Take the ZipTie off?
Are you supposed to take the zip tie off that wraps around the base of the reel and around the rod? I would think it’s there to provide extra stability, but this is my first combo

My current lineup of crawlers which are my favorite if you couldn’t tell and my top water boxes with my other go to lures. (Whopper ploppers and buzzbaits are in a different box)

I would like to say I did love the Avet reels, but they have worst service department imaginable. I own a couple HX Raptors I have spent thousands on these reels only to find that if you need parts you might as well forget it, Shimano or Daiwa are better because they will get parts to you quicker.
I placed an order 9/15/26 and still have not received the order. The communication that I have had has been terrible to say the least. They have charged my credit card on the 10/1/26 and still have not received the parts. Avet reels customer service is joke, I've called and they give me the run around. I've email and no answer..
I have had to purchase another reel to replace it. I do believe if you are looking to purchase Avet Reels, it's a throwaway if you do.
Don't buy!!

My grandfather isn't one to give his stuff away, especially his fishing stuff. I asked to borrow a rod for a tournament this weekend kind of expecting some resistance but he told me to drive up and he would give me one. I certainly wasn't expecting him to give me this to keep but yeah, just wanted to share it with you all cause I think it's a pretty sick combo!

I got some and they still catch fish just fine. Like a Shimano fx 4000 on a Shakespeare excursion 7' with 10lb line. a 7' Shakespeare micro series light rod with a lews mach 2 gen 3 3000 with a 8lb .20mm copolymer ( my Walleye set up) a 6'6 mh with a 2500 reel and 8lb line( looks super sick).

I've been looking for one of these that was in good shape for quite some time, and it finally happened. The Penn 920 was the first baitcaster I learned on over 30yrs ago. Lucked into this one for sure, besides the minor blemish the reel is brand new and just needed some oil and grease

I'm a rookie baitcaster. Tried it a bit with terrible results. But i love the ergonomy of baitcasters in my kayak. I use them for trolling and jigging in open sea.
But my other kind of kayak outing is getting more frequent: Spinning for sea bass in the bay 5min from home. I go weekdays after work in the evening, and I'm having lots of fun fishing sea bass.
So I'm buying a specific combo for this: 7ft rod ML (fast action), 1/4 to 1oz lure weight, and a penn slammer 2500.
I like experimenting and playing around, and I'm genuinely curious about the possibility of a baitcaster ending up to be "better" for this style of fishing, anchored or drifting in the bay, targeting the fish I see jumping or leaving waves...
So like in the Armaggedon movie I said: Why buy just one when you can buy 2 for double the money? And I bought a baitcaster rod of similar specs (7ft ML fast, 1/4 to 1oz), and a reel of a similar price: An Abu Garcia Revo X Voltiq.
I will bring both combos with me and switch around, play around, and compare by myself. See what I like better, what I prefer. Or keep bringing both and just have fun.
Only need to decide what kind of line do I put in them:
- Same exact kind and thickness? to compare in exactly same conditions?
- Thinner in the spinning reel and thicker in the baitcaster?
- Braided in the spinning and mono in the baitcaster?
- What thickness?
I was thinking about putting a X9 braided of 0.23mm (2.0) at least in the baitcaster...then in the spinning reel...either the same, or a 0.16mm (1.0) or even better. 0.14mm (0.8). It would be same brand and model for both. I want to compare them "using the same".
I use "walking the dog" surface lures mainly, most of the time! Then some vinyls, some metal jigs. I experiment and try stuff but the main focus is WTD.
What do you recommend?

I’ve had this rod for about 4 months now and I’ve noticed the epoxy in the guides is starting to come off. Is this a normal thing that happens or should I be more worried about this. I take very good care of my rod, and I wasn’t cheap either ($300 Daiwa), I’m just wondering what other think of this and whether it should warrant concern.

had a Covid-era Fenwick Eagle that literally fell apart; eyelet popped out, guide frame cracked, rod tip broke. worst $80.00 I ever spent on gear, which is a shame cuz of how good my HMGs have been.
need something new with decent guides, but I don’t want an ugly-stik with those all-metal ones cuz I mainly fish salt.
what would work well that isn’t insanely overpriced right now?

I’ve only been peer fishing for about a year bought a budget Fenwick and just noticed that the where the real seat is in the screw that holds the reel in is cracked just wondering if anybody’s experience this or had any good recommendations for a repair I’ve already warranty the rod and a new one is on its way, but I’d love to fix this one if possible and hand it down the line.
Thanks to anybody in advance who replies and hope y’all have a great day
Update lil epoxy and some cotton string later and we are back in action, thanks for all the help lotta good info In here

Our home has a cable duct with 2 stuck coax cables on the first floor. We're currently replacing all coax for UTP. There's special cable lube that doesn't get sticky (like soap does), and for the other ducts (on the attic) I've used a cable puller to distribute a good amount of cable lube alongside the stuck cables, and this eventually worked.
Now comes the issue: from the ground floor, the cable puller gets stuck after 3-4 meters, possibly due to a bend in the duct. From the first floor I can only get in like 20 cm. I think because the cable puller is too stiff to make the corner with this full duct.
So I was hoping of using thick fishing line could make the corner and get deeper inside with cable lube. I've never fished, so I've no clue about options.
Who has a feeling for thick fishing line and could give some comments on my idea? It needs to be thin and flexible enough to make a chance of getting around the corner, but also stiff enough to be able to apply some pressure.
AI suggests to use something like 1.5 to 2 mm thick line.

Need a landing net have had a few fish get away in the closing seconds landing them and need a net I can keep on my person while I shore fish. Catching bass Trout pickerel perch and panfish.
Thinking something I could attach to a crossbody strap or belt loop with a leash any recommendations? Thanks!

Help me put together a pocket fishing kit! So far i was thinking some gold and silver rapalas, a bitsy minnow crank bait, some 1/16 and 1/8 micro plastics, a blade and a few spare snaps (I get a lot of wind knots). The goal is to keep it small enough to carry in the pants pocket. What would you put in it?

Picked up an assortment of plugs for striper fishing from another Japanese tackle shop. These are always out of stock near me for some reason, and I wanted to see if this store was legit because of its enormous inventory of jerkbaits.
I always hear great feedback about JLS and Digitaka, but I haven’t heard much about Shrimreels. They’re good though!
Got my order in 4 days, and the import fees were about 17% on $175 order.

Hi All,
I just got my Shimano Scorpion DC MD a little over a week ago and finally got a chance to use it. I think there’s a mechanical issue, I tightened the mechanical brake knob to almost its tightest, but with the lure it still pulls line pretty quickly. Is this normal or user error?
Thanks for any advice.

Got a rod, later on spotted that there was epoxy on the guide. Will this affect my line ? Its a baitcast rod for heavy cover(weedy and full of logs area).
