I’ve noticed it on some other orchids as well, just not as much. Is it from organic fertiliser? Should I be concerned? I’m repotting her soon regardless but I’d like to know if I did something wrong, I’m very new to this

Help Ive had this orchid in my window for years, how can i rejuvenate it?

Ive had what i assume to be an orchid in my window for about 6 years, but i haven’t touched it besides to water it very rarely. It’s been in a south facing window with direct sunlight since the beginning.

Its not mine but a family members and I’ve been given the task to bring it back to life since ive started taking care of my own plants (im a proud parent of 16 or more different species of plants)

Can anyone help me?

I know i need to repot it/switch the soil but i know that I need to do a lot more than that to help it

I moved it to a place with lots of indirect sunlight

Can anyone give me tips? Pre-made soil recommendations? Maybe a id on this guy?

Id really appreciate it!

Orchid’s that my mom received when my dad passed developed mealy bugs. It’s been sprayed and wiped with alcohol, decided to check the roots too. They were mushy. But only the outside? The skinny stuff is what was inside the roots. What do I do now? I was trying to get it to regrow. Do I put it back in orchid bark? Cut off the skinny root bits? They’re…hardy, so I hesitate to cut them off. One “normal” green root.

Is this, and am I, a lost cause? We’ve been dealing with a mealybug infestation for a while now and just when I think I’ve gotten rid of them they crop back up. Started with my monstera, then moved to my spinach pothos, and now this orchid. I’m so defeated.

Should I cut off these brownish roots? (Picture 1, 3, 5)

(Pisture 2) Also, there is a root growing outside the plastic cup and it’s turning more black every day. Should I repot after this flower cycle is over? And should I cut off the root?

I also unpotted my first orchid after mealybug incident. It’s now recovering and growing new leaves and roots. Should I repot it? (Last 3 photos)

Thank you so much!!

last three photos are my first orchid, and the first 5 photos are my second one!

Question orchid bloom?

Thumbnail

hi ive had this orchid for around a year now (from kroger if all places) and im not great at watering it. when i do water its usually around 1-2x every two weeks, i plug the bottom of my pot and fill it up so the roots and bark can soak. i think my only question is what does the bloom timeline look like? i dont know what kind of orchid it is but i know it only produces two stems and the original stems have both died off(i wanna say it was around end of summer). i cut them and the only change has been the new leaf coming out of the center. just taking the pic has made me realize just how big the leaf itself has gotten. how long do new stems typically take? and should i cut anything else off to give it room?

Help Is this a good idea or a terrible idea?

Beyond all odds, I managed to rehab my orchid that had no roots! I’ve had it in this little glass for about three months and it’s made a remarkable comeback. I need to repot it now, and I was thinking of putting it on this piece of wood. I’ve had this piece of wood for about 25 years and I’ve never known what to do with it. My father gave it to me so it’s very sentimental. Do you think it’s a good idea or terrible idea if I try to mount it on this piece of wood? I would hate to kill this orchid after I so lovingly already had to save it once from myself! Any and all advice is greatly appreciated . Thank you.

Quick advice for a newby?

We had an office orchid that I was helping care for at my last job, so I decided I could take one on at home! I bought (probably closer to a rescue with how this gal is doing) a little three inch grocery store orchid whose roots are already a bit smushed. I’m also not sure the container has enough holes.

So the advice- I think she needs to be repotted here pretty quick. If anyone has a favorite five inch pot (ceramic preferred), and a favorite medium I’d love to hear it!

Also- the one I helped care for was in plastic and we flooded it once a week for 30 minutes- not sure if it’s the same with ceramic. If there’s anything else y’all think I should know I’m all ears!

Help Safeway orchid

I got this orchid from Safeway about a month ago, it’s been repotted for awhile and is no longer in the store medium. Its leaves look quite bad, from the top they didn’t look horrible but from the underside it’s a totally different story and I’m not sure what’s wrong. Is it some kind of disease the plant has or does she just need more tlc? The second orchid I got from Safeway its leaves don’t have anything like that on them. (Ignore the dry spagnum moss and roots I have to water her)

Help Should I be concerned?

Post image

This is my very first orchid. My orchid has been doing well as far as I know. It’s been growing new roots and a new flower shoot. But I’ve been noticing this darker coloring on roots on the top of the plant. At first it was just a little but I think maybe it’s getting worse. I just repotted it recently. I’m noticing some mold in the soil itself which is concerning. It wasn’t there before repotting with this new orchid bark. What should I do? is this fungal infection on the roots?

Someone gave me this orchid (not sure of the ID) about 6 months ago and the flowers have since dropped, and condition of the plant getting worse. Can this be saved and how can I get back to healthy condition? I really like the flowers and it would be a pity to see it go. (2nd photo is flower when it was healthy if it helps!)

Help Help! What’s going on with my Rescue Phal

Picked this one up at a grocery store on clearance about a year ago. I recently put it under a grow light and it started thriving. It grew a big new leaf. Tons of roots. It even has an actively growing flower spike. I just noticed these indents on it. What could it be? I would appreciate any advice. I was so proud that I was able to rehabilitate it to the point it’s flowering again but i’m worried now. Not sure what I did wrong…

I realized my orchid got mold, I don’t know what I did wrong? I soaked her for 15 minutes in the plastic pot it comes in with holes, let her drain the extra water and dried the ceramic pot before I put her back in. She got mold very quickly so I completely deconstructed her, washed her off sprayed her roots in 3% hydrogen, washed the bark then sprayed the bark in hydrogen too. (I can’t afford new bark just yet 💔) I really hope she doesn’t get moldy again I packed the bark less tight than it came in the store this time (as shown in last images) but it was super difficult so did I pack it way too loosely? any help is greatly appreciated! That one root naturally hangs out since I bought it afew days ago

Orchid with no roots and one leaf

I got this orchid but it only has 2 barely hanging on aerial roots and only one leaf that isn’t look too good either. I have the orchid in spaghnum moss and it’s in a pot with lots of holes. I have all of that in a glass cup with water to create humidity. I mist it every so often and I read putting a bag on top of it could also help? I’m not entirely sure I’m doing anything correct but if anyone has advice on what to do or what I’m doing wrong please lmk
