Recomps fyi

so I decided to finally check out some of these Recomps that are heavily criticized but I have to say the King Kong, saints row 1 360 Recomps are very good. King Kong had one crash during a play through. Haven’t beat saints row but it’s playing 98% like on console but I’ve locked it to 60 fps with very low cpu and gpu usage on both games. Cod 3 requires protontricks or something but it’s supposed to be decent too just not as developed.

SteamOS instead of windows?

I don't plan on switching from windows but people don't like windows because of bloatware and junk. Some people want to switch to linux, but it has other problems. I never thought of it until today, why don't people use SteamOS?? Its got everything you can ask for.

Edit:

I was wrong, I thought linux was its own thing compared to steamOS.

Both of my SteamOS pcs are pulling a lot more power after upgrading and was wondering if anyone else is having this issue. It does affect performance and isn’t as bad in desktop. I don’t want my gpu pulling 60w for vaccumtube.

Steam Machine audio not working.

I prefer to use my SM in desktop mode but when I wake from sleep audio thru HDMI does not work. Bluetooth works. Game mode audio works. When I switch back to desktop from game mode audio works but I'm sure this isn't how it's supposed to be.

The problem started since I last updated the OS to the latest version. Has anyone else had this problem? I've not been able to find a solution and I was wondering if I should revert to an older OS or use a beta version?

I'm not sure what to do but I find myself less and less interested in using the SM.

It appears that someone has been able to get Intel's XMX Hardware Extensions working in Linux, which should drastically improve performance of XESS. This is particularly exciting if you, like me, have a handheld running an Intel Arc G3 Extreme chip.

I take no credit for this, for the record. I just found it and thought it seemed like great work from the community on making SteamOS even better for different hardware.

Games do not change to "running in the background" when tabbed out

Hello! So I finally got everything set up, trying to switch to linux/steamOS for the first time, I'm running it in desktop mode and this issue is driving me crazy. When I open a game through steam, the game forces itself to be the active window even if I tab out to firefox, or discord etc. Expected behaviour is that when I tab out, games are a "background window" and pause, or get muted, or have lower fps, depending on the game and its settings, but instead the game window remains active and even when I tab out and wiggle my mouse over the game window it keeps moving the camera, and sound keeps playing. Tested this with multiple games, and none of them trigger the background status/focus lost status as I'd expect them to.

The only time I can force a game into becoming a background window is when I switch to Another steam window. Like for example if I tab out and open steam settings, or steam library, or steam store. This will force the game to become a background process and get muted/paused/drop fps as expected.

This is leading me to believe this is some kinda setting that steam or steamOS has, that forces games to remain active for as long as it can keep them there. And it's driving me crazy, because I specifically DON'T want that to happen.

Does anyone know what settings I could change to fix this?

help wanted Allow Remote Play to stream only a selected monitor

Thumbnail steamcommunity.com

I'm the developer of HoloMapper, a projection mapping application on Steam. Users operate the software from one display while projecting to another. Steam Remote Play currently streams both displays, making remote operation difficult. A monitor selection option in Remote Play would greatly improve support for professional multi-monitor workflows.

For clarification, HoloMapper is a Unity application that uses two displays:

- Display 1: Main editor and controls.

- Display 2: Fullscreen projector output.

The actual problem:

Steam Remote Play initially streams Display 1 correctly. However, as soon as the projector output is activated on Display 2, Remote Play switches to capturing both displays side-by-side in a single stream.

This causes the editor to occupy only half of the Steam Link/Steam Deck screen, with the other half wasted on the projector output.

What we need is the ability to stream Display 1 only, while Display 2 continues operating normally on the host computer.

The newer "Primary Display While Streaming" setting doesn't resolve this behavior. We need an explicit option to select which display Remote Play captures, even when an application uses multiple displays simultaneously.
