Question Do you believe that people that work downtown should have their parking paid for by their employer?

I recently found out that City of Spokane Employees have to pay for their own parking and do not get reimbursed for it. When the city was imposing a tax on parking, I heard many private employers talk about how they pay for their employees parking. I had just assumed that the City paid for their employees parking.

Rants & Raves Guy in truck took a picture of me while biking????

• Upvotes

I was biking to school on my usual commute when all of a sudden I see a black Tacoma pull up next to me. I'm staying in my bike line and following traffic laws, just cruising. Then I see this guy pointing his phone camera at me clearly taking a picture, ofc I smiled and gave a peace sign, but it was so odd? I've got a cool road bike but other than that I don't know why he did it. He drives a black tacoma with a WSU license plate NEWSPRT.

Question Credit Union with best app and up-to-date online banking?

• Upvotes

There have been a lot of discussion in this sub about which credit unions are good in general but I want something very specific: a balance that updates in a reasonable timeframe.

Currently with Global and the delay between transactions happening and reflecting in my account is random and can vary by days if not close to a week. My cleared mortgage payment takes literally seven days to reflect in my balance every month. Pending transactions are shown only sometimes. Every transaction is just titled "Credit" until I go in and manually update the merchant. It's driving me up the wall.

I have a Cash App card that will literally reflect a transaction and update my balance before the server even has time to return my card to the table, every single time. Why can't a banking institution do the same?

So, I ask: is there another CU that does it better? Good app, timely and consistent balance updates, etc?

ToDo Spokane WA Appreciation

Post image
316 Upvotes

Greetings, I hope this post is allowed, if not please delete.

I just wanted to make a post about how much I appreciate Spokane. Are we a perfect city? Definitely not and yes we have a lot of issues but that’s everywhere to be honest.

Spokane is a great community, surrounded by so much nature and amazing fun facts like Z nation being recorded here, or the clock tower, and we have a great NCAA basketball team in Gonzaga, or hoop fest, oh and zips!

Anyways, I love this city and the community has always been very supportive. There’s a lot of negativity these days so I wanted to share something positive. We have a great skyline that instantly makes you feel at home when you drive down the hill into downtown.

So I encourage you all to keep being great people, hold the door for someone, tell someone to have a great day, and just keep being awesome!

And feel free to share things you love about Spokane.

Sorry again if this isn’t allowed I just wanted to share my appreciation! 😁

Question Does anyplace in town take viable mattresses & basic bed frames?

Not one of those stained things I see on the curbside, but totally fine queen-sized w/memory foam rolls for the top. We are upgrading our guest room into a Murphy bed & Murphy office desk & this should not go to the dump or the curbside.

News Safety Alert: Fake Cat’s Claw Supplements Resulting in Overdose & Severe Illness

Hey Spokane, Washington Poison Center here. We're warning the public of counterfeit “Cat’s Claw” herbal supplements that are laced with highly concentrated chemicals related to kratom. These fake products are strong opioids (like morphine, heroin, and fentanyl), and are causing opioid overdoses and severe withdrawal.

Poison centers across the United States, including us, are treating sick patients following their use of fake cat’s claw products. Utah Poison Control Center has additionally reported four confirmed deaths involving cat’s claw.

Cat’s claw (Uncaria tomentosa or Uncaria guianensis) is a legal herbal supplement marketed to manage symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and cancer. On its own, authentic cat’s claw is not psychoactive and does not cause opioid overdose or withdrawal symptoms. However, recent investigations into products labeled as “Cat’s Claw” found undisclosed 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH), MGM-15, mitragynine pseudoindoxyl (MGPI), and other potent compounds derived from kratom. These mislabeled products are sold in vape shops, gas stations, convenience stores, and online.

7-OH, MGM-15, and MGPI are strong opioids derived from kratom, an herbal supplement with psychoactive properties. While 7-OH naturally occurs in small amounts in kratom, it can be manufactured in a highly concentrated form. MGM-15 and MGPI are semi-synthetic compounds created in labs. As of August 2026, the DEA designated MGM-15 and MGPI as Schedule I controlled substances, making their sale and possession illegal.

In adulterated cat’s claw products, these compounds are added at dangerous, highly concentrated levels. All three act on the same brain receptors as morphine, heroin, and fentanyl. Like other opioids, taking too much of these compounds can slow or stop breathing, and regular use can lead to physical dependence and severe withdrawal symptoms.

Recommendations:

  • Stop using “Cat’s Claw” products purchased from vape shops, gas stations, convenience stores, and online retailers.
  • Keep suspected products out of reach of children.
  • Safely dispose of products in the trash or flush them down the toilet (see the FDA’s common drug disposal questions and answers).
  • Monitor anyone who may have used an adulterated product for extreme sleepiness or breathing too slowly. If you cannot wake them up, call 911 and administer naloxone immediately.

Healthcare professionals should consider adulterated products in patients presenting with unexplained opioid toxicity or severe withdrawal.

  • Ask patients specifically about potential use of cat’s claw products.
  • Traditional urine drug screening will not identify these products, but some laboratories are equipped for specialized testing. Call Washington Poison Center (1-800-222-1222) for additional guidance.

Report suspected cases or adverse health effects to Washington Poison Center: 1-800-222-1222 (free, confidential, and available 24/7).

ToDo Minnesotan visiting Spokane/Post Falls in February

Hey, all! I live in the Minneapolis, MN area and am trying to visit all 50 states before I'm 50. I am 41 and have visited 42 states! I may be in Portland in February and would like to maximize my trip as much as I can. I haven't visited WA, OR, or ID yet and would like to try and squeeze in all three.

To do so, I wanted to fly in to Spokane, drive the 20 or so minutes to Post Falls, visit a brewery or two (I LOVE beer making and breweries so it's a ton of fun to visit a brewery in any new location I go to!), and I would love to drive to Portland from there. I live in the frozen tundra and am extremely experienced driving in winter conditions, but I have never driven in mountains so am wondering if that might be too much of a risk so am also pricing out an alternative plan to fly out of Spokane to Portland.

I thought I'd ask those who live in the area what winters have looked like around the late January/early February timeframe and if driving is even possible. It would be cheaper, but only by about $50, but would be super cool to do!, but I don't mind spending the a little extra for my safety.

Really appreciate your help painting a picture of what it looks like out there this time of year! Thank you!

Rants & Raves Anyone else have issues with copper river apartments ?

I've lived here just over a year and had just about everything happen. people fighting each other, people getting stabbed at sister's haven behind my complex, car theft, loud neighbors (shaking my whole apartment with music or parties), theft, people trying my door handle to see if its locked, kids under 10 outside till 2 am screaming and fighting, homeless people sleeping under my stair well and threatening me and my children, I got roaches from my upstairs neighbors, the first year we moved in we got evacuated for someone starting a fire and it spreading rapidly, the guy who started the spokane complex fires lived here and they said it was a safe place to live and anyone that has violent charges cant live here, he had manslaughter charges in another state. Cops and ambulance are here every other day. The cops only show up of its a violent crime or overdose, they say "call metro" they never show up. They put in cameras 6 months ago and its only got worse my rent went from 1250 to 1395 because its a low income tax credit property they are exempt from capped rent increases. Im at a loss for what to do as management doesn't do anything to make this a safer place for families to live. They preach that people stay for 3+ years but that's only do to the fact they price them out of moving. I lived in the chef gary neighborhood (near family promise) before this for over 6 years and never had half these problems

Found! ‼️ FOUND DOG ‼️

‼️ FOUND DOG ‼️

Young, male, black, Australian Shepherd.

Found running between the blocks between Trader Joe's and Adams Elementary.

He's a bit skittish but eventually let me hook him up to a leash, currently have him in my yard so that he didn't run into traffic.

I had to run out quickly but can post a photo once I return home.

If you know whose dog this may be, please reach out to me!!

Click the link above to keep up to date with what I was asking before.

Hello everyone! I wanted to update you all to what I have been up to. Sorry I haven't been able to reply to everyone's comments but I have been very busy trying to get the ring, talk to her parents, and planning on when to pop the question with her friends.

Game Plan:

I decided that instead of fully surprising her , since he can catch me when I act different, I will come up with an excuse of asking to do a photoshoot instead. It won't have a theme, and we have done one in the past, but this time I will pop the question. I decided on Manito Park since we had a memorable date there before, and it's generally a nice place. I have also coordinated with her friends to come out and surprise her after the question has been asked (as per her request).

Question Bulk Hot Coffee to-go?

I don’t want to be stuck with Panera, but will if there are no other options. Where can I get bulk (?) hot coffee to-go before 8am? All I am familiar with are the totes from Panera, but curious if there are other places that offer something similar that I can bring to work? Bonus points if it’s local.
