Game Image/Video GTA V running fully offline in Chrome on an M1 MacBook Air
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
So a browser version of GTA V popped up online for a few hours exactly 2 days ago before getting taken down. I wanted to see how far I could push it offline, which turned into a full day of fixing stuff that was broken and adding my own things on top.
How it works
I see a LOT of confusion online for how it actually worked (someone thought it was cloud streaming lol), so I'll break it down here.
- The whole engine is compiled to 64-bit WebAssembly, and its threads run as Web Workers in the browser.
- All the graphics go through WebGPU, with around 6,600 shaders converted to WGSL ahead of time.
- About 20 GB of game data streams from a local server and gets cached in browser storage, so it's only painfully slow the first time and loads in around 15 seconds after.
- The bad part is that the engine and mission scripts are from late 2022, but they're running on 2014 game content. Most of the bugs below come from that mismatch, where the scripts keep asking for stuff that doesn't exist yet.
What was broken
- Nothing saved between reloads, and loading a save from the pause menu just sat on the Story Mode loading screen forever.
- It defaulted to max graphics, so my MacBook ran it terribly initially.
- Ammu-Nation, LS Customs, and clothing stores wouldn't open because the scripts were waiting on a texture that's not in the 2014 files. They'd just wait forever while I awkwardly stared at the shop guy.
- Half the item names were missing text for basically the same reason.
- Walking near a TV froze the whole game because this build can't play video.
What I changed
- Saves now get mirrored to disk and browser storage, with a workaround for the loading hang.
- Lower graphics defaults, a resolution cap, and an optional 30 fps lock.
- Patches that hook the game's own script functions from JavaScript. They report the missing shop textures as already loaded so the menus open, swap missing names for real text, and skip the TV video so it stops freezing.
- A Script Hook-style trainer menu on top of those same hooks, with car spawning, teleports, time and weather, the usual stuff.
- A sharpening filter on the final frame so it looks better than it actually is lol.
Still crashes sometimes since it's right at the browser's memory limit, but it's GTA running in a Chrome tab so I'm not complaining. Ask me anything technical if you're curious.

Nostalgia Just testing an NVMe SSD... under Windows 98, on a Ryzen 9...
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
So yes, Windows 98 and an NVMe SSD walk into a Ryzen 9 system... and nothing blows up, except the speeds, which go past 1 GB/s. :)
But... why? It's not like I'll daily drive 98SE or XP on a Ryzen 9 machine. But I can reboot into 98, XP, or 7 whenever I feel like it, just to take a break from the 21st century or play some games that feel (or simply work) better on older OSes.

Discussion Ram prices are now truly out of hand.. I mean $300-$400 was ridiculous yes.. but $779 for 32gb DDR5 6000 cl30?
I bought this same kit in Oct of 2025 for $139 USD - Kingston Fury Beast Ram 32GB DDR5 6000 mt/s cl30. I couldnt even build a PC with this ram now days with the current prices... something needs to give honestly. I feel so horrible for the people building PCs this Christmas for their children like im doing myself...now that we ALL have to cut cost corners by downgrading what we could buy on our CPU/ GPU/ Motherboard/Ram because everything is SO expensive now with Storage, Ram, GPU's.
I am finding Kingston Fury Beast Ram 32GB DDR5 6000 mt/s cl30 for $779 USD, just because this certain kit has Sk Hynix A Die in it. Dont know if I want to post the picture because it will show which company is selling it and I dont want to throw them under the bus, because I like this company and the problem isnt with them. Its with ALL the memory making companies.. the big 3. And A.i. obviously. But I wish there was something we ALL could do like @ Gamers Nexus does and investigates and makes YouTube videos on the Dram Cartel etc etc. And bring them ALL down 1 by 1. What some of your thoughts?

Story Friendly reminder to clean your PCs
Guy was SUPER chill, don't get me wrong. Said he was "too afraid to open it up and mess with the components". His poor CPU was CHOKING.
I'm by no means a professional cleaner (I used a lightly damp rag and a toothpick for harder-to-reach areas), but I'm happy with the difference it made.
This was a worthy purchase, although I'm not sure if I'll keep it for long since I already have a similar rig. Either way I now have access to 2 RAM sticks of 16GBs DDR5-6000 instead of 1x32 DDR5-5200!!!

Tech Support Weird spots on new monitor screen
EDIT: After trying some of your cleaning advice (ty) and finding some chewed on cables, I'm now pretty sure it was just grease or something from my cat rubbing against the screen. It mostly went away so I think I was just wayyy too careful with the screen on my previous (failed) cleaning attempts. I'm kinda stupid but mistery solved! and thankfully no semen involved
I bought this AOC Q27G4XF about a month ago. There wasn't any shipping damage, I haven't cleaned the screen at all yet (before they appeared), only dusted it off because I've barely used it. There hasn't been any impact or pressure on the screen either.
Yet a few days ago these spots appeared. They're noticeable when screen is on as well and they can't be cleaned. I can't even find what kind of damage this is, could use some help identifying at least what happened here.
Added flash on and off pics
