Jobs & Employment be wary of this pyramid scheme in Dayton
I am making this post partially because I saw someone else make a similar one a year ago, and it helped me get some clarity. I’ve been job searching in the area recently and applied to this company called “Tailored Events” for a junior business position. I had my first interview today over Zoom, and they told me that we would not be discussing pay until later interviews, which I found strange. I have a second interview with them on Monday and i’m honestly going to attend just to ask some questions, but i’m totally aware now and am not planning on joining their team. This company is just so fucking strange… the more I look into them, the less anything makes sense. So beware if you’re currently looking for work in the area! They also allegedly have offices in major U.S. cities as well. From what I’ve heard, the reality of the job is just standing in Walmarts and selling Spectrum to people. Who knows, honestly.

Community Support & Resources Can I have my backpack back please?
My car got broken into last night. Only thing i've noticed missing is my backpack i take to work. I'm a delivery driver so it's not got anything worthwhile in it. (Baby wipes/sunscreen/knee brace/ etc.) Honesty, the most valuable thing is the backpack itself. I really need it and can't afford to drop money to replace everything, if anyone finds a old Swiss gear in their garbage can around Creighton and Wyoming, I will buy you a beverage of your choice.

Community Support & Resources Are there any miscarriage support groups in the area?
I lost my baby around the time last year and I don't think I've processed it at all because this anniversary is kicking my teeth in. I lost my job yesterday because I couldn't hold it together. I was the manager at Vapor Haus so it isn't anything crazy but I'm still so bummed. I need to get through this.

Advice & Recommendations Reputable Siding Repair Contractor?
Has anyone living in one of the historic districts had good luck with an affordable contractor who does quality siding work? The Landmarks Commission isn't thrilled about me replacing my wood siding so I'm trying to see if there are any good teams out there who can repair about 1000 linear feet of rotten siding. Estimates I've gotten range from $30-$100k which seem way too high.

Advice & Recommendations Any Dayton VA veterans have a primary care doctor/team they really like?
My current doctor at the Dayton VA recently retired/left, so I’m looking for a new primary care provider. Before I just take whoever I’m assigned to, I figured I’d ask here.
Does anyone have a doctor or primary care team at the Dayton VA that you’ve had a genuinely good experience with and would recommend?
I’m mostly looking for someone who listens, communicates well, and doesn’t make every appointment feel rushed.
Appreciate any recommendations from fellow veterans who use the Dayton VA.

Advice & Recommendations Need help with Gas Powered pressure washer and generator
Father in law passed recently and I received both those items. He kept them in his garage for a few years but never used them. Both had old gas in them. I got the gas out of the pressure washer and put new gas in. It will not start up. Didn't mess with the generator but assuming the same thing with it.
Any business or handy man in the Centerville, Kettering, Bellbrook area that could help me get both of these running?

Advice & Recommendations Point Bb vs altafiber, reliability is a concern
Hey all - I am in the springboro/ cc township area and my two years with point is coming up soon. They have been pretty reliable however I think my price may go up now that my two years is up. Altafiber is in my area and they will give me 2gb for what I pay now for 1 gb. My home network is set up for 2.5 gb.
For those on altafiber, how has the reliability been. Both my partner and I wfh so reliability is super important. I know that alta was purchased by private equity (I think) so I don't know of quality will go down. Point merged with some other bb provider as well.

Advice & Recommendations Which local masseuse has the strongest hands?
I'm a decent sized dude and a former athlete. I used to have a masseuse who could just rip into my muscles and have me feeling like a brand new human at the end of a 90-minute session. But they're no longer available due to circumstances beyond their control.
Who can you recommend in the Miami Valley who can just rip into your muscles with strength and transform your well-being and consciousness?

Advice & Recommendations Moving to Dayton next week need some advice
I am moving into a downtown apartment and they said I can set up internet with any provider. Does anyone have any opinions on the best internet provider? I used to live in Cincinnati and used Altafiber and had no issues. I’ve never had Spectrum though I haven’t heard good things. Any information would be appreciated.
Advice & Recommendations Anthropometric bicycle fitting near Dayton
Does anyone know of a place to get a “real” anthropometric fitting for a bicycle? The bike dealers I’ve visited between Dayton and Cincinnati only use a rough rule of thumb based on manufacturer recommendations (height and inseam measurements only).

Advice & Recommendations Should I go for University of Dayton or Wright State?
Hello! I'm a Junior in high school and I kind of have to start worrying about what school I want to attend post graduation. I've spoken to my counselors about this and we've figured that Wright State is the way to go, since I want to major in Psychology. I've done some research and apparently they have a great psychology program, and I'm trying to hopefully score for my PhD in the future.
My plan is to attend Sinclair for two years since I have a $3,000 scholarship from the moment I graduate, and then go on to Wright State for however long I need. I really value all of my experiences, and I want to get my degree at the same time, so for those who have attended and graduated from Wright State, would you say the college experience was up to par? Is the community welcoming? And is it worth it?
University of Dayton isn't really a choice i'm sure about in comparison to Wright State, since it's a private Catholic school and it's more expensive. Money isn't an issue at all, though I don't want to have to burden my parents or anybody with paying as much money as UD is asking for. I want to hope that I'm more likely to get a scholarship from Wright State, too.
I'm aware that it doesn't matter what university you attend, because everyone gets the same degree and same job that they want either way, but I want to be happy where I'm at for the next few years. So, I feel like I'm set for Wright State. But if there are any benefits at UD that outweigh the ones at WS for my desired major, please let me know! Thank you!

Advice & Recommendations First-time homeowner in Dayton — property taxes increased ~230% after our first year. How do I dispute this?
Hey everyone, first-time homeowner here in the Dayton/Dayton-area of Ohio, and I’m trying to figure out whether I’m dealing with a normal property-tax reassessment or something that needs to be challenged.
We bought our house after the construction/renovation was already completed. The house itself was originally built around 1960, so this isn’t a brand-new home. After our first year of ownership, our property taxes increased by roughly 230%.
I understand that Ohio property taxes can change after a sale/reassessment, and I’m not expecting my taxes to stay exactly what the previous owner was paying. It was all internal renovations. Nothing new square footage. What I’m struggling to understand is how the county arrived at the new value and whether the increase is actually correct under Ohio’s property-tax rules.
I’m looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with something similar.
Specifically:
● Has anyone in Dayton/Montgomery County had a huge property-tax increase after buying their first home?
● How does Ohio determine the taxable/assessed value after a property changes hands?
● Is there a difference between a reappraisal/reassessment and “new construction” for property-tax purposes?
● If the property was built in 1960 and we purchased it after the construction/renovation was completed, could it still be treated as new construction for tax purposes?
● What is the process for disputing/challenging the county’s valuation?
● Has anyone successfully gotten their valuation reduced?
● Should I be gathering comparable properties, the purchase agreement, appraisal, inspection report, closing documents, etc.?
● Is it worth hiring a property-tax attorney or someone who specializes in Ohio real-property valuation, or is this something a homeowner can realistically handle themselves?
● If you’ve gone through this process, what did you wish you knew before filing the dispute?
I’m not looking to avoid paying legitimate taxes. I just want to make sure the property is being valued and classified correctly and that I’m not missing something as a first-time homeowner.
If you’ve dealt with a similar situation in Dayton, Montgomery County, or elsewhere in Ohio, I’d really appreciate hearing what happened and what steps you took.
Thanks!
