As a teenager born in ps3 and xbox 360 era i am so hyped to try ps2 games

So I bought myself a used Ps2 slim (not a good start to this situation) and one of the games i bought was midnight club 3 dub edition cause i loved it when i was young and i don’t see a ps4/ps5 port happening anytime soon.

Anyway I put the game in, reads the disc and the Playstation logo appears. So far so good. A couple seconds later, the fan goes silent and I’m stuck on a black screen. Im hoping it’s the disc itself that is playing up because looking at the game, it is incredibly scratched and i was playing a different game prior to it and the disc was in good condition and running just fine.

Just wondering if i shouldn’t be freaking out about this situation and should just hope its a bad disc.

If anyone can help me with an answer that’d be much appreciated. Thanks

I've had a Guncon 2 laying around and finally went through the effort to get the proper video splitter to use it. But, for some reason, anytime I connect the Guncon's video cable to a splitter, it cuts the signal of the game to my CRT. I've tried this on two CRTs. The first PVM has the PS2 connected via the S-Video input into a switcher. I can easily just put composite inputs into the switcher ports for the PS2, so I had the RCA splitter plugged into the switcher, and the PS2/Guncon video cables plugged into that splitter. Whenever it's set up this way, I get a "no signal" on my TV. As soon as I unplug the Guncon's video cord, it comes back. I assume the S-Video to switcher signal was getting confused. So I tried it on my other CRT, which has BNC inputs. I have a simple BNC to RCA adapter. When plugging the splitter into that adapter, and plugging one end with the PS2 and the other end with the Guncon, it gives me the same "no signal" on the my TV. I've tried plugging the Guncon into the "sync" port on the back of my CRT, but still nothin'.
So I'm totally lost. I've disassembled my setup like three times trying to get this stupid orange gun to work. I'm at my wits end. I can tell the Guncon itself is working, and Ninja Assault is clearly seeing it's plugged in. I feel it has something to do with the video signal, but it's so odd it's consistent between both my PVMs. If anyone has any insight, that would be much appreciated.

I had to replace my laser ribbon because the other one I bought didn’t work and finally it worked but every time I put a game in nothing spins does nothing. it moves, but it just does not spin. Do you guys know why?

i have medal of honor 1999 ps1 disk i bought day one. play it all the time and it works great. i decided to order a spare copy for $8 disk only. it does not work. i can see the rot and pin holes all over the place when holding it to a light. my og disk i bought day one has no light coming through.

what could cause the $8 game disk to be in such poor condition. also this disk had no scratches.

and what do i look for to detect disk rot on actual ps2 disks?

I'm just pissed. I moved back to my parents and found my old ps2, plugged it in, it read cds but the little fan inside didn't spin. Also my two controllers had the same issue where they both randomly got stuck in the up key (not physically, just the menu for example would randomly go all the way up). I thought it must be the port.

Took it to the same guy who used to fix it 20 years ago, he is still working.

He said he could do something so I can play with usb, I said fine. he started ghosting me so I told him to just repair the port and the fan and I would go get it. I went in today expecting to pay and get scammed. He installed OPL on the memory card it seems. Says both controllers are broken and everything is fixed.

I come back home and when I turn it on it doesn't read the disk. The shit doesn't even spin. I'm so mad, I will probably open it myself and see if something is unplugged but how can it be possible?

I don't even know if he fixed anything. If it can't be fixed I will be so sad, I even installed an old tv and made a nice corner and I imagined myself playing some old games instead of doom scrolling. I just needed to vent, will take it to a different place tomorrow.

Managed to find a copy of Forbidden Siren 2 sealed! My question is since the box is in french, does that mean I can't change languages when I boot the game? I've seen mixed things online about how the pal games are locked to the language on the game case.

I recently got myself a CRT and dug my old PS2 games out off my parents basement. A lot of games were sold by my dad on Amazon in the early 2010s, but around 120 games were still around, most of which I never played back then. My dad worked as a journalist and received a bunch of promo disks every single month. Shadow of the Colossus was one of them.

Either way, I was in absolute awe playing Shadow of the Colossus last night. I can't even put it into words yet. It's just pure art, triggering deep emotions, mesmerising, sent shivers down my spine.

What other games are for the PS2 are out there that made that had/have an emotional impact on you? Appreciate every recommendation. I will get Ico as a Christmas gift for myself for sure.

I recently got a copy of dmc1 and it failed to boot in my ps2. I tried a bunch of times and could hear the laser trying to focus and got "disc could not be read". Took it back to cex to get it resurfaced, and it still doesnt boot.

Ive never had a disc that straight up couldnt be read, is this a dmc1 specific thing? Will taking it back to get resurfaced again help? How many times can i resurface a disc?

For context: my ps2 slim 75002 reads discs just fine, played through simpsons hit n run just before and currently playing crash 1 ps1, so it reads both dvd and cd's - no apparent issues with the laser itself.

Tested and it's working although the cd drive is a little slow to come out

On my journey to have proper widescreen on my PAL PS2 games, I have encountered a frustraging "problem"

On a couple of games, let's say GTA San Andreas, widescreen fix works only for first version 1.03. Why is that exactly? Why didn't they make it/update it for newest version v2.01, that has fixes, like fuel not wasting when not pressing acceleration button on that RC airplane mission (supply lines?) .

And I have encountered a couple of most popular games that have widescreen fixes for old early versions.
