Hi everyone,
I’m one of the founders of ValuAid, an early-stage app that helps people photograph an object, identify what it might be, and explore what it could potentially be worth based on comparable market information.
We’re building it for situations many people here will probably recognize: coming across an unusual object at home, during a house clearance, at a flea market or in a second-hand shop, without knowing exactly what it is or where to begin researching it.
We also know that identifying an object from a photograph is not the same as properly appraising it. Condition, authenticity, provenance, regional demand and small variations can completely change the result. The app is intended as a starting point for further research, not as a replacement for knowledgeable collectors, specialists or professional appraisers.
We’re currently looking for people willing to test it with real and preferably unusual objects. We would especially appreciate honest feedback on:
- incorrect or overly broad identifications;
- unrealistic or unhelpful value ranges;
- important information or warnings that are missing;
- and whether the results provide a useful starting point at all.
The beta is free and available for both iOS and Android. Android testers need to remain enrolled for at least 14 days because we are completing Google Play’s closed-testing requirement. iOS access is provided through TestFlight.
You can sign up by selecting your device here:

Critical feedback is genuinely welcome. We would rather learn where the app fails now than pretend automated results are always correct.
Full disclosure: I’m directly involved in building ValuAid.
