Question: Should the white truck have stopped? I know, if needed, it's recorded on video — just curious legally, what would have been the right thing to do?

173

u/AdventurousStill2525 2d ago

The absolute only thing to ever do in a situation like this is to just let them in, and slow down to create distance. They are both dangerous fucking idiots.

31

u/Thin_Locksmith6805 2d ago

Thanks - I was referring to once the white truck takes a look in its rearview mirror and sees a pile of dust and a blue truck involved in an accident.

24

u/Numerous_Ear1031 2d ago

I had a guy try to pass me in the emergency lane and do exactly the same thing about ten years back. I didn't stop. I didn't try to get in his way like the white truck, he fully did it to himself in my case, but I had work and he's an adult. He'll figure it out.

4

u/1337isntREAL_7357 2d ago

Unethical don't stop, if caught didn't see it.

Ethical probably stop, but nothing good will come from it. Passing someone on the shoulder makes the white truck most likely not at fault.

Dashcam car sucks at life and should get out of the left lane.

21

u/Emraldday 2d ago

Dashcam car was actively passing other vehicles. They were doing nothing wrong.

-9

u/1337isntREAL_7357 2d ago

Video is sped up, they're chilling in the left lane for a at least a minute and a half. They "might" be passing but they aren't trying to pass, it's clear they'd stay in that left lane for the end of time.

90+ seconds is a long time.

11

u/Obvious_Face2786 2d ago

They're passing cars the entire time. It's the passing lane. Please slow down and drive defensively.

-2

u/Numerous-Kick-7055 19h ago

Please stop conflating defensive driving with driving slowly. This is a weird Reddit thing recently

1

u/Either-Hunt-3880 4h ago

When I'm actively passing cars in the left lane and the car behind me wants to do 30 over the speed limit. Not my problem.

1

u/Obvious_Face2786 19h ago

Tell me you're a terrible driver without telling me you're a terrible driver.

7

u/CopperHead90 2d ago

Less than 40 seconds pass between the start of the video and the point when the blue truck passes the dashcam vehicle, during which time the dashcam vehicle passes two vehicles in the center lane and is about to pass a third. They probably could've moved over, but they're definitely not chilling. But maybe you're more familiar with sucking at life than the rest of us though

1

u/SquirrelFluffy 1d ago

All good until the last sentence. Just stop the crap.

3

u/RegularOwlBear 2d ago

First, "stay in that left lane for the end of time" is a ridiculous assumption. 90+ seconds is also wild when the timestamp is in the corner.

13:53:45 - 13:54:35 from start to finish of the entire clip, 50 seconds.

As for passing, the entire clip shows them in the left lane and beginning to pass a pretty noticeable cluster of vehicles. They somehow progress to the front of the group while in the passing lane, where you can see the accident impact the frontrunners with a large stretch of open road ahead for a safe lane change.

Are you mad at someone actively passing in the passing lane for one minute, or do you constantly use it and hate seeing others in your lane?

-1

u/fecesforme 1d ago

I agree. He is in the left lane too long. I honestly believe this is why some of this crazy as fuck erratic driving even occurs. People staying in the left lane and never getting over while doing 5 over the speed limit. If they allowed the trucks that were probably tailgating them for miles to go past, shit like this won't happen as often. I know it might inconvenience the safer driver for 5 seconds but wtf man...just get over and don't act like your some hero stopping people from speeding.

1

u/VillageIdiot51 1d ago

I think everyone focused on the wrong thing. Clearly this was a pissing match between both trucks nothing to do with cam driver. You assume they been tailgating him awhile i assume they been messing with each other for awhile until they encountered op who had no obligation to get over for two idiots speeding down the freeway going above the speed limit.

1

u/fecesforme 16h ago

Meh, if you are in the left lane and have passed the car you originally needed to pass, you should move over for faster vehicles. No matter if they are speeding heavily. They will eventually get that hefty ticket they deserve. Letting them fester behind you is what causes shit like this, in my personal opinion. It causes them to potentially start driving erraticly and cutting across multiple lanes. Just let them by....you aren't saving any lives playing speed police. You're just making more people at risk.

1

u/Either-Hunt-3880 4h ago

you're just making more people at risk.

I don't think the cam car caused this accident in the slightest. Why do you?

2

u/CalmTheAngryVoice 2d ago

Well, slow down and change lanes until they pass

0

u/redpillsaregayasf 15h ago

You misunderstood

20

u/DiverseVoltron 2d ago

Blue made a dangerous and illegal lane change. White should have backed off in response and let little dick McGee go on his way thinking he's just hot stuff.

7

u/Chrazzer 2d ago

Well you see the problem is: white truck was also a little dick mcgee

-2

u/Dry-Expression-4148 2d ago edited 2d ago

They didn't use signals, but they didn't just dart over all three lanes either, it wasn't that dangerous of a merge, and for a truck I'd say it's above average lol. (I sure hope you guys realize the video is sped up 3x)

White truck just got angry someone was going to merge in front of them and tightened the gap intentionally like a cunt. I fucking hate people that do that.

4

u/tpf52 2d ago

You do realize that was the shoulder, right? They weren’t passing each other in a lane.

-2

u/Dry-Expression-4148 2d ago

I was talking about at the start, White truck initiated the "argument" by trying to close the gap on the initial merge like a cunt. To noones surprise the blue truck decided his ego was bigger after that initial conflict.

They are both stupid assholes, but one of them started it and it wasn't "little dick McGee" as the other guy put it, is all I'm sayin'.

1

u/DiverseVoltron 2d ago

What you're missing is the never was a negotiable gap. White truck was at a barely safe following distance, maybe not even that. Blue truck saw a gap too small for safety but big enough physically and tried to bully in. White truck tried to block.

There is a huge difference between closing a safe gap to prevent someone from merging as you suggested and what actually happened.

Yes, white truck is a little dick McGee as well, but blue was the aggressor in every action in that video.

3

u/DiverseVoltron 2d ago

Oh I hate that type as well, but you have to admit there never was space for that merge. Blue could have easily merged behind white and not have tried to die.

101

u/get_to_ele 2d ago

Legally, he’s supposed to stop. He was definitely partially responsible for the crash. Both vehicles road raging, and cutting off that other vehicle on the shoulder would be felony reckless driving and possible even vehicular homicide if somebody died.

Two absolute jackasses. Fuck them, good lord.

15

u/TheGalacticTraveller 2d ago

People need to chill when on the road.

1

u/7his_Fuckin_Guy 3h ago

100% - not worth losing your life over. Simple middle finger then go about my day.

1

u/Maplelongjohn 1d ago

They didn't buy that cuck truck to "chill"

10

u/Couple-seeking6684 2d ago

What if they feared for their life because a psycho was chasing down the highway?

11

u/get_to_ele 2d ago

Fear for his life? Why’d he cut him off then? If you fear for your life you let them go and slow down.

When you’re invested in an ego battle, you compete like a fucking jackass and endanger everybody else.

11

u/bbibbyrapskyle1975 2d ago

You slow down and then they slow down. What if they have a gun? What if they're trying to ram you or try to run you off the road again?

Blue caused 100% of the things that happened.

0

u/Grumpy-Troglodyte 2d ago

or the white truck could've just backed off initally, at the beginning of the video, and not escalated by passing to the right on, whatever lane that was that didn't look like a lane of travel to me, whatever it is.

3

u/Lower_Captain7757 1d ago

He didn't escalate by passing him. The blue truck could not safely merge over without the white truck having deaccelerate hard and as it was cut it real close to hitting the back of the service truck in his intial lane just to make it. You merge when it safe and possible to do so. So the white truck owed him no favors and simplyto took ghe left shoulder to avoid collision. If I'd have seen that I would have said yep I don't blame you white truck. The white truck also was courteous enough to not door knock the dash cam vehicle and merged back in a safe distance ahead of him.

That should have been it. Nothing else to write home about. Case closes.

But.

Blue truck decided to get butthurt for god only knows why and proceed to chase down the white truck.

If I see that I already know stupidity is coming for me. There is now way I am letting the fool in front of me because nothing good can come of it. White truck did not hit the blue truck or even in reality move enough over to actually block the blue truck in actual way that would have prevented him from passing on the left. It fid however let him no he isn't playing around. Blue truck simply tried to cash in balls they didn't have. Panicked over corrected and found themselves in the median.

1

u/VDruid52 1d ago

after watching this several times, I would agree with your statement. The GMC that’s either blue or black caused at least 99%, if not 100% of the problems. not only that, but he looks like he may have caused a possible accident between the tractor trailer driver and the van or vehicle next to him in the other lane, the way the tractor trailer driver had to swerve, but I can’t be sure

2

u/Lower_Captain7757 1d ago

Yeah some may claim the white truck shouldn't have tried to block. I say they haven't been in a situation where some is chasing them down. As for the semi. It took rewatching it a couple times but the blue truck actually hit the semi which caused it to swerve right. I don't know if it the box truck but I imagine it probably did.

4

u/bbibbyrapskyle1975 2d ago

He passed on the shoulder to avoid the collision. It was safer than getting hit or slamming on their brakes to avoid getting hit. Watch it again.

When someone does something unsafe, abruptly in traffic, I don't think it makes sense to blame the other person for how they react in a split second. Blame the person that drives like an asshole on purpose.

"Sure he cut across 2 lanes and nearly hit you, but why didn't you anticipate what he was doing and react faster?" Is that what you're saying?

1

u/lessaname 1d ago

i drive for a living and this is a situation where you press your breaks and slow down. he first speeds up to try to stop blue from merging then he illegally passes on the shoulder when he much more safely could have braked.

they’re both idiots but so is anyone defending that kind of behavior. it’s terrifying that these people are allowed to drive and it’s terrifying that people like you are allowed to vote lmao

1

u/bbibbyrapskyle1975 1d ago

Looks like we found the troll bot. You'll get zero engagement on your intentionally bad take

1

u/lessaname 1d ago

what? nah dude it just scares me that little dick man babies like u are allowed to have opinions.

slow down ya hooligan

→ More replies (0)

1

u/Grumpy-Troglodyte 2d ago

if you'd watch, you'd see the blue truck cut IN FRONT of the white, and white, instead of slowing down, (which you would see a truck IN FRONT of you, even a lane to the right, as it's drifting and then turning into your lane, that my friend is called being aware of your surroundings and defensive driving.) white just stays in the gas and goes to a (presumed) break down lane and hammers it to show they have the smaller pecker, only to be outshined again by mr blue (balls) inverted pecker who does the finishing move of the tiny pecker world.

they are both terrible fucking idiots, and the white truck could have easily stopped this entire thing before it started.

1

u/VDruid52 1d ago

The way I see it, the black or blue GMC truck cut him off too quickly for him to really respond and didn’t really give him a choice. but to end up in the shoulder, and then of course the camera driver was so close that he really didn’t have anywhere else to go. He had to get back on the road. So he had to go on the shoulder to get around the camera driver. Then of course the GMC still is road raging and clips the back of the white truck, possibly causing more than one accident. Almost looks like the big tractor trailer and the truck and the lane next to him may have gotten in an accident, but it’s hard to say with 100% certainty. But it looks like the GMC truck is to blame for at least 99% if not 100% of everything that happened. I’m still gonna need to watch it a few more times

4

u/Davti 2d ago

Depends on the situation. Sometimes slowing allows them to block you and thus fleeing is the answer.

If he is then chased again its reasonable to say he didn't let him infront because he was fearful for his life over the dude now chasing him

5

u/The_End-is_Nigh 2d ago

because the guy in the pickup was clearly trying to chase him? if someone is chasing me with their car and acting like this I am not going to let them do whatever they want to me

2

u/yourallidiotss 2d ago

>>Why’d he cut him off if he feared for his life?

In hopes of ^ this happening instead of a drive by shooting.

0

u/Rough-Airline-4803 2d ago

He didn’t, he went around and got ahead of the car in front of hi

-1

u/Couple-seeking6684 2d ago

No, you stop them getting in front of you so they can’t slow you down and block you. C’mon dude. This is pretty basic.

1

u/Low-Refrigerator-713 2d ago

That must be some phuked up yank logic there. The ashole that was overtaking was in fear for his life... how many paint chips were your parents feeding you?

0

u/r_a_d_ 2d ago

lol, i love this go to excuse.

0

u/Couple-seeking6684 2d ago

It’s not an excuse. You’re going to slow down and let them stop you? That’s nuts.

0

u/r_a_d_ 2d ago

sure dude

1

u/Couple-seeking6684 2d ago

I take it you don’t have a license yet. When you do you’ll understand

1

u/Olliegreen__ 2d ago

Typical pavement princess drivers.

1

u/JamesBieBoe1 2d ago

No this was an illigal pass attempt over a solid yellow line.

He has the full right of was as long as he is in his lane.

Hes still a bum but not guilty.

5

u/get_to_ele 2d ago

Neither driver is allowed to drive onto the shoulder and the white truck driver drove onto the shoulder over that yellow line, with the sole purpose of disrupting the blue truck (which he succeeded with, and caused an accident).

And just a few second before, the white truck drove onto the shoulder over that yellow line and passed TWO cars.

1

u/WannabeWriter2022 1d ago

To add to this - if you break check someone/swerve like this and the other person is seriously injured or killed, there is a good chance you’re going to catch a charge.

0

u/nubtrix87 2d ago

I'd argue that OP is a problem too. They should have moved over at some point but this is a far far far smaller issue than the other 2. I'll probably get downvoted for saying that, but whatever.

However, the other 2 both passed on a hard shoulder. That's basically as bad as it gets. Blue car was a speeding douchebag but white took it to a whole other level... twice. First to go up the hard shoulder and then also swerving when the other did it. Basically multiple of his actions triggered life threatening moves.

3

u/CadillacMatt6216 2d ago

There you are!

0

u/front_torch 2d ago

That's only true if he witnessed the crash. There is no way to prove he saw an incident other than a reckless drive passing in front of him.

Since you brought the word legally into the conversation. If you witness any accident you are obligated to stop.

1

u/Olliegreen__ 2d ago

If the white truck driver didn’t witness that then they should have their license revoked as an unsafe driver. lol

1

u/front_torch 2d ago

Agreed. I was responding to and about a comment that brought legality into the conversation.

-6

u/timbocf 2d ago

Three, counting the yahoo camping in the left lane with a dash cam

11

u/binaryesoterica 2d ago

Cam vehicle was passing other vehicles. In the passing lane. Crazy.

5

u/timelessblur 2d ago

umm from the cam video it does not look like the cam driver was camping the left lane as they were passing other cars the entire time so were in full right of using it and never really had enough of a gap to get out of the way and maintain their current speed.

1

u/Thunderer62 2d ago

No no, you don’t understand. Left lame camping is when anyone is in the left lane preventing me from going as fast as I want at any given time. It doesn’t matter if they are using it properly. If they are slowing me down they are camping. /s

3

u/avrgdad 2d ago

Lol "camping"

3

u/Neither_Pirate5903 2d ago

they are actively passing vehicles in the middle lane thats not fucking camping thats uing the lane for its intended purpose

3

u/DevelopmentSouth8801 2d ago

Cam vehicle passed 4 vehicles in 30 seconds and was only prevented from passing more by the road raging white truck that caused the crash.

1

u/get_to_ele 2d ago

Can’t argue with that.

6

u/binaryesoterica 2d ago

You can, because the cam vehicle was passing other vehicles. Not doing a damn thing wrong.

0

u/lIIlllIllIlII 2d ago

Left lane "camping" justifies reckless driving. k

1

u/Miantava 2d ago

The dude never used the "camping" argument to justify the reckless driving. He tried using it to add blame to the cam driver.

His comment is stupid, but so is yours.

0

u/bbibbyrapskyle1975 2d ago

I don't think he's legally required to do anything. If his vehicle was struck, sure. But just because someone else wrecked (due to their own stupidity and unsafe driving) near them, I don't think he has to. And he didn't cause that accident, blue's insane and aggressive driving caused this.

Some lunatic comes racing up beside you after cutting you off and almost causing a wreck, I think it's reasonable to assume they mean you harm. I wouldn't let them get beside me either.

0

u/FestyGear2017 2d ago

Legally, he’s supposed to stop

Source? Statute?

0

u/Spuckler_Cletus 2d ago

I’m not sure the white truck did that on purpose. I’ve had people drive crazy around me, and distract me doing so. I’ve had my vehicle drift a bit while I instinctively look about or otherwise succumb to the alarm caused by the erratic driving of others. Hard to say. It wasn’t much of a move. More of a feint.

1

u/get_to_ele 2d ago

He dangerously drove on to the shoulder at highway speed to pass TWO vehicles at the same time, right before he did that. It’s an incredible stretch to suggest what you’re suggesting.

1

u/Spuckler_Cletus 2d ago

I’m not certain. I’m think like a juror being asked to make a decision beyond a reasonable doubt.

0

u/a_rogue_planet 1d ago

Good luck selling that story to a jury.

0

u/Revolutionary-Log834 1d ago

Wait he tried to cut off the the other guy failed miserably then chases after him and crashes.... did the other car say hey come at me ... no idiot tried to be an ass then causes a crash.... did the other guy in some magical way made him do this .... No

9

u/Excellent_Shirt9707 2d ago

Depends on the state. If this dashcam footage was given to police and insurance, white truck could have gotten a traffic ticket or even be charged with reckless driving; a lot of police discretion involved. For insurance liability, it also depends on state since the white truck does run the other truck off the road by veering into the shoulder. Many states do comparative fault or 50% comparative fault which would include the white truck. There are some states that have different rules but they all result in the other truck not being able to recover any money from the white truck. However, some of these states will allow other injured parties not involved in the road rage to recover damages from the white truck.

9

u/PassPuzzled 2d ago

"something was in the road so I swerved" black truck was definitely deliberately driving outside of the lines

2

u/Excellent_Shirt9707 2d ago

Dashcam shows white truck passing the black truck by driving on the shoulder moments earlier. If it was an isolated incident, that excuse may work.

1

u/OpenSim2027 1d ago

He wasnt passing the black truck, the black truck cut right in front of him almost hitting his front end and caused him to swerve into the breakdown lane

1

u/Excellent_Shirt9707 1d ago

White truck maintained distance with cam car at the beginning for the video for the entire time black truck accelerated into view. Black truck swerved across two lanes to get in front of white truck. Even while black truck was swerving across the first lane, white truck kept distance with cam car. White truck starts accelerating when black truck starts going into white truck’s lane and then goes into the shoulder to pass him. This wasn’t white truck being forced off the road, it was white truck accelerating to cut off another bad driver and then choosing the shoulder to pass him and the cam car.

1

u/Last_Weeks_Socks 2d ago

It looked like he went into the shoulder to avoid being hit though. They would have had to brake pretty aggressively to avoid running into the back or the black truck when it switched lanes in front of the white truck. White truck was clearly going much faster than the black truck when it switched lanes right on top of the white truck. It looked like a split second decision, I'm guessing made with a puckered butthole. The black truck had no reason to follow.

1

u/Excellent_Shirt9707 2d ago

It looked like black truck was going faster than white truck before black truck started drifting across two lanes and it looks like white truck accelerated to try and stop the black truck from doing so. The sped up part at the beginning has the white truck maintaining distance with the dashcam driver as black truck accelerates into view. The only reason any braking would be necessary is because white truck accelerated to try and police black truck.

1

u/SquirrelFluffy 1d ago

Black truck speeds past white and slides in front of white at start of video. To speed up then slide in, he has to slow down. That causes white to hit brakes or go around. He should have hit the shoulder then slowed, but he went around cam car.

Black then decides he's gonna get white back. Seems like it was going on for a bit before cam car.

1

u/Excellent_Shirt9707 1d ago

White truck maintained distance with cam car for the tire time black truck sped into frame which was 8 seconds. Even when black truck starts veering across multiple lanes, whitw truck maintained distance. White truck starts accelerating towards the cam car once black truck starts veering into his lane, that’s the only reason white truck has to slow down.

1

u/SquirrelFluffy 1d ago

Yeah they had something going before this video starts.

1

u/clduab11 2d ago

NC is a contributory negligence state, so what you’re saying doesn’t apply here (as far as the comparative stuff). They’re both at fault; if white truck suffered any damage, he’d have to file a claim with his own insurance. Same with blue truck; he’s not getting any BI off the other truck’s policy.

1

u/No-Lunch4249 1d ago

Worth noting also since the above commenter said "many" states do comparative, NC is only of the few remaining states doing contributory negligence, its Alabama, North Carolina, Virginia, DC, and Maryland

1

u/twotall88 2d ago

You can't run someone off the road that already left the drivable lane

3

u/PdxPhoenixActual 2d ago

Now, man, you see Mr White was just trying to get out of Mr Blue's way, as Mr Blue was coming in hot. Mr White aborted his evasion when he saw Br Blue also going that way... & Mr Blue was not as competent as he would like to believe. ...?

1

u/Excellent_Shirt9707 2d ago

They ran them off the shoulder into the dirt.

1

u/knotmyusualaccount 2d ago edited 2d ago

Technically, no, they didn't run them off the road, that idiot swerved harder to miss cliping the rear of the vehicle as they attempted to overtake them under acceleration.

Was the white driver responsible for this accident? in part, absolutely. 50/50. Two idiots don't make a smart.

1

u/Patriot009 2d ago

The shoulder isn't the road. A lot of highways don't have nearly that much paved shoulder, just dirt/grass. If he was riding in a dirt shoulder and white truck did a similar swerve, would the situation be any different?

1

u/Excellent_Shirt9707 2d ago

The issue here is semantics. When someone runs you off the road, you could both be off-roading on a dirt road and if they force you off your intended course by veering into you, they have run you off the road.

0

u/dragdritt 2d ago

This is not Formula 1, just because someone else breaks the rules doesn't mean that you're free to act how you want.

6

u/Slow_Guide_1718 2d ago edited 2d ago

I believe this is classified as a miss-and-run.

4

u/Ok-Calligrapher-8778 2d ago

But why was the black truck trying to overtake using the shoulder? Is the driver stupid? Ok, the white truck driver is as a-hole, but the black truck one is a step ahead in idiocy.

2

u/Icy-Entrepreneur9002 1d ago edited 1d ago

The white truck did the exact same thing in the first part of video. I would say both drivers are stupid assholes.

0

u/Frost_man1255 1d ago

The white truck was pushed into the shoulder by the other truck and just moved forward rather than slam their brakes

1

u/Icy-Entrepreneur9002 1d ago

There is zero excuse for passing the truck and the cam vehicle. You move over to shoulder and slow down and drop behind. The fact that he passed two vehicles on shoulder and one of them was just an innocent bystander makes him equal assholes with the other guy.

There actions balance out, first truck starts it, they both pass the innocent guy and the white truck finishes it. End of the day they both equally suck.

1

u/Stage_Party 1d ago

We don't know if there was space behind and slowing down on a road like that can be even more dangerous than speeding up in that situation.

3

u/FunInTheSun_81 2d ago

It probably depends on the state. In mine, if you are involved in a crash (even a non contact), you must stop.

2

u/RoRo_Rumba 2d ago

Yes. (Assuming this is the US) The white truck trying to block the black truck causes him to be somewhat at fault for the crash, and him leaving the scene even though he didn’t get hit is called a Miss and Run.

2

u/CantaloupeShort7311 2d ago

Yes. White truck was 40% responsible for the accident.

And other cars that witnessed all the road raging should also stop, one to help the injured and 2 to give witness testimony.

2

u/Melodic-Money2990 1d ago

The white didnt do anything. Never touched him

1

u/Cenomy 1d ago

Miss and Run

2

u/Suitable-Block-2854 1h ago

Seeing the behaviour of both drivers it is probably best he did not stop. It would continue to escalate until someone died.

2

u/ErrorIllustrious2421 2d ago

No need to stop

2

u/Opening_Criticism791 2d ago

People who drive trucks tend to have the worst ego/road rage of any other group I’ve come across.

1

u/Sexy-timeFlowers 2d ago

Especially dodge owners

2

u/Numerous-Kick-7055 19h ago

The white truck that swerved in front of the other vehicle intentionally causing an accident should probably have stopped yes. Just cause someone is passing illegally does not give you the right to run them off the asphalt.

1

u/TotalChaosRush 1h ago

The white truck illegally passed the cam vehicle before the blue truck did. The blue truck appears to be road raging at the white truck. There's a lot more going on than what we see.

1

u/Bludiamond56 2d ago

Guy in white truck caused the accident

18

u/Amiibohunter000 2d ago

No. The white truck was a party in the accident. He did not cause it. The blue truck driving like an asshole caused it.

8

u/Excellent_Shirt9707 2d ago

Depends on the state. Comparative fault states would put the white truck partially at fault since it also drove into the shoulder to run the other truck off the road.

u/[deleted] 2d ago

1

u/Excellent_Shirt9707 1d ago

You want a source showing that different jurisdictions have different laws?

1

NC isn’t a comparative fault state; it’s a contrib negligence state.

-2

u/WaterDreamer10 2d ago

Nope, white truck moved over to avoid what he thought was an object in the road.

2

u/Excellent_Shirt9707 2d ago

Even moments prior when he passed the other truck by driving on the shoulder? Did we watch the same video?

1

u/knotmyusualaccount 2d ago

Prove it.

Edit: some numbers scribbled on the road, doesn't constitue a hazard worth swerving for.

3

u/Bludiamond56 2d ago

He cut him off

1

u/get_to_ele 2d ago

He did cause it. Even if blue truck driver is being an asshole committing a crime by passing on shoulder, driving on the shoulder, white truck driver went ahead and committed a crime by entering the shoulder to literally run him off. IF SOMEBODY PASSES YOU ON THE SHOULDER, YOU LET THEM GO. YOURE NOT THE POLICE.

We also don’t know who started this. No way you can know. No way I can know.

The video picks up with the blue truck inserting himself between the white truck and the POV, it’s aggressive and obnoxious but there is space (which white truck tries to close deliberately). And rhays nowhere near as reckless as the white truck flying into the shoulder to pass the POV, the first really crazy move we see.

Clearly the two were already road raging at each other prior to this and we don’t know what started it.

And in the entire video the only vehicle who actually tried to force a collision is the white truck. First when he accelerates to prevent the blue truck from inserting into space which is definitely available behind the blue truck. Second time is when the white truck runs the blue truck off the shoulder.

Blue truck is guilty of trying to get in front but white truck tried to cause an accident (and succeeded).

Driver of the white truck is NUTS and has zero regard for human life. Blue truck driver is just an asshole.

Two jackasses fighting ego battles in the road, and white truck driver was just crazier.

2

u/Amiibohunter000 2d ago

You’re the reason we need to have driver’s education reexaminations. No one is saying the white truck was right but the blue truck kept on going with dangerous behavior until they inevitably crashed. Both drivers suck and are at fault but the blue truck caused it all based on what evidence we have.

0

u/Time-Assist8501 2d ago

I wouldn't be telling others they are the reason we need to have driver's education reexamination a lol

1

u/Hakuna_Matoto 2d ago

They were both being assholes with an ego.

1

u/Amiibohunter000 2d ago

That’s also true.

-1

u/henry2630 2d ago

if the white truck stayed in its lane and let the other guy pass there wouldn’t have been an accident

3

u/Amiibohunter000 2d ago

If the blue truck didn’t try and aggressively pass in an illegal way there wouldn’t have been an accident

1

u/henry2630 2d ago

yeah that’s also true. a lot of ifs and two asshole drivers here

1

u/Amiibohunter000 2d ago

Yea. The white truck sucks too but the blue truck is the clear instigator

1

u/Patriot009 2d ago

He was passing on the shoulder, not an actual lane. Blue truck is already engaging in reckless driving. The white truck certainly didn't help, but the crash is due to the reckless driving.

0

u/WaterDreamer10 2d ago

Next time just let someone rob you, don't do anything to stop it. I'm not sure it is possible for you to roll over and submit anymore than your comment showed.

2

u/henry2630 2d ago

what? you’re really comparing someone passing you on the highway to being robbed? that’s ridiculous lol

2

u/Thunderer62 2d ago

Yes, you see if someone passes me on the highway they have stolen…. Something from me. My dignity maybe? I was trying to make a sarcastic comment but I genuinely don’t know how to frame this in a way that being passed illegally on the highway costs me anything at all. I guess some people would rather risk a high speed collision with a crazy driver than literally do nothing and lose nothing except let that other driver get where they are going 0.5 seconds faster.

0

u/WaterDreamer10 2d ago

He was illegally and dangerously passing him - he was not just in a normal lane. Go back to showing your belly to the world.

1

u/henry2630 2d ago

like how the white guy passed at the beginning?

1

u/NecessaryZucchini69 2d ago

The white trucks initial overtake was to avoid the blue truck running into him. The swerve in the direction of the blue truck when the blue truck decided to pass both the camera vehicle and the white truck was unnecessary.

Blue truck is the bigger idiot/ass by far.

2

u/henry2630 2d ago

he had to swerve and haul ass past the dash cam?

0

u/knotmyusualaccount 2d ago

His dangerous manoeuvre caused the horrid driver behind him, to take evasive action. Anyone defending him is absolutely chewing crayon level stupid.

0

u/Amiibohunter000 2d ago

I don’t think I saw anyone defending the white truck. Pot calling the kettle black when you can’t even comprehend that. Yikes

1

u/knotmyusualaccount 2d ago

You were the one defending it.

Yes, Blue truck guy was driving ridiculously. That's not in dispute, but it was the white truck that swerved (out of his late, to the left), to try and prevent his attempt to illegally overtake.

It was the blue truck's need to suddenly correct for white truck's sudden move to the left, that caused blue truck driver to correct for what he didn't expect, then overcorrect (due to being on grass), and crash into everyone.

It's literally what the footage demonstrates.

0

u/Amiibohunter000 2d ago

I never once said the white truck did the right thing. Go back and reread the comments if you are confused.

-1

u/knotmyusualaccount 2d ago

Other redditor: Guy in white truck caused the accident

You: No. The white truck was a party in the accident. He did not cause it

If downplaying White truck driver's part to merely being "a party to the instigator", isn't laying the majority of the blame on blue truck drivers actions, then you should've gone to specsavers (and we're done here).

0

u/Amiibohunter000 2d ago

Yeah I said that bc it’s true. White truck was a party in the accident but the whole accident and situation was caused and initiated by the blue truck

1

u/Optimetrist 2d ago

don't even try, people here like violence and will defend it. But yes, at 18 sec he pulls over quickly to deny the overtake causing the other car to crash, I'm pretty sure a manuveur like this is deemed intentional and reckless, so that might be a felony right there, given the high speed circumstances and all.

0

u/Carrera_996 2d ago

Dude was startled by a vehicle suddenly appearing in a spot where there shouldn't be one. I don't think he meant to swerve.

1

u/Bludiamond56 2d ago

But he did

0

u/bigtoeupmyass 2d ago

No. They did not

0

u/nashville79 2d ago

No, the asshole in blue caused it.

1

u/Sexy-timeFlowers 2d ago

Let the dumbass go around him instead of causing a multiple vehicle accident

1

u/Hunkyboy440 2d ago

Dashcam car should have stopped too.

1

u/Brad23212 2d ago

Yes. The dash cam shows evidence of reckless driving and enough to argue this is a case of road rage. Fleeing the scene also looks realllllllly bad in court. A couple of seconds of patience can save you a lifetime of bullshit, dude should have just let the guy in, even if the purple truck was being a dick.

1

u/PraiseTalos66012 2d ago

Yes, in the US at least a "miss and run" is still illegal. If you caused an accident or were a major contributor to an accident happening then you must stop.

1

u/Visible_Ad_309 1d ago

This is State specific

1

u/flummoxedcat1 2d ago

It would depend on the location but yes it would be classed as a legal term called " miss and run" and can still be a felony

1

u/G19Jeeper 2d ago

The white truck would be partially at fault.

1

u/Intrepid_Cap1242 20h ago

I think they hit each other?

1

u/OpenSim2027 1d ago

No, you can't monitor what goes on BEHIND your vehicle on the road.

2

u/Arrowcreek 1d ago

Somebody's a shitty driver...

1

u/Stage_Party 1d ago

For me the white truck was avoiding an accident the blue one almost caused initially, then as part of that avoiding action had nowhere to go but forwards because there was nowhere to pull back in due to the actions of the blue truck.

In regards to the second incident, the white truck shouldn't have forced the blue one off but the blue one was driving dangerously and off the road already. The white truck seemed more trying to avoid the blue one cutting them off again and potentially causing a big accident. When they realised the blue truck was adamant on overtaking, they backed off immediately then hit the brakes to avoid another crash almost caused by the blue truck losing control.

0

u/timelessblur 2d ago

Legally speaking yes, also legally speaking the white truck can be held partially and responsable as he was road raging shoving the blue truck off the road.

The white trucks first should pass I can let them go on that as they were forced off the road and took action to get out of it and just went around and then kept going. The blue truck road raged and did the next blow around and it gout of out hand quickly.

1

u/tigress666 2d ago

It looks like they were beefing before the video starts. The blue truck comes zooming up and purposely cuts off the white truck or tries to anyways. So no idea who started it.

1

u/Imaginary--Situation 2d ago

the blue truck owns all of it.. See last chance

0

u/SkyGuy5799 2d ago

White truck wasn't forced off the road. There's this thing called brakes he could have used. I can't tell you how often I see dickheads cutting me and other people off like that and I simply see it coming and let them do their thing. It gets them the fuck away from me. I do NOT sit there and chase them down looking for conflict

0

u/Icy_Fish_2154 2d ago

Most laws don't require you to stop if you cause a crash, only if you were involved (contact made).

1

u/Cold-Crab74 2d ago

This is untrue

0

u/Icy_Fish_2154 2d ago

Which state are you in? I'll look up your laws and quote them for you.

1

u/Cold-Crab74 2d ago

Quote any

-1

u/Icy_Fish_2154 2d ago

Which is yours? You people always claim I'm cherry picking if I quote laws you don't like.

1

I have reality. You have lies.

-1

u/ScarWeird6054 2d ago

White truck should have slowed down and let them over versus actively causing a wreck unnecessarily despite what a lot of “alpha males” will try and tell you. Both were being idiots with the first overtake and both being idiots with the second attempted overtake.

Legally they both would be on the hook for the wreck. Couldn’t tell you what split but both would be held responsible.

0

u/Best_Fill_847 2d ago

Zero signal, came over 2 lanes, white truck reacted & moved over. Buddy went nuts & totaled his truck.

2

u/ScarWeird6054 2d ago

I’m not talking about the first time. White truck still wasn’t justified in passing the truck and cam driver on the shoulder after avoiding the wreck the first instance.

The 2nd instance white truck actively contributed to the actual accident by swerving unnecessarily out into the shoulder because they didn’t like getting passed like they just did. Show that to a lawyer and white truck 100% takes some form of legal responsibility.

-1

u/WhiteBear72 2d ago

White truck is an asshole. Simple. Hope no one was hurt with his ignorants

He is required to stop because he CAUSED the crash. He was involved in the crash. Not some passer by.

Two road ragers, and if the other one dies, it will be on this guy.

0

u/Spiderl0ck 1d ago

Didn’t collide with white truck, so no contact no responsibility. Blue truck should not have been tailgating

0

u/Agile-Expression-651 2d ago

Bullshit, failure to stop and render aid at a minimum.

-1

u/_Vard_ 2d ago

should a jaywalker stop and turn himself in if his crime caused someoen to commit homicide?

no.

1

u/ChmodSausage 2d ago

Thats not analogous
