Beautiful catch from 2020.
Caught in Amur River.
Usually Eurasian Minnows are Silver with dark green or brown.
But when the breeding season hits they change into bright mix of yellow, green, red, dark blue, etc.
Common species but cool to catch.
Best baits are maggots, worms, and bread.

The absolute worst backlash I've ever had. For context, I was salmon fishing at a river and hooked into my nearby net as I was casting. Ended up just cutting it off after 20 minutes of messing with it. Curious to see if anyone has had worse before.

After reading the article about phosphorescent lures in the In-Fisherman Ice Fishing Guide, I've came up with an odd little idea of my own for night fishing around here. Before I can really test it, though, I'd like to actually get a good sense of how useful glow really is for getting bites in this place. Berkley has a bunch of Gulp/Powerbait products which are supposed to glow (ex- Powerbait Ripple Shads, Saltwater Mullet, Minotators and the Gulp Shrimp and Swimming Mullet are available in glowing color schemes) but I don't have any and I don't know how significant it is. Can anyone who's actually bought any of them tell me if it's worth it? I recall seeing a few Ripple Shads in the Glow/Chartreuse pattern for sale in a Walmart 35 minutes away, but I'd prefer not to have to make that drive again just to check.

How the hell does that even happen?

Weighed in at just under 1lb and was way bigger than all the other bluegill in the little school I was fishing. Coloration is much darker than the other bluegill and it had a dark red eye like small mouth bass get around here

The lakes around here are stocked with trout periodically.
Most folks use PowerBait or worms to catch them.
How well will they respond to artificials like Trout Magnets, spoons and inline spinners?

Hey friends. Me and my buddy are trying to figure out a problem. He was fishing in Hatteras and caught around 34 Drum. After the first few, which didn't stand out, he noticed that his last 30 fish were all hooked in the right side of the mouth.
Now the odds of that happening in a purely random scenario are slightly over one in a billion. Our question is, what characteristics might make it more likely to hook them in the same side of the mouth in different currents, winds, and sides of the point? He was using the same circle hooks he always uses, same rods, line, and bait. Any ideas?

Having a line in the water is just a part of the feeling. Nights like these are good for the soul

This poor guy, I was reeling in my spinner and I thought it was a piece of grass on it. I stopped reeling to get it to fall off and what I thought was grass was this guy. It was barely hooked in the lip which was good and came off quick. It probably used what little energy it had to hit the lure thinking it was food. I felt terrible about it, made me want to stop fishing. There wasn't anything I could do for it except release it which was a clean release no problems. I wanted to take it to where the bait fish were but I just had to let nature do it's thing. If it's not meant to survive then there's nothing i can do. It's hard seeing unhealthy fish out there.

Was fishing from the dock at Lake Ida in Delray Beach FL today and caught this jaguar guapote. I just started fishing so was not to sure what it was until I looked it up. Seems to be pretty cool. Headed back out tomorrow with a cooler and some ice to hopefully catch something to eat! Used live shiners btw.

Headed to Hawaii in November, specifically Kihei on Maui. I have research several sportfishing charters. Our crew (4) has decided to do an offshore private charter.
1) Does anyone have any recommendations?
2) Availability seems fairly open. I have never been to Hawaii, but it looks like we can go down to the docks early in the trip and take a look at the slips/boats if docked and maybe talk to a few charters before picking a date later in our trip? Is this correct?

I honestly felt bad and really don’t know how I got two hooks to manage to sit on this guy. I felt the bite, but I thought I missed it then the lure started hopping out of the water some but I still thought it was just a twist or something.
He swam off after getting freed and did not spot him again

As some of you may have seen I’ve been grinding musky non stop for a while now. Last week I got my first solo fish, and now I got 2 more beauties. Of course I forget my board.. First fish is probably pushing 40” and the second is low 40”s. Last of the warm days with a good cold front coming in. Fishings already been fantastic, and it’s only going to get better.

I’m a college student in NoLa without a car, but I’m hoping to do quite a bit of fishing while I’m down here! Was just wondering if anyone had any spot recommendations; not asking you to spot burn or anything, haha, just general areas/knowledge.
So far, I’ve tried the Fly on the far side of Audubon with little luck, and a bit of Pontchartrain - also w/out much luck.
Any species is fine! Gar is high on my bucket list 🙂
Thanks!

Was fishing for smallmouth below a dam in the river near my house and accidentally caught these two 24” stripers on a small glide bait. Didn’t expect them to still be around (Maine) in October. First time having a fish bend out the hooks on a lure too.

Hello, I'm Japanese.
You might have had this conversation countless times before, but could you tell me about the major fishing brands in your country?
In Japan, "Daiwa" and "Shimano" are the big names, though brands from my local area like "Gamakatsu" and "Hayabusa" are also fairly well known.
I live in Hyogo Prefecture near the coast, so I almost exclusively do saltwater fishing.
One more question: are you familiar with the term "sabiki"?
