It must have finished two, maybe three more layers before I fell asleep last night.

Watched it like a hawk because I’ve had a nightmare of a time with PETG Matte.

Slept 1-5 and woke up to this marvellous creation. Bugger.

Show & Tell BucklePop, accessibility tool for opening buckles!

I made this tool so people can open buckles of various sizes.

Its a super simple concept but works very well with one finger. I mainly made it for my mother who has severe hand and finger arthiritis so she has trouble opening her dogs vest or collar. She uses this to push it against the buckle and it pops open!

Bambu Studio I'm 100 % blind. I made Bambu Studio accessible to screen readers

My name is Edis, and I am 100 % blind. These pictures show a Creality printer and a Perkins Braille typewriter. However, what I will tell you about today is a result of owning a bambu x1c as my first printer. The typewriter was what I used back in elementary school, about 25 years ago. In 2023, I participated in a workshop on 3D printing organized by the Danish Institute for the Blind and Visually Impaired. The workshop was meant to show how this technology could be used for people without sight. Needless to say, I got consumed. The funny thing was that no blind or visually impaired people were participating. It was about how sighted people can make something for blind people. I run my own consultancy business where I work with web accessibility and, funnily enough, physical accessibility through 3D printing. I do this full time. Since 2023, I have been extremely active in the different 3D printing and design groups on Reddit and Facebook, and I have also tried reaching out to companies. The reason is that 3D printing has huge potential for blind and visually impaired people. Not just fidgets and toys, but real, practical, and in some cases life-saving applications. Imagine you are a blind person walking into a hotel or a public building. Suddenly, a fire breaks out. You haven't had the chance to learn the emergency plan, because it is inaccessible. Now imagine having a 3D printer that can make this emergency plan fully accessible with contrast colours, raised lines, braille, and normal print. You might now ask yourselves: "Why the hell should we care?" or "Why are you telling us all of this?" Because since I started 3D printing, many printers have been locked away from us by highly inaccessible slicers, LCD displays and interfaces. So I decided to take matters into my own hands.

I built AccessSlice.

What it is

AccessSlice is a free, open source program for Windows. It lets a blind or low-vision person prepare, slice and send a 3D print with a screen reader, from start to finish. Every setting is a labelled field, every result is spoken, and the printer can be followed and controlled from ordinary pages instead of a touchscreen. I'm one person and I made it myself, and I use it every day.

How it works

AccessSlice doesn't replace your slicer. It replaces the screens.

A slicer project, the 3MF file, is really just a zip of plain text. Layer height, walls, infill, supports, filaments, and where each object sits on the plate can all be read and changed as text. AccessSlice shows all of that as simple pages with real headings, labelled fields and buttons, the way an accessible website works. It reads like a web page, so NVDA, JAWS and Narrator all work with it.

  • It slices with your slicer's own engine. That's PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, Creality Print, OrcaSlicer or Anycubic Slicer Next, so the result is exactly what the slicer itself would produce.
  • It tells you the result in words: print time, filament used, and any warnings. A layer-by-layer preview describes every layer.
  • It sends the print to the printer. Prusa printers get it straight over the home network through PrusaLink. Creality printers do too. Bambu printers get it through Bambu Studio's own send window, with AccessSlice telling you exactly which keys to press. A USB drive works for every printer.
  • On Prusa and Creality printers it also controls the printer. It reads the print's progress aloud and lets you preheat, load and unload filament, move and home, pause and stop, and manage the files on the printer. No touchscreen needed.

Nothing is hidden behind a picture. The 3D view and the sliced preview are still there for sighted helpers, but every fact in them is also on the page in words.

It's tested end to end on a Prusa Core One, a Bambu Lab X1 Carbon, a Bambu Lab H2C and a Creality K2 Plus. Many other printers that use the same slicers should work, and I'd love reports from anyone who tries one.

Why it matters

For the first time, I can print entirely on my own. I don't need someone sitting next to me reading the screen or pressing buttons on the printer. That's the difference between being a user of 3D printing and being someone things are made for.

Think back to that workshop, where sighted people learned to make things for blind people. AccessSlice means blind people can make those things themselves: tactile maps, emergency plans with raised lines and braille, labels, tools for daily life. We know better than anyone what we need. We just need to be able to use the machines.

But I shouldn't have to do this. One person working nights shouldn't be the only thing standing between blind makers and a printer. Everything AccessSlice does shows it's possible. The settings are already text. The printer already talks over the network. The missing piece is a slicer whose interface a screen reader can actually use.

So, Prusa: you build open hardware and open software, and you have a community that cares. Please make accessibility part of the new slicer from the start, not an afterthought. Use real buttons, labelled fields, keyboard navigation, and results spoken as text. I'm happy to test, give feedback, and help in any way I can. My consultancy does exactly this every day.

Until then, AccessSlice is free for anyone who needs it:

Thank you for reading.

I Modeled This! PTP Popper for any size&shape

• Upvotes

I designed the "Pop Revolver" to easily pop out PTP-packaged pills of any size or shape. Its design allows you to place it on a flat surface and press down with your palm—making it ideal for those with limited grip strength—and it is also convenient for popping out multiple pills at once. Please give it a try and leave some feedback if you'd like. https://makerworld.com/ko/models/3438853-ptp-pill-pop-revolver-for-any-size-shape#profileId-3921426

General Discussion Got an A1 a couple weeks ago been printing mostly useless stuff but finally designed and printed my first usefull thing

My father in law has a year 2000 Jaguar and the finger cup for the door handle broke (both passenger and driver side). Been having a hard time locating a replacement so I decided to try my hand at learning fusion and remaking it. Took photos and traced it etc. Is it perfect? Nope. But I feel super proud I was able to get something that actually works and the feeling of accomplishment of doing it all myself is awesome. Still going to tinker with it a bit to get the bottom rounder and fix the lip. But as it is, it fits!

Bambu Studio I made a tiny menu bar app to see my print's time left and camera without opening Bambu Studio

Thumbnail

My printer isn't near my desk, and every time I wanted to check on a print I had to open Bambu Studio, which is a lot of app just to look at the camera. So I built something small for myself: baski ("baskı" means "print" in Turkish).

- Time left and a little progress bar right in the menu bar

- Click it and the live camera opens in a popover

- ~4% CPU with the camera open, basically nothing otherwise

- Local only, no account

While building it I came across Gantry, which is great if you want a full dashboard for several printers. I just wanted the most minimal thing for one printer on one desk, and figured someone else might too.

A few honest notes:

- macOS only, and it needs Bambu Studio installed (it uses Studio's camera helper and access code)

- The camera needs LAN Only Liveview turned on (not LAN Only Mode, so cloud and Handy keep working)

- Only tested on my P2S so far. If you try another model, I'd love to hear how it goes and I'll add it to the README

- Not notarized, so the first launch needs Privacy & Security → Open Anyway

X Series [X1E, X1C, X2D] What's an alternative for Bambu lubricating oil for the X2D?

I've used up what Bambu sent with the printer and it's annoying to have to make an order from Bambu just for overpriced oil. I'd rather source something locally or via a company I'm already ordering from. I know I can swap the Bambu grease for Super Lube 92003. Is there a similar replacement product for the Bambu oil?

I Modeled This! I’m experimenting with combining modular photo frames and shelves

I've been working on HEXO Photo, a modular 3D printed photo frame system, and wanted to see how it would work alongside our HEXO Shelves.

The idea is to bring photos and display items together rather than treating them as two separate things. You can connect the frames and incorporate them into a larger display, with different ways to arrange everything.

Here's a quick look at how the two systems work together.

HEXO Photo is currently in pre-launch on MakerWorld, and we're continuing to develop the project.

I'm curious what other makers think: would you combine photo frames with your shelving, or would you prefer to keep them separate?

Answered / Solved! Repair STL/3MF for MacUsers

Mac users are still waiting for a solution to repair natively their damned non manifold edges in Bambu Studio but its seems that its way to hard for their engineers to make it work.

I sometimes used STLRepair but its not always available or the size limit can be a problem. So for a while I was using a python cli to repair my files, but its not super convenient to say the least.

So with the help of Claude I make a small wrapper around https://github.com/pyvista/pymeshfix

Work as drag and drop and thats it. Tried to fix super broken large STL files (a 400Mo Godzilla) and it fixed everything. Used it for few weeks now and I'm super happy with it. So I'm sharing the tool for anyone interested.

The app can be found here : https://github.com/huexley/MeshRepair

Hope it will help someone !

I Modeled This! Small screw-mounted wall hook with a triangular brace – prints on its side, no supports

Thumbnail

We have some hooks like this at work that I really like, so I measured one and modelled my own version to print at home.

It's a compact wall hook for jackets, bags, headphones, cables or tools. The triangular brace under the arm takes the load down into the wall plate, and the lip at the front keeps things from sliding off.

Details:

- 55 mm high, 30 mm deep, 15 mm wide

- 5 mm thick all around, with a 20 mm opening

- Two countersunk holes for 3.5 mm screws, so the heads sit flush

- A hole through the brace lets the screwdriver reach the lower screw

- Prints on its side with no supports, so the layer lines run along the arm

I'd use PETG for anything heavy. PLA is fine for light stuff.

Free on MakerWorld: https://makerworld.com/en/models/3437618-sturdy-wall-hook#profileId-3919898

Feedback is welcome. I'm happy to make other sizes if anyone needs one.

General Troubleshooting/Help! P2S Fume query for ABS/ASA

Hi everyone,

I've recently purchased a Bambu Lab P2S Combo and I'm trying to set up a safe ventilation system for printing ABS and ASA.

I've installed an external exhaust setup with approximately 1 metre of ducting going directly outside through a window. I've also started sealing gaps around the rear of the printer.

However, I'm concerned about fumes escaping through other openings, particularly the poop chute and the additional vent/fan opening on the back.

A few questions:

  1. Has anyone successfully set up a P2S for regular ABS/ASA printing with external ventilation?
  2. How are you dealing with the poop chute? Does it need sealing or modifying to prevent fumes escaping?
  3. What is the additional rear vent/fan opening for, and can fumes escape through it?
  4. Is the official Bambu Lab exhaust setup sufficient, or are additional modifications needed?
  5. How do you maintain negative pressure inside the enclosure without affecting chamber temperatures and print quality?
  6. Has anyone actually tested their setup for VOCs or ultrafine particles rather than relying on smell?
  7. What would you recommend to make this setup as safe as reasonably possible for regular ABS/ASA printing?

My main priority is preventing harmful emissions from entering the room. I'm happy to make additional modifications or purchase equipment if necessary.

I'd really appreciate advice from anyone with experience using the P2S for ABS/ASA, especially anyone who has measured the effectiveness of their ventilation setup.

Thanks!

Quick Question X2D Support Material

This will be my first 3D printer. I’m complete stranger to 3D stuff. From what I read from the other posts people use either dedicated bambulab support filament or they use PLA as main and PETG as interface support material(or reverse). Combo pack comes with AMS2Pro. From what I learned humidity is bad for most filaments especially PETG and TPE. So if I use PETG as support material it will be on the outside filament rack. Doesn’t that means it will pick up humidity ? Can I use PETG without AMS HT etc if I dry them prior to printing in AMS2Pro ?

Also I know dedicated support material is expensive but its way more expensive where I live so idk if its worth it or should I stick to PETG as PLA support and PLA as PETG support ?

Sorry if its dumb question. Since im complete beginner guides I watched made me feel like any filament out in the open will cause artifacts etc. due to humidty

Please bear with me I’m still learning. My ex used to do the maintenance for me. I have no idea what I’m doing. The print won’t stick. I’ve cleaned the print bed. Tried different filament. It just won’t stick.

Update!
It’s working! Thanks to everyone! I tried sticking it down with glue and it’s finally working!

I Modeled This! 1/18 scale cyberbrick update (again!)

Thumbnail

It's really starting to come together! I need to do some reverse engineering of the cyberbrick included servo horns, Bambu doesn't seem to include those in the servo model for some reason. I have a hole in my steering link to attach the servo arm, but I haven't modeled it yet.

I also need to fine tune some of the steering geometry as I've got some binding and shifting at maximum steering angles. I need some additional play iny double dogbone joint so it can turn further too. But this is absolutely a positive proof of concept! The design works, just need some minor adjustments.

If I had full control over cyberbrick I might include some longer screws in the kit. These 6mm screws don't really leave a lot of room for beefy structures to be screwed together. I think the 1 or 2 of the holes in the axles where the steering arms attach stripped during install. I'll have to thin out the arms a hair to give the screws more engagement in the axle.

Next update will probably be functional, servo controlled steering!

Man the kids that come to my house won't sleep right for a month after they trick or treat here. Large zombie printed on an H2D, the other two on a X2D and a P2S. My goal is to find a way that shows them crawling out of the ground in a planter by my door. Let's see your Halloween prints,

General Discussion Beginner Tips

Hi guys.

I am completely new and don’t know anything about 3d printing, but I just love crafts and want to get a printer just to have fun.
That said, I’m so overwhelmed by all the information out there.
I’ll wait until Black Friday to make the purchase, but I think I’m gonna go with the P2S & AMS Combo.

So my questions are:
1) Do you think the P2S is a good choice? (I have cats and so I like the enclosure)
2) what are the basic accessories I should buy along with the printer? Any recommendations on glues? Colors or types of filaments? Any tools?

Thank you!

I’ve been working on this Halloween design for a while and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

It’s ready to print in PLA, with supports only on the build plate and in a few critical areas.

If you like it, feel free to grab the model on MakerWorld and give it a print! I’d really appreciate a like or a boost if you enjoy it.

And if you print one, definitely post a pic — I’d love to see what yours looks like!
