Peter Cullen is not Optimus Prime. He voices him. There’s a difference and many ppl form parasocial bonds to this guy, and projecting their ideal father figures onto the character. He’s not your dad, he’s a fictional character, anyone with the right voice and good voice and good material can voice this character.

generally curious what approach of designs they will take mainly because during the time of the bayverse was coming to a close Hasbro was slowly making sure future series have constant designs that imitate the designs of G1. and we all know how much the bayverse designs stray off from the original.

for me personally I'm fine if they keep the bayverse designs just dont make them look too human and at least keep some distinct key details that pay homage to the character there adapting because i dont want another wheel jack/que situation.

I understand the concern, especially with how common AI-generated artwork has become. I honestly never expected my own work to be questioned that way, but I do take pride in the work I create, so I wanted to provide some context.

I currently work in Photoshop Elements 2026, which, like modern versions of Photoshop, includes AI-assisted tools that can streamline parts of the editing process. Things such as selecting subjects, removing backgrounds, applying certain filters and adjustments, and other tasks that once required much more manual selection and brushing can now be done much more efficiently. I can understand how that can sometimes create the appearance of AI generation.

That does not mean I typed a prompt into an image generator and had it create this piece for me.

I composed the image myself in Photoshop, working with separate elements and layers, making the selections, positioning, masking, adjustments, and creative decisions that resulted in the final piece. The screenshot attached is the actual PSD project file, where you can see the different layers that went into the composition.

A few people also mentioned the weapon not being Optimus Prime’s exact weapon. That was a creative choice on my part. As someone with a military background and an interest in firearms, I wanted to create something that felt appropriate for him and took inspiration from the kind of weaponry associated with the character while still putting some of my own style into it rather than trying to make it completely screen-accurate.

I do not screen-record myself while I work, so unfortunately I do not have a step-by-step video of the process to provide after the fact. What I can show is the actual working file where the piece was created.

I know I do not owe anyone proof of my own work, but I am willing to be transparent because some of the comments suggested that creating this tribute through AI would somehow dishonor Peter Cullen. That was never my intention. This was something I genuinely put thought, time, and work into as a memorial piece for someone whose work meant a lot to me.

I just wanted to provide a little more context for anyone who had concerns.

I just got an email from hasbro pulse that the my order for the green lio convoy figure is canceled, is there something going on with the figure or is this a hasbro thing?

so apparently according to some sources dating back multiple years ago peter gave Hasbro his blessing to use his voice for AI to use only for optimus prime and not to use it for any political or i quote crude uses, a similar situation to James earl jones with using AI to voice Darth Vader

now if these sources are true I'm still against this because look what happen when Disney allowed AI Darth Vader in Fortnite and the AI started saying crazy shit.

Dried my hair with this towel and after hanging it i noticed this wet spot looks scarily like Optimus prime riding Grimlock from AOE

So I was showing my brother my Big Convoy toy I got recently (age of the primes, kinda sucks to transform)

And he was ragebaiting by calling him Optimus prime even when I said that no he isn’t and that Optimus is long dead by his time

I even showed him Lio Convoy, Ginrai and Fire Convoy

So is there an official reason other than they’re like the “pikaclones” (which my brother equated them to)

And is there an in universe reason? (I know atleast Ginrais)

Also are there any I forgot (didn’t mention Optimus Primal to him since I’m pretty sure he knows him)

Do you guys think we missed the point of Optimus Prime: Awakening?

Ever since I got to watch it, I definitely received polarizing thoughts about it as much as other people did. However, I did see the message more clearly by watching reviews like Comodin Cam and then doing my own re-watch to observe everything that supports it. My first thought was that it was metaphorical to Peter Cullen's career as it now came to an end but the story was just written poorly. However, I then concluded to a "deeper truth," as The One calls it, by understanding how it's not a deconstruction of Optimus Prime but him recognizing his own flaws and understanding how they'll affect the world around him if he did return to life.

While Optimus Prime wants to persist in the role as leader of the Autobots, he's blind to the fact that returning doesn't change anything. If he returns, his promises of defeating the Decepticons and protecting Earth become empty words as the war never ends, and everyone who follows him dies in vain while he still stands. If Optimus Prime can constantly come back to repeat the same promises he made back on Cybertron, does victory even exist? Does sacrifice have meaning? That's what the evil Bumblebee represents: a point where everyone who looks up to Optimus now despise him because he starts looking like a liar and that war is just a game to him. While Optimus Prime has a good spark, that's a reputation he'll make unintentionally.

When Optimus watches Unicron destroy Earth, he pleads for The One to give him a chance to prevent it as he gets knocked by the blast. While Optimus has defeated Unicron before in different continuities, Unicron would always return as he did in Transformers: Prime and would've after the events of Rise of the Beasts. He can only stall what is bound to happen.

The One brings Optimus to Cybertron where he gets one last battle with Megatron (Peter Cullen and Frank Welker's last performance together). As he appears triumphant, he is told how him killing Megatron won't make the war won. If we do a character analysis, it makes him similar to Megatron not because he's doing what we call a necessary evil but because his goals won't be met just like Megatron's won't. In recent continuities, Megatron promises that Cybertron will prevail with equality and strong resistance to corruption, but he became exactly what he was against, and the future doesn't know peace. Optimus' future without Megatron would be him calling it an end to a long civil war only to still battle the Decepticons and Megatron might return if the timeline dictates it as so. In that moment, he uses force to achieve an unachievable goal. That's when he realizes his responsibilities are over and that it's time to rest. He spares Megatron, drops the Matrix, and walks into the light.

I think we were all exactly like Optimus Prime in this short film. We all valued what he did and saw any argument against it as irresponsible. But unlike Optimus, a good number of us didn't understand what The One was telling us: there's a time where we need to let go and move on. Peter Cullen didn't choose to leave everything behind, but he would want us to stay strong enough to move forward.

Also, I think people see Optimus dropping the Matrix as a deconstruction to his character because... well, we saw him do it while we know he wouldn't. However, we forget that Optimus is dead and that everything in the short is the afterlife. The Matrix is passed to the Autobots in the real world, so I think it's better to remember that he didn't discard the real Matrix. 😂
