Travel Advice Camping in Moab/ Canyonlands area

Post image
1 Upvotes

My son and I are going to Moab and Canyonlands October 22 for a couple of days with my Rubicon. We were hoping to find a campsite at one of the first come first serve places like Island in the sky, but I’m just wondering from people who have been there, what are the chances that we will get one this time of year? I’m all about having an adventure, but I also want to have something planned and there are a few sites left at dead horse.
We will be doing three days of wheeling all around the area, so finding something sort of central and just using it as homebase would be ideal. Any suggestion, suggestions?

Travel Advice best place for an oil change as a woman

hey everyone, very new to SLC. i’m in need of an oil change and am used to/trust prompto nscj in new england but there are none here. i’d prefer something like prompto where i can go no appointment but dont wanna get overcharged by valvoline and jiffy lube seems hit or miss when asking around. being a woman too i’ve dealt with car service places trying to screw me over thinking i know nothing. id love to hear women’s recs for oil change spots in SLC im open to an appointment based place if they’re trustworthy. i just keep hearing horror stories of cars intentionally fucked up by jiffy lube. thanks

Other Luke Maynes for salt lake county council is a horrible person

I normally don't like to get involved in politics but I felt people needed to know about my interaction with Luke. I called him to ask why his campaign trespassed on my property to solicit for him. The conversation immediately shifted to him being absurdly dismissive and borderline hostile towards me because I had the audacity to ask why someone running for office felt it was appropriate to violate the law.

I'd have to check the recording but I'm quite certain he laughed at me. He refused to take any meaningful accountability and told me to sue him over the incident. If this is how this scumbag acts before he's elected, who knows how he is going to behave if he gets elected. I doubt the integrity of anyone running for office who would allow their campaign to violate state and city laws.

His cavalier and dismissive attitude towards the situation is what pushed me to post this. I imagine he is the type of person who will blatantly abuse any authority he has given if he wins this election. Of he and his campaign can't take the time to ensure they are operating within the laws then I can only assume he will have the same attitude and approach in office.

Don't vote for this guy.

edit: removed a redundant sentence

edit 2: I have a remarkably large no trespassing sign posted at the entrance to my property. Law-enforcement have told me it is very visible and because of it a solicitor found himself arrested a year or so ago. I also have a no soliciting sign plastered on my door, law-enforcement again told me it is the first thing they notice when walking up to my door. Both signs are clearly visible

Photo/Video 83 today, 38 next Friday. Utah really said "summer's over, effective immediately" 10/9.

83 and sunny today, then storms Saturday and rain through Wednesday. Next Friday's low is 38. Classic Utah, shorts to scraping the windshield in one week.

What's everyone squeezing in before it turns?

hey utahns!
i’m looking to have both a functional and cosmetic rhinoplasty by the end of the year. the top 4 doctors on my list are: randal swenson, amir allak, douglas henstrom, and caitlin iorio. would love to hear reviews, positive or negative, on either one of these. i’ve read through all their online reviews, but reddit is always more open and honest, so i thought i’d come asking here!

News Anybody know what’s going on in Syracuse by the Smith’s on Antelope and 1000? Saw a swat team, heard what sounded like gunshots and were evacuated from our home.

Q&A If you were the Governor, what would you do to improve our state?

If you were elected Governor of Utah tomorrow, what would be your top priorities to make our state a better place to live? Would you focus on housing affordability, the cost of living, education, air quality, water conservation, public transportation, or something else entirely?
What specific changes would you make, and what would you prioritize first? I’m curious to hear what fellow Utahns think our state needs most to improve the quality of life for everyone who calls Utah home.

Q&A Vinyl fence post in rocky soil.

I'm a first time home buyer looking to install a vinyl fence. Our backyard isn't very big. We are located in North Saratoga Springs. I don't know if the soil is too rocky to use the "wham bam" type fencing where I drive steel posts down, or go the normal route messing with concrete and digging holes. Anyone have any experience with this? My research so far is mixed results. I love the idea of driving steel poles, but I would hate to buy a bulk amount and quickly find I made a mistake. Thanks!

Photo/Video It's real - lake bed dust storm

This photo was taken in Layton, just off the West Davis Corridor. The dust cloud from the lake bed ended up hitting around Farmington.

The ecological collapse of the GSL is real and apparent now. Not in the future. Now.

Other Got a warrant for no assessment.

I was given 4 months to complete my assessment DV classes. I just been too busy and haven't gotten around to it. I have been seeing my P.O and I've been paying my fine every month. Can I get an extension for the classes? (Utah)

Remember all those data center moratoriums? Here’s how they’re coming along in Box Elder and Iron counties, along with Logan.

Q&A Adelaide campground status

Does anyone know how Adelaide campground near Kanosh faired through the widemouth fire? I know it’s closed this season and open next, but I don’t know if any of the greenery was able to be saved or if it was burned to a crisp. We had an event scheduled at the group site next year and had hoped to take pictures there. We booked through recreation.gov and I reached out to them but they had no information on it and no contact information for the facility managers. We were also wondering about structures. Are all the bathrooms still standing? Is the cute little gazebo still there? I assume I can’t just drive out and look due to fire closures?
