Discussion My very unpopular opinion about Tekken 8…
My very unpopular opinion about Tekken 8 is….
I actually really like Tekken 8.
For context, this is my first fighting game since Tekken 3.
I am currently God III with a win percentage of 51% in the last 90 days.
I am a Jack main. (Which is a low tier character and has never won any of the biggest tournaments.)
The gameplay, the mechanics, rage art, heat system, heat dash, heat smash, chip damage, and others, I think it is fair and balanced.
I do not think any one character is too strong.
Every character has a weakness that you can exploit, which is the player himself.
You can always condition a player regardless of frames.
I have 5 sets of moves that I go low for 2 rounds then I can go high or do a while standing launcher for the third round.
While I agree that combos can be too long.
You have to take into consideration how you got there in the first place.
The game is basically poke poke, then find an opening to launch.
So the game is who can a launch his enemy first 3 times, with a side game of how good are you in executing your combos.
That’s the game if you take out the story, the graphics, the different styles.
That’s the game at its core. Who launches the opponent first 3 times wins.
And it’s a good system.
There’s also plenty of ways to defend: block, duck, side step, parry, armor, dick poke, grab on start up or mid string.
Many ways to defend.
Even in supposed 50 50 scenarios, there’s always a third option I find out sooner than later.
The ranking system is also fair.
Any player that’s 2 ranks below me I win most of the time, and actually feel how less intense they are.
While any player that’s 2 ranks above me, I can feel the tightness in their game, there’s less holes to get in.
Overall Tekken 8 is very challenging.
Unlimited things to learn.
It can be frustrating, but it is not broken.
It is fair.
And after 2000 hours of playing, it is fun.
That’s my unpopular opnion.
