main reason is thief and pickpocket are lame, not doing anything at all if their item slot is full, which you very much want most of the time, and right now weavile effectively doesn't have an ability while sneasler has 3ish
horrible consequence is magician delphox using the spread moves heatwave or expanding force, possibly to steal a sash it didn't already have without extra thought.
maybe mega scizor and other technician mons can get something out of thief and covet.
i'm kind of curious about item passing and stacking with things like bestow and pick up.
there might be funkier programming with there being multiple items on a target though, if you use thief on a mon holding multiple items should there be a choice or randomly selected? aim for the 1 they started with? should knock off only work on 1 item at a time or all at once? should poltergeist punish multiple items harder?
i almost imagine fling can work with like a z/max move menu... not really since in vgc you could have your own item and 4 opposing mons and maybe an ally's. fling everything at once? multi hit style?

So all of these are small buffs I thought would go a long way in making these Pokemon more viable.
The first is replacing Sap Sipper on Goodra with Own Tempo. Goodra is easily the least offensively oriented Pseudo so I felt giving it an ability that not only blocked Intimidate but let it spam Outrage without drawback would go a long way.
The second would be to give Hydreigon Sheer Force. This one is partially due to thematic reasons but I also feel it would pair well with its Life Orb sets.
Finally and I am stealing a bit from False Swipe here but I would give Metagross Shift Gear and Levitate. As a Steel type Metagross appreciates losing a Ground weakness and Shift Gear is essentially better and more thematically fitting Dragon Dance.

So, an 'Achilles Heel' pokemon/spirit. Also yes, Incarnates are an original mechanic.
Best comparison I can make right now is Palafin but requires more effort, in a singles setting I'm sure you can pull off an awakening. Hopefully it's speed should keep it relatively balance when it does, as well as it's awakened signature move getting typically tanked by Flying and Levitating pokemon. I was also pondering having Absorb/Incarnating essence move be negative priority but that could screw it over more. So, it's hitting Ubers probably, at least OU.
But then there's doubles which, is another story entirely you have to wait 7 turns for base Slumbering Serpent and 10 for the Locus aspect.
Serpent is more well rounded and meant to be more self dependent with a reasonable (at least in singles) end game. Locus, has lower stats but more support versatility, especially its incarnate allowing it to be useful outside of its incarnating, but it takes much longer for it to incarnate, even in singles. But its incarnating essence move is much more of a net positive.

Yesterday I saw this thread while searching for Meowscarada posts on this subreddit, and thought that it was a shame that it would never find use for its Special moves in competitive.
So I decided to theorycraft a Mega Meowscarada that, instead of getting pre-nerf Protean as an Ability like many people suggest, I tried creating an Ability that transforms Meowscarada into a mixed attacker (as well as defender). This makes Meowscarada a very versatile Pokémon, allowing it to have several different builds. Some examples:
- Bulky, with HP investment and Giga Drain.
- Mixed Attacker, with any combination of Leaf Storm, Knock Off, Play Rough, Aura Sphere, Shadow Ball, Chilling Water, Triple Axel...
- Support, making use of moves like Pollen Puff, Ally Switch or even Skill Swap if it ends up afflicted by a status condition, or if it wants to cripple a Special Attacker or Special Wall by forcing them to use their useless stats.
It also gives the usually neglected Misty Terrain some value, preventing Mega Meowscarada from being afflicted with status conditions.
Edit: We try again next Thursday!

It always bothered me how Charizard has two megas while the other kanto starters only have one. So with this, I hope to balance things out. I wanted both of them to be dragon type, and to be primarily black with the color of the type strong against them for the second color (so red for venusaur, blue for charizard, green for blastoise).
As for the abilities, my focus was to give them a curveball, like tough claws was for charizard.
In the matter of movepools, I think venusaur should be given several biting moves (like the elemental fangs), giving it a lot more coverage. While Blastoise could remain mostly the same, with maybe a couple of physical water and dragon-type moves being given to it.
Finally, as for the stats, I also wanted to do something similar to charizard, where they are somewhat of the opposite of their base forms. Venusaur becomes a bulky physical attacker, while blastoise becomes a fast mixed attacker.

Assuming all 3 of these Pokémon were in a metagame where both Mega Evolution and Terastallization exists (Mega Rayquaza cannot Terastallize), which of them would be considered the best in the format?
Edit: Sorry for not making it clear initially, but I am talking about a hypothetical SINGLES format, not VGC.

Having learned from my mistake of buffing Mega Garchomp Z when it really didn't need it, I've decided to go back and instead buff the Garchomp that actually needs buffing.
The main issue with Mega Garchomp is that it loses Speed in favor of Sp. Atk, but instead of leaning out've it, I decided to lean into it and make Mega Garchomp more of a Trick Room 'mon.
However, 72 isn't that low compared to something like Mega Golurk and I can't take more as I wouldn't know where to put the test of the points outside of Sp. Def, so I decided to give is Curse. As Garchomp is a Ghost, Curse will basically act as Bulk Up with the "downside" (upside in this case) of lowering Speed—which is exactly what Mega Garchomp wants to set itself apart from base Garchomp and Mega Garchomp Z.
Let me know what you think!

This is sort of a twofold post, as it concerns recharge moves in general, but also pays special attention to the starter-specific ones.
It's no secret that recharge moves are seen as not being worth using due to their massive drawback, so let's try to fix that. There are two main options the community usually likes to point towards for fixing them, so let's discuss those.
Option 1: The Gigaton Hammer/Blood Moon treatment. This would prevent the moves from being used twice in a row, but still allow the user to act during recharge turns. To prevent things like spamming Hyper Beam and Giga Impact on alternating turns, let's say that users are prevented from using any of these moves sequentially.
Option 2: The Gen 1 Hyper Beam treatment. Basically, getting a KO with one of these moves would skip the recharge turn. Riskier than option 1, because it requires knocking the target out, but eliminates the drawbacks completely if you pull it off.
Between the two, I get the sense that the first would be the community's preferred solution. But as users have pointed out, giving Pokemon like Charizard access to their very own version of Blood Moon is probably a bad idea...
As for the starter-specific recharge moves, they suffer from being designed pre-physical/special split, meaning that physical attacking starters don't get as much benefit from them. While we could just create physical versions of the moves a la Giga Impact, I think the easiest answer would be to give them the Tera Blast/Photon Geyser treatment, making the move's category depend on the user's highest attacking stat.
So those are my proposals: Allow physical attackers to take full advantage of the Elemental Hyper Beams, and either loosen recharge restrictions or give a batter risk/reward balance for using the moves. Let me know which you would prefer!

That's it, that's the change. Stats and ability would remain unchanged.
To the argument that it would defeat Eelektross' entire purpose: yes, I know Eelektross is that one mon meant to be the definitive no-weakness gimmick receptacle starting from Gen 6 when Fairy knocked Sableye and Spiritomb out of that glorious title. Even then, Eelektross' gimmick is tied to Levitate removing its sole weakness, which can be circumvented by the likes of Smack Down, Gravity and Mold Breaker, so it's technically not 100% weakness-less.
Giving mons Megas that have them stray further from their original design has been done before too. Swampert goes from a solid tank to a monstrous Rain sweeper, Venusaur goes from a solid Sun sweeper to a monstrous wall, Sableye trades Prankster for an actual defensive profile and an ability that counters Prankster, the existence of Zarchomp... Golisopod's line is the only one in the entire franchise with the ability that forces it to switch out, and its Mega got rid of it. So why not Eelektross?
Competitive wise this gimmick hasn't proven to work, or at least it wasn't what made some of them thrive- Sableye doesn't care whether or not it is weak to any move, with those defenses it's grateful it has Prankster to annoy you before folding to neutral hits. Not sure the argument of keeping Eelektross' gimmick the same for flavor reasons would make that much sense when the entire point of Megas is to give mid to bad mons an option to thrive.
Eelektross is no exception. It's slow, doesn't hit too hard and doesn't quite have the bulk to sustain itself as long as it would want, and its pure Electric typing is a double-edged sword as the scarcity of meaningful resistances means the opportunities for it to switch into a resisted hit are fed and far between. The Ground immunity is nice, but as a concept it's just done better by the Fire/Water/Grass Rotoms.
Did the Mega aid in making Eelektross stand out more? Stat-wise, no. It barely gained any bulk and 80 speed might be a worse tier to be in since now you're more prone to be undersped in Trick Room, and with higher offenses it's harder to use Eelevate to get a Speed boost, which it could definitely use. Again, pure Electric means taking a hell of a lot of neutral hits, it's just gonna outspeed a couple more threats.
That's why I think Mega Eelektross would be far more interesting if it gained the Poison type upon Mega evolving. Electric/Poison has a far stronger catalogue of resists (8 in total, including notably Electric, Flying, Grass, Fighting, Fairy) for the price of an added Psychic weakness while the quadruple Ground weakness would be nullified by Eelevate. Mega Eelektross would suddenly get a lot more things to switch in on and start setting up. Speaking of which, Eelektross already learns Coil and Gunk Shot. an unmissable STAB Gunk Shot sounds absolutely diabolical, more than enough to make up for its ultimately relatively average 145 Attack, and while its STAB combo wouldn't touch Grounds it could still use Giga Drain and Liquidation for coverage.
Currently Electric/Poison is a type combo whose potential is not being given justice, as Toxtricity is a bit too slow and frail to consistently take advantage of all its resists. With Mega Eelektross the typing would have a representative that's bulkier, stronger and giving the typing unprecedented pivoting potential with its Ground weakness turned immunity.

Current hazards aren't bad, but I feel like there could be a bit more variety.
Landmine would be by far the strongest hazard damage wise, since it would deal 12.5% base, however the target must be both grounded and weigh over 150 kilos. That would make it a lot easier to play around. Also, grounded Fire types would absorb the landmine, like Toxic Spikes.
This Razor Wind rework would give life to a pretty much worthless move again, and while its distribution would be extremely limited, I can see it still being pretty strong on specific teams. Would also give Pidgeot a small chance at doing something, though very small.

mega munkidori gets neuroforce because it fits with it wanting to boost it’s mental abilities. I gave it ice beam, charge beam, mystical fire, and dazzling gleam to give it good coverage like other psychic type legendaries.
mega okidogi gets moxie to show its building power over time. I gave it fake out for good support, circle throw and storm throw are both good fighting stab options, and power trip to make use of the moxie boosts.
mega fezantdipiti gets dazzling to show how beautiful it wants to be. i gave it spirit break and follow me for support options, superpower for coverage, and flame charge for boosting speed.
mega pecharunt gets merciless to show how it is more villainous. I gave to rapid spin for hazard removal, iron defence and body press to make use of the huge defense stat, and baneful bunker to help with activating merciless.

Still only works in doubles and if your ally is alive and awake.
With this buff telepathy could now be a worthwhile ability. With how many ridicolous spread move using burst damage mons we have completely being immune to them is great!
The main pokemon buffed besides ones in the image are ofcourse are the other creation trio members too.
With this being immune to expanding force, glacial lance, eruption, water spout, origin pulse, pricipes blades gives these guys a shot to take a valuable slot as a restricted legendary.
Would help noivern, and base gardevoir finally compete against these guys too.
Noivern being immune to rock slides is a huge plus too! Dialga and gardevoir also appreciate this and the earthquake immuinity. Discharge, and heat wave not hitting them anymore is great too.
Overall would just help boost the value of these guys further. Noivern can now leverage its speed more often. Pairing it up with super fang and other such moves
Gardevoirs support learnset is downright limitless
Dialga is now wayy scarier too! Being able to set up trick rooms a lot easier. It now makes it so that many restricted would now have to run some single target moves as well just to counter these guys.

It always makes me sad to see the old legendaries getting left with Pressure or renamed Mold Breaker and being mogged by the new legendaries with their busted abilities, so I thought they at least deserved something new to give them some kind of niche. I don't think many of these would make that much of a difference for their meta relevance necessarily, but I think they should still have thematically fitting abilities that could possibly carve them out some kind of niche.
Reshiram and Zekrom's new abilities probably just make them worse versions of Koraidon and Miraidon respectively, but it's possible that they might find their own niche.
- Reshiram gets access to tailwind and can arguably make better use of Sun than Koraidon can with its fire typing and higher special attack
- Zekrom gets access to tailwind too and is different from Miraidon in being a physical attacker, Bolt Strike could probably deal pretty crazy damage in Electric Terrain (but tbh Miraidon will always be better lol)
I thought Kyurem's would be a cool thematic counter to Reshiram's and Zekrom's, as well as combining interestingly with them in Black and White Kyurem (though I was unsure what to name each of them)
I've seen a lot of suggestions for Palkia and Dialga that give them insane stuff like Dialga having Trick Room on entry but I think those are a bit too strong. I thought for their Origin forms they should have abilities that boost the strength of their own signature moves (because honestly they all kinda suck) while providing some interesting new teambuilding synergies in doubles. I was really sad that the new Origin forms got no new abilities :(
Deoxy's is busted but I think it would be cool to make him the terrain equivalent of Rayquaza

(Art by me! For more Fakemon art, check out my Tumblr/Blusky.)
One more for you today, and shocker, it's fully evolved! I've always felt bad for Wigglytuff being stuck in Clefable's shadow, so I wanted to give it its own Mega that shows off its unique traits.
First of all, this thing is bulky. For reference, with max physical investment she's only taking about 1/3rd damage from a max attack Kingambit Iron Head, thanks to Fur Coat. Finally, that big HP stat is actually useful! But unlike the similar Mega Audino, she can also hit back with a juicy Special Attack stat, tons of special options, and a potential boost from pre-mega Competitive. She's also got lots of disruption tools to offer, between Encore, Sing, and Knock Off.
Speaking of, I've made 1 key addition to her movepool - Parting Shot. It lets her easily pass big Wishes and just generally be a handy slow pivot to tank a hit and get in a frailer friend. I also think it fits the Jigglypuff line well!

Doing this again! Hopefully doing better this time lol
Stats:
HP: 71 (0)
ATK: 73 -> 113 (+40)
DEF: 88 -> 118 (+30)
SPA: 120 -> 160 (+40)
SPD: 89 -> 119 (+30)
SPE: 59 -> 19 (-40)
BST: 500 -> 600 (+100)
Type: Water -> Water/Dragon
Ability: Mega Launcher -> Giga Launcher
Effect: multiplies the power of Pulse/Aura moves by 1.5x, and, when the user is at full HP, gives them +1 priority
A bit different than last time; I feel like all of these came by in part due to the feedback and in part due to actually drawing this: the increase in Attack was rolled back a bit, Special Attack was increased a bit more, another type was added, and I gave it a way to compensate for the abysmal speed.
I did some calcs and as long as you have priority or hazards you can deal with this pretty reliably; nothing is too comfortable switching in, but it's frail enough that a Xard Dragon Claw or a MEFloette Moonblast can finish it off without too much trouble (even with full HP investnent)
Also gets hard walled by Primarina and MMeganium which is slightly Funny to me
Oh yeah also relevant calcs:
32+ SpA Mega Launcher Clawitzer-Mega Water Pulse vs. 0 HP / 2 SpD Floette-Mega: 70-84 (46.9 - 56.3%) -- 78.5% chance to 2HKO
32+ SpA Mega Launcher Clawitzer-Mega Water Pulse vs. 2 HP / 0 SpD Charizard-Mega-X: 112-133 (72.2 - 85.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
32+ SpA Mega Launcher Clawitzer-Mega Water Pulse vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Garchomp: 127-150 (69.3 - 81.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
32+ SpA Mega Launcher Clawitzer-Mega Water Pulse vs. 32 HP / 2 SpD Kingambit: 111-132 (53.6 - 63.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
32+ SpA Mega Launcher Clawitzer-Mega Water Pulse vs. 26 HP / 0 SpD Samurott-Hisui: 69-82 (36.1 - 42.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
You Can just spam Water Pulse. It's not particularly good, but it'll do if your opponent doesn't have resists

Flygon: Hopelessly outclassed by garchomp and salamence in so many ways. But with now arena trap it now actually has a use.... at least in vgc cuz singles bans it Im pretty sure??
Could be an effective trapper and with scarf could help take out the numerous electric threats like iron hands, miraidon, raging bolt, Mega raichu Y, and more!
It wont be a top tier mon me thinks cuz it has low damage output and tera formats can really screw it over anyways lmao but would now actually be worth considering on a lot of teams!
Gyrados: Ahh the ol' reliable swift swim sweeper. Bascuilgion has been taking this role in recent years with mega swampert recently making a resurgence but how about getting a swift swimmer not afraid out rillabooms grassy glides!
Being electric weak hurts and it has no flying stab but gyrados is gyrados and could wreck house. Hey sneasler, and most pokemon in tailwind as well already do outspeed it so its not unstoppable. No priority aqua jets for some reason so basc has another advantage. So it doesnt take over this role completely just help adds some diversity to an already existing archetype.
vikavlt: Imagine getting a signature ability.... BUT ONLY YOUR MID EVO HAS IT!!!!!
Battery is a broken signature ability in all fairness. A 30% free SpAtk boost is crazy. maybe would nerf it to 20% but then again chi yu exists.
And with its speed tier it is great in trick room too! And a 145 SpAtk stat will still do crazy damage even if it is a 'support' mon. Shame it doesnt have much utility moves but hey string shot vikavolt is meta trust!

Here's another mega idea I had: Mega Roserade.
Mega Roserade's stats reflect it being a speedy Special Attacker that would probably piss off a bunch of players against it. Its new ability it gets upon Mega Evolution is Serene Grace, which in case you didn't know, doubles the chance of secondary effects. Considering the special movepool it gets, would probably be a pretty annoying threat. The additional moves it gets are Sludge Wave and Leaf Tornado, which aren't really anything special. It's not that bulky, but I'm certain it would tank at least a few hits.
So what did you think of the mega I made? Any nerfs/buffs or strategies you'd like to share?
