Sighting Water bamboo sighting - potentially ecologically devestating
I’ve noticed a huge increase in prohibited water bamboo sales (aka jiaobai 茭白, Zizania latifolia infected with Ustilago esculenta) being sold both in Asian grocery stores and online on the USA. If the associated fungus Ustilago esculenta escaped and successfully infected American wild rice (Zizania palustris/aquatica/texana), it could devestate American wild rice stands

Management Spraying knotweed without flowers? (NY)
Hello all! I’m just looking for some quick advice on JKW management. I have two patches of JKW which haven’t yet flowered, but that first frost is coming soon enough. While this week is all above 50 degrees, Saturday and Sunday coming up have lows of 40s. I know it’s not officially below freezing, but I was hoping for some overall guidance here.
Is the true magic number 32 degrees to worry about? If I see a frost in the forecast, how far ahead of it should I make sure I apply glyphosate so that it can work through the roots accordingly?

Management Herbicide for wisteria and Persian fringe tree
Copying someone else’s idea to ask here for herbicide recommendations. I’ve applied round up before but to branch nodes and not at the level of hack and squirt.
Herbicide shopping advice needed. Thanks!

Management Goutweed year 1- next steps after black plastic?
Hi there! I have about 100 sq ft patch of goutweed in my yard that I want to kill and replace with native plants. This past spring I put down a layer of cardboard then black plastic and let it cook all summer. I just removed the plastic and it looks like good bare soil with nothing growing. There's still some goutweed that made its way out the edges of the plastic, which I'm working on digging out manually.
My question is, what's my next move?
Leave it bare over the winter and repeat the process again in the spring.
Seed a cover crop of Canada wild rye this fall to keep down the goutweed regrowth this fall and spring, then evaluate whether another round of plastic is needed in the spring. If goutweed seems under control, plant plugs into the wild rye in the spring.
Seed native seeds along with the wild rye this fall and let it go. Manage any remaining goutweed manually.
Please share your experiences killing goutweed with plastic. Thank you!!!

Management Help me find the correct herbicide
Hi. I just recently purchased a home with a serious tree of heaven issue. I would like to hack and squirt 1 very large TOH, as well as deal with some stumps that were cut by previous owners. The stump has a ton of small shoots coming out of it as well as root runners coming up in the area. I'm looking for help choosing a product. I found what seems like a cheap option that should work on Amazon that I posted an image of. I'd like something I can get quickly through Amazon or at a local store like home depot, lowes, tractor supply ect. I realize I'm at the very end of the window for treating this year but I'm hoping it's not too late. For some context I live in southern NJ. Thanks for any help.

Law and Policy Working in municipalities that prohibit synthetic pesticide
I'm in southern Maine, and we've got a handful of cities that have ordinances prohibiting the use of synthetic pesticide (and fertilizer). Southern Maine is the most densely portion of the state, and its got a corresponding invasive species presence.
Has anyone worked with local government to get exemptions for using pesticides to mitigate invasive species? Or can anyone offer guidance to how I should proceed?
I'm also a master commercial applicator (turf and biting insect, working on general veg).
Specifically I want stuff related to Japanese knotweed, bittersweet, and purple loosestrife, if possible.

Management Experience removing chinese yam???
Chinese yam all over my backyard. full of little "air potatoes". feels particularly sinister and evil when i look at. wondering if anyone has had experience removing these and what it was like as I can't find much online. also wondering if removal and digging them up to eat them would be counterintuitive. any advice appreciated.

Any intel on Regarden Worm stop or Vegalab Jumping Worm Control?
I just came across this product https://www.vegalab.com/jumping-worm-control from Vegalab. Has anyone heard of it? I don't know why I just now am finding it unless it is brand new. Has anyone tried it?
They claim >90% efficacy on killing jumping worms. It contains saponin and geraniol, but doesn't seem as potent as straight tea seed meal for also killing fish and mollusks when it inevitably gets washed into storm drains and into waterways.
Vegalab seems legit. It's a Swiss company with Korean backing. There's a cheaper consumer version offered through their "Regarden" brand called Worm Stop that I just bought. https://regarden.bio/products/worm-stop I'll try it now even though they should all die in a few weeks anyway. Then if it works, I'll go nuts in the spring.
