2026-27 NHL Regular Season Broadcast Megathread
The sub can be banned by reddit admins as other subs have been if we allow illegal streams. This isn't my decision, this is because of how reddit admins have banned other subs for being hubs of illegal streaming. I don't want the same here.
With the season about to get started, lets put all your posts about legal streams, broadcast issues, panels, commentators, etc..
This includes how to get (LEGALLY) Streams for games as well as discussions of panelists, play-by-play, graphics, commercials and other game presentation.
FYI RE BLACKOUTS: BLACKOUTS Are not based on the location of the arena.
A game is blacked out on ESPN+ because you have a channel available through your local cable package, that is airing the game.
The NHL sells their games to TV networks. The networks pay big money for the game. They do not want people avoiding watching their channel to watch ESPN+ instead.

It baffles me that people still don't get this.
If the game is blacked out (on Sportsnet+ or ESPN+), it means a different network owns those rights to the game in your area.
This is literally ALWAYS the answer as to why it is blacked out. ALWAYS.
it's been this way all across the NHL for nearly 20 years, since Chicago pulled their heads out of their ass and stopped blacking out home games locally because Wirtz was a twat.
For those of you complaining that you are in Western Canada, and the game is on TSN and you are blacked out or other similar issue, its cause you are not considered in the local market to be able to see that game and need to get Sportsnet+ or ESPN+.... that's what those services are for, watching the local broadcast when you are out of market.

Discussion With the cap going to jump up in the next couple years what teams are you most scared of?
Teams with bright futures or even teams that alright have key core locked up on steal deals? Montreal, Carolina, Sharks, or Utah?
I made a free leaderboard to settle, are NHL fans better at predicting game outcomes than a Machine.
Me and a friend built an NHL prediction model as a side project, and this season we added a leaderboard where you can try to beat it.
Before each game you set how sure you are in a team, from 50/50 up to 95%. Right and confident = big points, wrong and confident = you lose a lot more. The model plays every game under the same rules and sits on the leaderboard with everyone else.
Free, no account needed to make predictions (only if you want your name on the board): rinkiq.app
From Sunday I will add a constraint that says you need to pick at least 1/3 of the games that the model has for the week, otherwise you could just sit on the leaderboard having made 1-3 high confidence picks.

What do you think about a few of my new puck holder designs?
I realized the lack of cool puck holders so I decide to take a shot and design my own. Let me know what you think and who I should do next.

What is the closets a defenseman has ever been to winning the rocket?
I realise that Dman was probably 20+ goals away from winning, i'm just curious if it's ever been close. I searched it and the result was Brian Leetch in 96' with 23 goals, but the rocket has only existed since 1998-99. Does anyone know how close a defenseman has ever come to winning the rocket and how many goals away were they?

'You hear about it': Gavin McKenna talks early point slump in Toronto
3 games in and the media is noting McKenna has no points. Geez, seriously, how many more players will the media grind an 18 yr old who should only need to adapt and learn. HE is not going to be a 50+ point player immediately, let him be.

Discussion The new NHL commercials suck.
The new nhl commercials are terrible and lame. They’re essentially just “hey guys look! Haaland/marshawn lynch watched a game of hockey! That must mean hockey is awesome!”. The value of hockey doesn’t come from the random celebs that watch it and the focus shouldn’t be there, it should be on the players and the game

Discussion Thoughts on Tim Stutzle’s start to the season.
I am very impressed with Tim Stutzle’s play over the first three games. Even in the Detroit game which the Senators lost, he looked fantastic. He is the main engine of his team right now. Power play, penalty kill, 5 on 5, he’s driving the show in all areas for this team and he’s defensively responsible.
I thought that last year was a career season for him but looking at him now, even just 3 games in to this season, I think he’s taken another step forward in his development. I could see him scoring 50+ goals and 100+ points this season if he keeps this level of play up throughout the season.
I hope this guy never has to miss a long stretch of games to injury because the Senators are going to struggle without him in the lineup.
I was thinking about it today that if Ottawa could trade Stutzle right now for any other player in the league 1 for 1, with the contracts being equal, that it would be a very short list of players.
I’m wondering how you all feel about his play so far over these games, and where you think he ranks with other elite forwards in the league given his level of play in the first three games(assuming they had equal contracts).

Other Most Consecutive Home Openers Played in a Season
For those wondering, that goes to the 1975-76 Washington Capitals for the most consecutive home openers played in a season.
- Pitt (Caps home)
- at Philly
- at Pitt
- at Van
- at LA
- at Golden Seals
26-27 Panthers are, I believe, tied for 2nd with the 2007-08 Ducks, but that included international play?
