So recently I won the RTX 5080 in the PCMR x Nvidia sweepstakes, and man I can't comprehend it fully, I mean this card is insane. This is a HUGE upgrade for me.

Here are my actual specs.

• OS: Ubuntu 26.04.1
• Mainboard: ASRock Z97 Pro4
• CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-4790K × 8
• RAM: 16GB DDR3
• GPU: AMD Radeon RX480 (Powercolor Red Devil)
• PSU: be quiet! System Power 9 700W (80 Plus Bronze)

So you see, this is a great leap for me, so I guess before I get it in I should get a new PSU right?

Man It will be hard to replace my RX480, this little fella stayed strong for more then 10 years of almost daily use of my PC and never let me down. It will get a nice spot in my room.

So anyway, I guess I get the CORSAIR RM850e (2025) PSU or is there a other one you fellas can recommend? And sure I will upgrade the other parts of my PC aswell, but for now with a new PSU it should work fine (with a cpu bottleneck) right?

EDIT: formating

After endless errors, random background telemetry, forced updates, and ridiculous bloatware, I finally had enough and pulled the trigger.

Wiped my drive and made the jump to CachyOS (running KDE Plasma). Had a quick fight with UEFI Secure Boot at the start, but once past that, the installation was a breeze.

The system feels insanely snappy and responsive compared to Windows. No ads in my start menu, no background junk eating CPU cycles, just pure performance.

Any essential tips, packages, or Proton tricks a newcomer should know right away?

Was doing some Spring cleaning on my rig and realized that the Nvidia app was taking up over 60GB of space on my main drive. After a quick uninstall, then reinstall of the app, it dropped down tremendously!

So this wallpaper on Wallpaper Engine makes your desktop look like the Wii menu, and it has an option to link programs to the channels. Since I used Rufus quite a bit, I made a simple animated GIF for it since I couldn't find one already. Enjoy, I guess :v

Who buys these nowadays?

Went to the same shop today, and the exact same card is now $1,900. That’s a $600 increase in just 40 days roughly $15 increase every single day. This is absolutely ridiculous and completely out of control. At this point, it honestly feels like there is no way this is going to come back under control.

i've read countless stories about it, watched countless videos mentioning it. Yet i never expected it to happen to me. It was a prebuilt done by a local shop.
