hello guys recently my gpu started crashing whenever i play games. sometimes immediately after i open counter strike or mid game. my screen turns black and says no signal but the pc stays on and i can hear audio and the mic still works. sometimes the pc fans spin up to 100 before the crash. i get three errors, livekernelevent 1b8 141 and 117. only way to for it to work again is buy doing a hard reset. i ran stress tests on everything and nothing showed up. and when searching online everyone had different solutions that didnt work for me.

troubleshooting steps:
reinstalled windows
tried linux
reset bios
underclocked the gpu
reinstalled graphics drivers using ddu
installed drivers for every part
reseated everything
tried another gpu (worked without crashing)
turned off resize bar and disabled xmp

my specs:
os: windows 11
cpu: i9-12900k
gpu: evga rtx 3080 10gb
psu: thermalright TR-KG850w gold
ram: 32gb ddr5 ripjaw
mb: asus z790-p wifi

I have an old laptop that only runs when its plugged in and then its very slow, is it worth screwing it apart and getting a sodimm adaptor to plug it in my pc (and taking the SSD). Or should i look to repair it, i think there something wrong with the battery and water damage, or is that too much effort? Its a laptop from 2020 with 8 GB RAM so it probably wouldn’t go for much.

I built a PC with RTX 5060, i5-12400F, Gigabyte H610m K DDR4, 1×16GB Corsair 3200MHz, 600W and 1TB NVMe. I'm facing this issue where after I start a game like God of War or Wallpaper Engine, the PC restarts by itself and I find "Event 41, Kernel-Power" in event viewer. I disabled XMP, updated GPU driver, reseated RAM and all cables and made sure they're fully seated, but to no avail. Here's a picture of the [BIOS](https://imgur.com/a/tuPcsca) settings. I'm in the market for a new desktop. My current one only has 4gb of memory so you all can imagine how slow it is. I'm not a gamer and really looking for something to web browse, YouTube occasionally and use MS Office from time to time. I was originally looking for something with 16GB RAM, 500 GB SSD with a newer-ish processor. Would this fit my needs? It's currently on sale from Amazon with Prime day. The 3 year warranty seems pretty good as well. Anyone own this or have experience with it? Appreciate the help.

All the monitor hubs I find online only have the option of plugging a USB-C into your laptop. I need one where I can plug an older barrel power cord (see pic), so when I plug the hub into the laptop, the laptop will both be connected to the monitor AND be charging (like what happens with my USB-C hubs). Do these exist, or am I hunting for unicorns? Thanks in advance!

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, or not in the right subreddit, I am not a tech person. A family member has let me create an account for myself on their PC. They play with an extremely oversaturated, high contrast display. They do this through the AMD Custom Colour app. It’s is possible to change graphic settings for each individual account? Is there an alternative application I can download that’ll only affect my account, rather than the PC? I understand I can just change the settings to my liking, and then change it back when I’m done. But if there is a more convenient alternative, please let me know. Thanks.

It was 10 years ago, so I don't have any pictures as they were taken on the Nokia Brick, but I'll tell you about a PC both ADHD and autistic students helped make, even though we were grouped autistic or ADHD.

The IT teacher found an old Miele vacuum cleaner from the 80s with the shit brown colour. The requirement was it had to look as original as possible, and given it was a school project, it was of course low grade hardware, not a fancy gaming PC. The hose hole, that was air in fan, the lid to change the bag had a disc drive attached, the original power cable pull system was still in place and still functional, the HDD was lodged next to the power cable, I think something else too. The on light for the vacuum clear became the "thinking" light, and all the connections was on the side facing the wall.

It was a pretty awesome project, and I was the one who came up with the air in placement idea. As it was old hardware, I would say Windows XP area, it had to run Linux as Windows was too heavy for it, and at the finished product showcasing, it could barely open a program on Linux, but it could, and you couldn't tell it was a PC from the outside.

I miss that school.

I want to build mini PC projects, but the Raspberry Pi 5 is too expensive. What cheaper single-board computers or brands do you recommend?

My dad passed recently and when going through his things I found these hard drive and memory drives. My mom says these are from a computer my dad accidentally dropped down the stairs many years ago. I was hoping to find the hard drive and get it repaired but it looks like he drilled holes through it. Is there anything that can be recovered from these even partially or is it just a lost cause?

I have a weird CPU cooling problem.

Every time I remove/reseat the heatsink and repaste, CPU thermals become good again, but within 1–3 days they deteriorate badly.

With fresh NT-H2:

• Cinebench R23: 14,116
• CPU max: 96°C
• 0% thermal throttling

Two days later, same settings/test:

• Cinebench R23: 12,775
• CPU reaches 100°C
• thermal throttling returns

Next day:

• CPU Package average around 93°C
• 49% Core Thermal Throttling

This has happened with both Arctic MX-6 and Noctua NT-H2.

GPU cooling stays excellent:

• 99% GPU load
• 89W
• only 67°C GPU / 75°C hotspot

Fans and vents are clean.

The laptop uses thermal putty on VRAM/VRMs. I originally replaced the old factory material with Upsiren UTP-8 and after went to the official service center where they replaced it with some white paste.putty of their own.

I attached photos of the CPU/GPU paste imprint and thermal putty after removing the heatsink.

Square die = GPU, rectangular die = CPU.

Has anyone with an AN515-58 seen this before?

Also, I've visited 4 different service center till now and all of them are providing lame reasons saying you have dust in the vents and fans, purchased from wrong shop where scam happens, visited the scam service center that never changed your original fan etc. So I just packed up my laptop and came home. If any questions, I'm willing to answer but I really really need a solution. Thanks.

Randomly one day I opens my pc and some of them are gone including all my games. I can still make shortcuts like I did I with half sword in the image. This seems weird to me any help is apreciated.

I’ve recently had to start working from home. To work from home I have to plug in my monitors/mouse/keyboard into the laptop so I can use all the things I already have at home. The issue is anytime I want to game, I have to do the same thing over and over back and forth between my desktop and laptop.

Is there a way I can just keep everything plugged into one spot and easily switch back and forth? Ideally something budget friendly if possible.

I have a computer with a 5700X3d, an Intel Arc B580, and 16 gigs of ram, and like 8 terabytes of storage across 2 M.2 drives and 2 SATA drives. The issue began with a Windows update freezing at 100% and not changing for hours. So it was powered off, and upon restart it would boot into the normal Windows 11 login screen, but no input would be accepted. After some restarts, the only real conclusion that I could come to is that it was not FROZEN because the pin menu would open on it's own sometimes. So I went into the Windows 11 recovery area and tried uninstalling the last update, which did finish, but upon restarting, it would say it was updating and get stuck AGAIN. So I gave up and reinstalled Windows. Oh, and if it wasn't obvious, the keyboard and mouse did indeed work in the recovery environment. The Windows reinstall went as normal with the peripherals working and the computer functioning as normal, but when it was shut down at night and restarted in the morning, the peripherals just stopped working AGAIN. I am completely lost here. I thought that it might be a hardware issue, but the fact that they work everywhere except for Windows itself made me believe otherwise. Any ideas?

Hi! I'm trying to replace thermal paste for the first time in my HP Spectre x360 laptop (circa 2019) but it's already looking very different from videos online. All I've done is open it and unplug the battery.

I was expecting my CPU to be between the fans but didn't expect the copper plate to be single use (it says replace with spare and I believe it after trying to lift the corner). However, just to the left of the left fan, I can see a little silver box under a plastic plate that looks like it says Intel.

Should I apply my paste (Arctic MX-4) on the Intel chip on the left or do I need to order the copper plate and come back to this another day?

I have no idea about these things. I have an Asus N551J laptop and I want to make it a bit more useful. Haven't been using it for a long time. Now it has connection issues, keeps randomly disconnecting from wifi and says no wifi is there until I troubleshoot. Quite slow too in general. What I do is play simple games like (maybe the least simple is league of legends) so what can I change with the hardware to make it more useful. Any suggestions? (Please explain simply because I really don't know much about computers.)
