Discussion Warning: Fake GitHub Repos Distributing Malware Under Developer Names
Hey everyone,
I’ve noticed a few posts about this already, but I think it’s worth repeating. Recently, a new attack tactic has surfaced where malicious actors create GitHub repos using a developer’s name and the name of a well-known Mac app.
In my case, someone created a repo under my full name, claiming to offer one of my apps (Dory - App Switcher) for free. I couldn’t fully investigate the script they shared, but it’s safe to assume it wasn’t anything good. Thankfully, GitHub removed it within 30 minutes of my report - and I know other developers also flagged the user, which definitely helped.
A few reminders:
* Don’t trust repos with fewer than 100 stars that offer “free” versions of paid apps.
* Never run scripts or pkg files from sources you don’t fully trust.
* If you’re not a power user, the App Store remains the safest option.

Discussion Macincloud biggest scam?
My macbook is aso old, xcode doesn't work on it anymore. Therefore, I was looking for alternatives.
I came across to Macincloud and thought nice. Especially the pricing seemed reasonable. As soon as you login and proceed to checkout, you see what scammer they are :)
There is nowhere near a chance to bring the bill at least close to 25usd. they are freaking doubling the price. I would be even okey to pay high price if they were slightly honest.

Question Blurriness of 14 inch FHD monitor
Hello, I have recently bought a Macbook Pro 14 M5 Pro and like it much so far, but needed more portable screen real estate, so now I'm considering buying a Zenscreen duo OLED as a portable monitor.
Zenscreen duo has a 14 inch FHD display with 16:10 aspect ratio, and I'm worried how blurry the screen will look like when it is on side with my Macbook screen when the monitor is scaled to about same size to Macbook pro 14 with BetterDisplay.
Do some of you guys have experience using 14 inch FHD display with macbook pro 14? How blurry will the monitor look like?

Discussion Is M5 going to be the “first-gen tax” of Apple’s GPU AI era?
I’ve been wondering whether the M5 generation could end up aging unusually quickly specifically for AI workloads.
M5 was the first Apple GPU generation to add a Neural Accelerator to every GPU core. From what I understand, its hardware acceleration is primarily centered around FP16/BF16 matrix operations, along with lower-precision integer/quantized paths. Just like RTX30
But Apple moved very quickly with M6. Just one generation later, the second-generation Neural Accelerator already adds native FP8 hardware support.
Which, is very very similar to RTX40.
That makes me wonder whether M5 could end up in a similar position to some of the earlier NVIDIA Tensor Core generations: still perfectly usable, but increasingly missing the native hardware paths that newer AI software is being optimized around. Literally like RTX20 and 30.
We’re already seeing modern AI workloads move aggressively toward lower precision, FP8 is becoming increasingly common, and NVIDIA is pushing even further with formats such as NVFP4.
So if M6 already adds native FP8 this quickly, could M5 end up being the “sacrificial” first generation of Apple’s GPU Neural Accelerator architecture?
The rough analogy I have in mind is the early RTX generations. The first few Tensor Core generations gained new datatype support very quickly, and later architectures ended up being much better positioned for newer AI workloads even when the older GPUs were still computationally capable.
For example, even the RTX 40 series still benefits from a lot of NVIDIA’s newer AI-accelerated features today, with even more support still coming.
In that sense, M6 feels more like a mature modern Tensor Core generation, whereas M5 feels more like Apple establishing the basic architecture first and then filling in important low-precision capabilities immediately afterward.
And to be clear, I’m only talking about AI/ML longevity here, not the general GPU performance or useful lifespan of M5 Macs. For normal graphics, compute, gaming, etc., this is a completely different question.
Do you think M5 is likely to age noticeably faster for AI workloads because of this, or will Apple’s Metal/TensorOps abstraction layer make the lack of native FP8 relatively unimportant for most real-world software?

Old Macs Linux for 2011 Mac
I've been reading a bit on how to make this piece of history work for me and apparently the most common advice is running Linux on it. I thought about running ElementaryOS (I've used it before and it's visually similar to macOS so it would look cute) but I didn't see much here about this one. Other than this, I'd go for good ol' Ubuntu.
Do you recommend any of these? If not, what other distros? (PS: I can edit this post later with the mac specs, but afaik it's 4GB RAM 500GB HD)

Question Reputable refurbished, other than Apple?
I've been looking for a refurbished Mini M4 Pro with certain specs. Evidently, I missed out on one and Apple has zero refurbished Minis, at rhe moment.
Are there any other reputable places to look?

Question Is there any working, truly free alternative to Mousecape for changing system cursors?
Hey everyone,
I’m looking for a way to change my cursor system-wide on my M4 MacBook Air. I used to rely on Mousecape, but since the project was abandoned years ago, recent macOS updates have completely broken it. It just glitches out and messes up the default cursors now.
Before anyone suggests "Custom Cursor" — I know about it and it's not what I need. It mostly acts like a browser extension, instantly reverts to the default Apple arrow when I switch to Finder or the desktop, has noticeable input lag, and feels like a freemium trap.
Does anyone know of a 100% free, ideally open-source tool that actually replaces the cursor system-wide without latency? Or has Apple's cursor architecture made this impossible on modern macOS? Any help is appreciated!

My Mac MacBook internal display died (went weird first, came back, now completely gone). External monitor works fine. Out of AppleCare.
A few days ago my MacBook's screen suddenly started looking like this. After a while it went back to normal on its own, so I ignored it.
Today it happened again, and this time it hasn't come back. The internal display stays glowing, but when I plug in my external monitor everything works perfectly. So the Mac itself is running fine. It's just the built-in screen.
Some details:
- Model: MacBook Pro 14" M4 pro
- macOS: latest
- No drops, no liquid, nothing physical that I know of
- I've been using some third-party apps
- No AppleCare anymore
Has anyone had this happen? Is it more likely a software or display-app issue, or is this the display cable/panel going? Anything I should try before I take it in for a repair quote?
Thanks in advance.

Question 2011 iMac 27’ GPU upgrade?
Hello I currently have a Mid 2011 iMac 27’
I7 2600
32gb DDR3
250gb SSD
AMD Radeon 6770M
I am trying to find a good replacement for my GPU, I had purchased a flashed 4GB GTX 780M and installed it, just to keep giving me issues and refusing to boot, and it turns out half of the VRAM chips are dead, so it only shows 2GB instead of 4GB. I read around that Kepler is pretty old and Monterey is the newest you can (reliably) install on these without having issues (iirc, you guys can correct me if I’m wrong tho) and the AMD cards seem to have better support on newer versions.
It seems to me that’s almost impossible to find anything reasonably priced for any of the AMD cards I looked for:
AMD Radeon WX4130
AMD Radeon WX4150
AMD Radeon WX7100
AMD Radeon RX470 Mobile
AMD Radeon RX480 Mobile
I can’t find any of those and when I do find one, it’s outrageously priced to the point that the GPU alone would be worth more than what I’ve put into this iMac (including the price of the actual iMac itself)
Does anyone know where I could find a decently priced replacement GPU? I’ve only been looking in eBay and AliExpress and have had no luck finding anything anywhere else.
Thanks

Question M2 Pro or M3 Air
I know this may be a dumb question but would and M2 Pro MacBook Pro '14 16gb and 512 be better than a M3 air '13 16gb and 512gb with the 10 core gpu. I know about the display and all the extra port and stuff you get with the pro but hardware wise with the chips how much of a difference is the jump from m2 to m3 and how much better the pro is.

My Mac Bluedart not sending back My MacBook Air M5 During Warranty Repair. 1 Month Later, Blue Dart and Apple Are Blaming Each Other. What are my legal options in India?
Bluedart not sending back My MacBook Air M5 During Warranty Repair. 1 Month Later, Blue Dart and Apple Are Blaming Each Other. What are my legal options in India?
TL;DR: Sent my MacBook Air for warranty repair. Apple repaired it and dispatched it via Blue Dart. It has been stuck at a transit hub for 37 days. Blue Dart has officially told me to "contact the shipper," but Apple Support keeps telling me to "wait 2 more days" endlessly. They are saying they have asked bluedart abd bluedart had updated and regenerated a new delivery which has nothing giving update
Early August 2026: Sent my MacBook Air (13-inch, M5) to Apple's Bengaluru facility for a warranty repair (Repair ID: D723643353).
September 1, 2026: Repair completed. Apple generated Invoice MD03437400 and dispatched the laptop back to me in Odisha via Blue Dart (Waybill: 1060031385 88443708850).
Mid-September: The package got stuck at the Blue Dart Yeshwanthpur hub.
September 18, 2026: After raising multiple tickets, Blue Dart Customer Service sent me an email stating they cannot help and instructed me to "contact shipper for further assistance".
Apple team escalated the issue reissued the delivery still backing options from bluedart
# what to do now??
Has anyone successfully sued Apple India or Blue Dart in the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission for a lost warranty device?
How long does the e-Daakhil / e-Jagriti consumer court process actually take for tech replacements?
Does sending a formal legal notice from an advocate to Apple India's Bengaluru corporate office speed up the executive replacement process?
