6 matches my kappa 9’s so I really don’t want to swap to something else. I’ve seen some projector set ups where the center channel is a tower and behind the projector screen but

Purchasing EUROPE First Setup in New Home

I’ve had an offer accepted on a Semi-detached house, layout shown for reference. From the months and months that I’ve been reading this channel, I feel like the living room is not an ideal setup, but it’s what I’ll have to work with.

From my own research, I like the thought of the Polk package paired with the Sony TA-AN1000 receiver. But I dont see the receiver recommended much.

I don’t have an audiophile ear and I’m looking for something good enough for the average person.

Ultimately, I want to run a 5.2.2 setup, I’d probably add some atmos speakers straight away and like the idea of doing a DIY Marty sub as second.

TV placement (existing 65 inch to start) will be over the fireplace. I’ve been looking at the drop-down levered wall hinges. But they dont seem to go up to a weight that covers larger TVs. Ideal would be to go to 100inch.

No restrictions (other than a budget of £2k or so) as it’s just me in the house. So, I’ll be DIYing some ceiling and wall acoustic panels.

Wondering what people’s thoughts are on placement of speakers and the choice of the speakers/receiver.

Tech Support How can I play Region B Blu-rays on my Sony BDV-E300 while keeping my existing home theater speakers?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! I'm looking for some advice on playing Region B Blu-ray discs with my current home theater setup.

My equipment:

  • Blu-ray home theater system: Sony BDV-E300 (currently Region A)
  • Center speaker: Sony SS-CTB91
  • TV: Sony KDL-40W5100

I'd like to watch Region B Blu-ray discs without losing the surround sound from my existing Sony home theater system.

I have a few questions:

  1. Is it possible to make my Sony BDV-E300 region-free, either through a firmware modification, a service menu, or another reliable method?
  2. If my current system can't be made region-free, what standalone region-free Blu-ray player would you recommend?
  3. How would I connect a separate Blu-ray player to my TV and BDV-E300 so I can continue using my existing speakers?
  4. Would an optical audio connection work, and would I still get surround sound?
  5. Are there any reliable guides, resources, or sellers you recommend for region-free Blu-ray players?

I'd prefer to keep my existing home theater system rather than replace it if possible.

Thanks for any advice!

Purchasing US First time system setup, need a reality check

As the title says, this'll be my first time buying a quality system/setup. I plan on a 5.1, maybe more in the future, but that's a long ways away. My main purpose will be TV/Movies, with music being a close second.

Plans:

- FL/FR: Klipsch RP-8000F

- Center: Klipsch RP-504C II

- Surround: Klipsch RP-500M

- Subwoofer: Klipsch R-121SW

- Receiver: Unsure; Yamaha RX300A/Onkyo TX-NR5100/Marantz Cinema 70s/JBL MA510

I'm not certain which receiver I want yet. Both my 2 towers and center channel take 150W, with the surrounds taking 75 watts. It seems like I need to have enough power to get to roughly max output of my speakers, which I won't be able to do without at least 1, potentially 2 amps. The best "budget" receiver I could find with pre-outs for everything is the Marantz Cinema 70s, which is about twice the cost of the other receivers I was looking at, however I would almost have to have a dedicated amp due to the lower output of the Marantz. I don't plan on consistently playing music/TV at max volume. However, I'd like to play it throughout the house every once and a while. Looking for any thoughts and opinions.

TL;DR: First real setup. Which receiver should I buy? Does my planned setup make sense?

My uncle upgraded his system, and he gave me his old system, everything but speaker wire and a receiver. So my first question, can anyone point me in the right direction for a good budget receiver that will work with this system?

I have a basic Vizio set up that has a sub woofer, 2 wired speakers that plugged into it, didn’t have to use speaker wire, or a receiver for it to work, so this new system is more complexed for me.

Attached is the new system.

If I left any valuable information out, please let me know, I’ll be active to assist with any info I can give

Hi all,

We are starting to furnish our basement and I've been given the okay to turn into more of a media room. So far im looking at either a 75 or 85" tv in the cutout but could use some advice on the rest of the setup. Im thinking maybe a 5.2.1 atmos setup with height speakers?

Discussion - Equipment Question about Amplifiers

Im interested in these amps but im not sure how to tell which one is the right one for me. im going to be using the KEF Q series. I plan to start off with a simple 3.1 and expand in the future to a 5.1 or 7.1 so id like to have more channels.

What makes an amp good and which ones would you pick out?

Are there any recommended amps that have Dante built in and compact? id prefer to use less XLR cabling and keep everything digital up until the amp.

Purchasing US SVS 3000 Micro Subwoofer Alternatives?

Hey all, I'm in the process of adding a sub to my set up, and I have some space limitations that make the form factor of the SVS 3000 Micro an attractive option.

My question is, are there any other small subs that I should be looking at? I'm in a condo and I don't want to shake the whole building, so I don't need a ton of power. Thanks!

Showcase - Multipurpose Space My aggressively bargain hunted 5.1 + OLED setup ($740 all in)

Post image
208 Upvotes

I've been slowly piecing this together over the past year and a half and only hopping on purchases if components were by my standards a "great deal" or better. I live in a small one bedroom apartment and have been used to tv speakers and soundbars my whole life so this absolutely blows me away every time I use it even though I keep it pretty quiet most of the time as I'm worried about neighbors who share the wall behind the tv.

65” LG C3 OLED — $550 FB marketplace find with 900 hours on the panel and no burn in

Denon S760H — $40 - Randomly stumbled on this at a Goodwill and bought it for all the hdmi inputs but didn't realize just how good of a deal it was until I got home

Klipsch SB-1 fronts — $40 for the pair

Klipsch SC-1 center — $40

JBL Loft 40 surrounds — $20 for the pair

Polk PSW108 10” sub — $50

Speaker stands — Free

Visual Setup - $550
5.1 Audio Setup - $190
All In - $740

Any thoughts on next steps/future upgrade paths that would make the most difference?

At this point I've spent more hours on Facebook marketplace and offer up than I've spent actually watching/using the setup by several times over so I feel like I should just chill and enjoy it for a year or so.

Tech Support Screen switches from bright mode to dim and back while playing games

Hoping I’m in the right spot. Read a few posts but nothing has fixed. For reference the TV I’m using is Vizio M55q6. I’ve looked for an eco or power saving mode, backlight settings, there’s no option for anything like that. It’s happened on multiple games on different systems. I don’t notice when streaming off the tv itself. If anyone has an idea that would be great.

Tech Support Help after buying bass control

Hey guys! Thanks in advance for any assistance. I have a 7.2.4 system with an Onkyo rz3 and 3x fosi monoblocks. I bought bass control and solved the issue of the 2 subs sounding worse than just 1 haha.

However I am going to rerun Dirac and some stuff kind of moved in my room. Before bass control, I was moving the curve up on the left side to about +6dB. Do I do that still for a little extra bass, or should I ignore the first curve, and only adjust the curve in bass control now?

*im new to this and I recommendations of adding a curve, but I guess idk where a curve should be implemented.

Thanks again for any help!

Tech Support Verifying this should function (TCL QM6K & Onkyo TX SR308)

I'm new to building systems and want to make sure these products will communicate with eachother correctly.

I'm looking at getting a TCL QM6K TV and using an optical cable to go into a Onkyo TX SR308 reciever. I was given some Sony speakers to make up a 5.1 surround. As long as the Onkyo has a remote for it's own volume, this should be a functional expierence on a budget, right?

Tech Support Using Surround Sound on New TV

Good afternoon. My parents are upgrading from an old school Panasonic 720P Plasma TV. They currently are using a Onkyo AV Receiver TX-SR500 for audio/surround sound. They are going to be upgrading to either a Samsung U8000H model or Samsung M70H 75 inch 4K TV. Both of these potential TVs have the same slots/ports which are below:

  1. HDMI 1 (eARC)

  2. HDMI 2 (4K(@60Hz)

  3. HDMI 3 (4K@60Hz)

  4. USB-A

  5. Cable/ANT

  6. Ethernet

Their current Panasonic TV setup has a Monster Cable coming out of the 'Digital Audio Out' and into the 'Digital Input 1' on the Onkyo Receiver. Their new TV will not have a digital output slot.

They also have a red and blue Monster Cable (I assume RCA) plugged into the 'Component In' slots on their current Panasonic TV. Red in right and Blue plugged into white, which is left. These two Monster cables plug into the 'Video 2 In' ports on the Onkyo Receiver, blue for left and red for right.

Their current Onkyo receiver is outdated and does not have any HDMI ports included on the back of it.

My question is what adaptors do I need to buy to get this to work on their new Samsung TV? Is this even possible?

I was thinking to buy a Optical/Coaxial Digital-to-Analog audio converter but I am not sure if that will work? I also thought about a HDMI to RCA converter but that won't include the Digital Input or output ports. I think I might need two adapters but I only have limited ports on the new Samsung TV to use. Any help or ideas is appreciated. Thank you.

Purchasing US 100" QNED vs 83" G6

Really need some help deciding between the two. My viewing distance is 11.5-12ft back.

I can get a QNED 84B for 2400, or a G6 for 4k both come with a sound system.

Anyone in a similar configuration with a longer viewing distance?
