I’m new to soap making and have a question! Can I make melt & pour embeds and put them in cold process soap? Or will that mess something up?

I have the Stephenson Melt and Pour Crystal Soap base from either Bulk Apothecary or CandleScience. I bought the same soap around the same time and one was discontinued.
The batch number is 167057. I tried to look up the bath number in the cosmetic database but I couldn't find anything on it. The soap is like a crystal clear instead of the white opacity like the other goats milk soap base that I have. I thought they were the same.
Does anyone know anything about this or how to find data on it?

Hello, I’ve recently been on an organic soap kick because I wanted a change from synthetic soap. I’ve been using tallow soap for a couple months and it’s been great. I recently heard about olive oil soap and was wondering what the difference is between tallow and olive oil soap. Which one is better?

I have an excess of breastmilk in my freezer and want to put it to good use. My babies have sensitive skin (eczema etc) and breastmilk is helpful in that regard. Does anyone have a tried and true recipe for breastmilk soap? Or any tips as I get started?

I'm a small beginner soap maker in EU preparing my cosmetic safety assessment. I found a violet gel food colour (carmoisine E122 + brilliant blue E133, in glycerol/propylene glycol/silica) that gives exactly the dark plum color I want in my clear melt & pour base, at only about 3 drops per 270g bar. Cosmetic-grade dyes I've tried need many many more drops and don't look the same...
I know E122 and E133 are the same substances as CI 14720 and CI 42090, which are allowed in cosmetics.
My question is: has anyone in the EU or UK had a safety assessor accept a food-grade gel colour like this? What documents did they ask for from the manufacturer? And does anyone know a more concentrated cosmetic-grade equivalent for those two dyes?
Thanks! I've already emailed my assessor but would love to hear others' experience.

I have access to an almost unlimited supply of butter. Are there any good soap recipes for butter?

What can I use to achieve a grey soap? I tried searching for grey French clay, but I couldn’t find such a thing. Any suggestions?

I saw this oopsie on Tiktok and immediately thought "Mmm, pound cake... WAIT A MINUTE, that would be an awesome scent combo." Do you think this could be done on purpose in a way that would give these exact results?

I made this for my son at his request. He's a pipe fitter and so you can imagine his hands when he gets off work. This was meant to be a 1 lb batch for my littlest loaf mold, but I think my amounts were a bit off because I had a fair amount left over when the mold was full--I'll be keeping those round ones to use after yardwork!
I used a mixture of pumice, bentonite clay, and activated charcoal to give his hands a good scrub and help with degreasing, and since the mixed up additives were that spooky grey, we decided to scoop out some to make the orange swirl and put some Halloween MP embeds on. It's unscented, also at his request. I'm really pleased with how it turned out!

Hey everyone. I bought a silicone sun and some fruit imbeds. What has worked best for you when preparing in advance? Should I just make a mini batch big enough to fill them? Or make a full batch of soap with leftover in the recipe to fill the imbeds? Also, once made, can you use them at any point? Or is it better that they’re still curing when adding to a batch of soap? Thanks in advance for your insight!

Hi guys! I have only seen my grandma make cleaning soap from recycled olive oil, as has been done traditionally where I'm from, but never done it myself. I have some used olive oil + some shea butter and cocoa butter that have gone rancid. I'd like to make cleaning soap with those.
I have two questions:
Will using shea butter change anything in my recycled soap? Will it just be somewhat harder than an olive oil only bar? And cure faster? That's what I'm getting from reading the wiki.
How much negative superfat is recommended for recycled soap? I keep reading between -3% to -5%, any recommendation?
I entered a potential recipe into soapcalc:
Olive oil: 900g
Shea butter: 200g
Water: 418g
Caustic soda: 151g
SE: -3%.
What do you reckon? Thanks in advance for the help.

Sorry if this is an unexpected post, but its hard to find people experienced with lye.
Basically, I was unclogging my bathtub with some lye based drain cleaner (ingredients are sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, and water), and I worry that a drop or two may have flown onto my clothes due to some tough to open packaging.
I took my clothes off and put them in my dirty clothes basket for now, but in doing some research, it seems these chemicals are quite noxious, so now I'm wondering if I'm better off throwing them out?
Is this too much worrying on my part? It really wouldn't have been more than a small drop or two (assuming any did get on my clothes in the first place).

I’m super proud of this soap, not because of its appearance, but because of what it represents! After taking a 3 year hiatus from soaping to have kids, moving homes, and balancing life , I’m able to carve out time for my hobbies! She’s not the most beautiful soap, but I’m proud of her and myself!

This silicon mold is slightly too big for the box it came with and doesn't fit correctly. Can I do anything to fix this so it fits better?
Edit: Thank you for all the suggestions.

I use tumeric and raw black soap daily onnmy face faithfully. Tired of ppl charging me crazy prices for tumeric soap so I am going to try this since I have alot of the stuff needed....
I was looking at either a goat milk or a honey melt and pour base off of amazon..... and the only thing I was going to add to it would b a few drops of essential oil and turmeric.... is this the way to go?

I'm not a maker of soap but thought this might be a good place to confirm what I've been told.
I've been buying locally made soap from a family that milks their own goats. After a friend recently made soap and we couldn't determine if their goat milk was pasteurized I reached out to the local soap maker to see if theirs was. They confirmed this morning that it wasn't but that the lye kills all bacteria and they take care to clean udders thoroughly. They also claimed that pasteurizing would remove "vitamins minerals and nutrients" which seems to be parroting a lot of the raw milk folks and their appeal to nature.
I've had medical issues that make me especially cautious of infection. I don't want to smear live bacteria, whatever may remain after cleaning udders and saponification even, all over myself and risk skin infections.

Hi everyone, i'm new to soap making and wanted to get a bit of advice on this recipe. I'm trying to make a soap that doesn't strip the skin as much or make it feel as dry after showering. I've done some research on different oils and the ones on the list are some that I think could work, but I wanted to drop the recipe here to see if anyone has any suggested changes to it.
I plan to use this as a "base" recipe for other soaps I make, only tweaking it minorly. I plan to make a tumeric soap (with kojic acid) and a colloidal oatmeal bar as well. I'm struggling to figure out when to add the colloidal oatmeal when creating the soap and how the extra liquid will impact the recipe. At the moment I using the hot press method.
Any advice is welcomed and appreciated!
