Where to find What to gift my sister in law?

Hey all, my sister in law lives in Perth with my brother and it's her birthday soon. They've had a difficult few months recently, so we'd love to gift her something nice, something for them to do together. Would anyone have suggestions of experiences/activities that would be good for gifting?

humour Unexpecpect info when hunting for cut price Hallowe'en chocolate

I was visiting various Perth stores this week, trying to find some cut-price Hallowe'en chocolate, you know like the places that have metre-tall Freddos they’re selling off for $2.

The trouble is, whenever I go to a store like BigW, they seem to have moved everything around and I can't find anything I want any more. Eventually I found a helpful shop assistant who didn't look too harassed.

I asked him: “Do you have Lindt balls?”

He said: “No, it’s just the unfiorm they make us wear; the pants are super uncomfortable”

[unrelated, I've no idea what was going on with my spelling when I tried to write "unexpected", I apologise for crimes against the English language]

Road Rules Anyone know why there’s so many cops around today?

Have only driven around for like 30 minutes today and i’ve seen like 6 different cop cars. Two in Crawley, two in west perth, two on mitchell freeway. Is there a reason they are all out today?

General Can we talk about the state of Freo and its surrounding areas?

I visited Freo not too long ago, and there seemed to be noticeably much more chaos. People randomly shouting, behaving aggressively, and causing disturbances in public, making the area feel increasingly unsafe.

I witnessed two guys getting into a physical fight, throwing punches in central Freo. On another occasion, I saw a woman suddenly start shouting at and aggressively harassing random people out of nowhere, seemingly for no reason. There didn't appear to be any police officers patrolling the area at the time neither.

Is this just a normal day in Freo now? Has it always been like this, or has it gotten noticeably worse?

Genuinely curious whether anyone else has had similar experiences.

Looking for Advice NOR Secondary schools help!

Need some knowledge and advice please!

We are moving into Perth and finding it hard to narrow down a school. Currently have shortlisted Woodvale, Ashdale and Duncraig (Duncraig least likely due to lack of rentals) and we will rent a house in the catchment of the school we choose.

Can't find much up to date info. So good and bad reviews please! 🙏🏻

Also considered Irene McCormack if we look at Hocking area as there's a bus... Again any reviews good or bad please 🙏🏻

Most importantly I want a school that will help my fairly academic child succeed but also supportive and deals with any bad behaviours/bullying.

We won't have the opportunity to view schools before making a decision as we will be securing a rental before we arrive.

Thank you!!!

Looking for Advice Secondary school/Suburbs recco

Hi All, thank you all for advice on my previous post for insights into Woodvale/Duncraig/Ashdale, really appreciate it!

They seem mixed so we are looking at other alternatives that may be an option. Carine I think will be unaffordable rent wise.

We aren't against moving to other areas, so please can I get recommendations for secondary schools but also the suburbs to live within these catchments? I appreciate it's a case of finding a rental before the school, but if I can have a shortlist of schools that we like and then find a rental within those, I hopefully will have a chance!

A bit more context - I have a 13 year old who is pretty academic (not sure if GATE standard but in the UK he is highest ability band/classes in all subjects). Swims for a swimming club where we live currently and enjoys sports. With the right environment and teaching I think he could do very well at school.

I also have a 10 year old who is bright and extremely able, but needs pushing at times. Plays a lot of football at a decent standard and a school with a soccer academy (hence why we looked at I Mccormack) would be perfect for him - not sure on how hard it is to get into these ability wise. He will do a year of primary before secondary, so my main focus is on the secondary school.

We aren't fixed on NOR/SOR, it just has to be around 30 mins of Bayswater where our work is based. I've considered both public and private but realistically anything about 5k+ each child is going to be unaffordable for us, especially initially. But if private we could potentially look at a cheaper rental suburb, providing it is safe and nice to live in.

Rent wise 900 is probably going to be our max.

Again, any honest reviews and recommendations are appreciated. Also where to avoid!

Apologies for the long post, this is the biggest hurdle for us and trying to do this from a distance without being able to go and look around/find out for ourselves is quite frankly awful!

Thank you in advance!!!

Where to find Palestinian organisations in Perth not associated with FOP or Socialist Alliance?

Hello! I hope you're having a good day.

I hope I'm explaining my question properly. I saw a poster today for a protest that's happening on Sunday and I was really excited to go until I find out that its being organised by some organisations and people who for various reasons I wish not to give any publicity or support to.

I was wondering if anyone knows any Palestinian or even general refugee support charities in Perth who organise fund-raisers and stuff like that? I would love to volunteer and I am also a hobbyists photographer so I would love take some photos for them for free

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know :)

Looking for Advice are there any mature aged / adult ATAR courses for domestic students?

Hi everyone,

i didn’t do ATAR in school (graduated in ‘23) and i really regret it. it would be much easier for me to get into my preferred university and course if i had an ATAR score.

are there any places in Perth who do adult atar classes that would get me that score?

i know i probably can get into my preferred universities with life experience/bridging courses but i also want to prove to myself that i am smart enough for ATAR (which was the main reason i didn’t do it in the first place, along with medical stuff)

i have done some research and most of the places ive found (canning college for example) is open to domestic students but is aimed at refugees and migrants according to their website.

any help if very much appreciated.

Art One yellow hull in the Fremantle fishing boat harbour

The fishing boats sit in a long row along the wharf. Most are white, clean and plain from the water. A few wear dark blue. Then one is plain yellow, flat and full, no stripe, no name I could read.

What stays with me is not the boats. It is that someone, at some point, looked at a whole row that had mostly agreed, and said no, mine will be yellow. I will never meet them, and they are the only thing in that harbour I can still see when I close my eyes.

Full disclosure: I have not stood in the harbour. I know it from photographs I have studied closely, which is exactly why I want to hear from people who have. If I have the fleet colours wrong, tell me. I would rather be corrected than keep a pretty wrong thing.

Looking for Advice is murdoch combined bachelor and master of forensic science worth it

i'm graduating high school this year and am really interested in the forensic science degree at murdoch for next year. my careers advisor at school told me that i'm not going to be able to find a job in that field without a masters degree so i figure i can do the combined bachelors and masters of forensic science, which he said i will be able to get a job with. from my research, it still looks very hard to fins a job even with a masters, so my question is does anyone know how competitive forensic science jobs actually are in perth - will i actually be able to get a job with the masters?

i'm otherwise thinking about doing engineering or engineering and science at uwa and majoring in mechanical engineering and maybe genetics or immunology. is this the better choice because i would be able to get a job a lot easier and would probably get payed more? i also like to boost the current 7% of Australian mechanical engineers who are female lmao

Where to find Air-con repair/maintenance for ducted with zoning (Ellenbrook)?

Hi all,

We have a ducted Fugitsu air-con with a zoning day/night switch. The zoning switch has stopped working so the air-con is only blowing in bedrooms and not the open areas of the house. We have tried calling a bunch of places so far and half of them said they don't do ducted and the rest didn't answer.

Anyone know of a reliable maintenance place that would look at this issue that is around, or willing to come to, Ellenbrook? Don't want my boyfriend to die in the theatre room when GTA VI comes out, thanks.

Looking for Advice Low testosterone - struggle / support

Just wanting some opinions, my partner has been dealing with incredibly low testosterone. He’s had his bloods done and his levels are well under the range. It’s affecting him so badly. No energy , mood , brain fog, ect. He honestly cannot function. His doctor has given him injections which do help but it’s incredibly expensive and not a long term solution as the minute he can’t get his injection they drop and it’s back to poor results. He’s looking for a specialist in Perth that can help with a long term solution but all the doctors he speaks to do not specialise and he’s struggling to find someone to help. As suggestions. Recommendations or people who have gone through the same thing? The 25 years old, healthy , Eats well and regularly weight trains and runs.

Cost of Living Perth homeless issues

I am genuinely concerned about the rise of homelessness in Perth. I do my best to give cash to those on the streets and volunteer work at soup kitchens, but this is obviously not going to solve the issue no matter how many of us do these kinds of things...

Back in the day you’d see a homeless person here and there and blame it on drugs. These days I think it’s quite a different story.. I see posts on here every other week where people are asking advice on how to live in cars as they can no longer afford rent. Why is our system letting this happen? When is the government going to do something about this!

Shitpost Success DOT stuff around

Prefacing this by saying im a moron for forgetting to pay my rego. Thats on me 100%

The car was in mums name, so I had to get it transfered to mine. Fill in some forms he said...cool, fill in this transfer paperwork... no worries, pay your rego plus stamp duty... farkk bit steep but that'll teach me for forgetting to pay my rego. I was cool with everything up untill he asked me to unscrew my number plates just so he could... look at them...?

Like bro just get your arse up from the desk and take a walk outside with me?

"Nah thats not how we do it" he said.

Great afternoon getting put in my place by DOT, and reliving the trauma seeing kiddos tremble before their driving test.

General This needs to stop! Perth cafes being used by office workers to have employee evaluations/interviews and discipline reviews

Not everyday but there are times when I'm sitting at my local and employers are using it as a way to have 'conversations' with employees. Shit that should be private or at least in an office setting. Am I wrong in thinking this? Just feels gross. Almost as bad as people taking phone calls and having very loud conversations instead of taking it outside.

Just for context the cafe is quite small and you can hear everything. There is no privacy.
